Mostrim?

Anybody know when the name Edgeworthstown was put on the town? It is still very commonly known by the locals in English as Mostrim, and indeed the local GAA team is still Mostrim: Mostrim Dunlavin Green (talk) 14:07, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

According to these primary documents on Logainm.ie, the website of the Irish Placenames Commission, the placename Edgeworthstown appears to have replaced the anglicisation Mostrim in the 19th century. "Mostrim", on the other hand, is according to these documents recorded in 1575, 1602, 1704, 1744 and 1834. 86.41.15.114 (talk) 15:52, 21 August 2011 (UTC)

Prints of the MGWR 1920 timetables in the Ernie Shepherd book show the station name as Edgesworthstown. However I remember (hopefully correctly) the name 'Mostrim' being used on the Edgeworthstown railway station in the 1960's. The station was a little outside the town and I suppose that may have had a little to do with it perhaps. Its possible the signal box was always called Edgeworthstown. Interesting if I crosscheck some other records I'll see what comes up (nb low priority).Djm-leighpark (talk) 10:37, 31 May 2020 (UTC)
