event sorting[edit]

What is the reasoning behind sorting "FROM EARLIER EVENTS ON TOP TO LATER EVENTS BELOW"? That seems odd and less helpful than having the most recent events defaulted to the top, like the UFC Events page. --Wikisian (talk) 21:31, 21 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Earliest-to-latest is the standard order for chronological lists, per WP:SALORDER. So the real question is why List of UFC events is in reverse order. Toohool (talk) 00:27, 22 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
That does make sense for finite lists. However, with a list like UFC events, which is consistently growing on an almost weekly basis, I think most readers are interested in the most recent events. It seems counterproductive and inconvenient to force them to either scroll farther and farther down an ever-growing list that will never stop getting longer, or have to click to re-sort them manually (which I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of visitors don't realize how to do).
WP:SALORDER explicitly states "Special cases which specifically require frequent daily additions, such as Deaths in 2020, may use reverse chronological order for temporary convenience." Granted, UFC events aren't "daily" additions, but they are frequent enough that it makes sense to have the most recent at the top by default. Not to mention, WP Style Guidelines are just that, guidelines, and WP explicitly states they are not rules, and best treated with common sense, and exceptions will apply. I think SALORDER does make sense as a general guideline, but UFC events would seem to be an obvious exception, and that seems to be the consensus, given the lasting nature of the reverse chronological order on the events page, which is quite popular.
As long as there is a single list that has no defined endpoint (as opposed to e.g. "2019 UFC Events"), I think it makes better sense to have them with the most recent at the top by default. If anyone has counter reasoning, we can keep the discussion going, but I'm not sure if anyone would care much if it was switched to match the main UFC Events page. I was just curious if there was something else because of the all-caps note on the page. --Wikisian (talk) 23:29, 22 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I put the all-caps note in the markup after I saw that the list was already in earlier events first order. This was simply to make communication easier with future editors, and I myself was not sure exactly why it was in earlier events first order, but just maintained the existing format. I agree with the consensus that it should be latest event first and can go ahead and make that change. Hope that clears things up. Kvwiki1234 (talk) 06:01, 20 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Just made the necessary changes. Hope it helps. Cheers. Kvwiki1234 (talk) 02:54, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Is Events section here even necessary?[edit]

The Events section is basically a copy of all the UFC Apex events from the List of UFC events page. There are two ways this list of events can exist:

A finite list: If there's a finite end to when the UFC Apex will be used as a venue, it makes sense to definitively list all events held at the UFC Apex.
A living list: If its a living list that will be a copy of UFC Apex events from the List of UFC events page, should there even be an Events section on this page? It requires constant updating alongside the main List of UFC events page and can often be found out of date. I also agree that IF we maintain it as a living list, then it should be ordered with most recent event at the top to mirror List of UFC Events page.

Currently I vote that the Events section shouldn't even exist and just have a hatnote see also to List of UFC events. What's the concensus?
