Wikipedia:WikiProject Puerto Rico/Notability Criteria

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A topic has notability if it is known outside a narrow interest group or constituency, or should be because of its particular importance or impact. It is an extension of the notion of prominence for biographical articles. It differs, however, from fame and importance; while all articles on "famous" and "important" subjects are notable, not all notable subjects are famous or important.

For example, on November 18, 1997, the Supreme Court of Puerto Rico, through its ruling in Miriam J. Ramirez de Ferrer v. Juan Mari Brás, reaffirmed the standing existence of the Puerto Rican citizenship, and on October 25, 2006, Puerto Rican Socialist Party president Juan Mari Brás became the first person to receive a Puerto Rican citizenship certificate from the Puerto Rico Department of State.[1] Since 2007, the Government of Puerto Rico has been issuing "Certificates of Puerto Rican Citizenship" to anyone born in Puerto Rico or to anyone born outside of Puerto Rico with at least one parent who was born in Puerto Rico.[2][3] The case "Miriam J. Ramirez de Ferrer v. Juan Mari Brás" is notable and it may have its own article. Juan Mari Brás is, likewise, notable (based on this, plus his numerous other "firsts" (see guidelines below) and, thus, he has his own article.
