Throughout her recording career especially in the early days, McIlwaine would be plagued by limitations of heavyhanded and shortsighted producers, an exception occuring with the "The Real Ellen McIlwaine" album project produced in Montréal in 1975 -- Zoe
I could flesh that out with detail but it would be based on my own conversations with her and recorded broadcast interviews. I'm not sure what standards Wiki would need for that but I've known the subject for over 40 years. One that particularly stands out was that her producer in the Polydor years turned off the bass amp she usually played with, complaining that it "isn't ladylike". Direct quote.
