History[edit]

Does anyone know the history of Inductive Automation as a company and how it was founded? Who the founders are? Size of company? Pcvjamaica (talk) 23:03, 11 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Article Updates[edit]

Hello I want to introduce myself to editors who watch this page. I am an employee of the company Inductive Automation, and have some factual corrections and adjustments I would like to recommend making to the page. I won't make direct edits to the page but instead will propose edits here for review and to request the article is updated, if my requests look ok.

My first request has to do with the awards section. I would like to suggest changing "Inductive Automation received the 2011 Automation World Readers Choice Awards in the SCADA and Information management categories for Ignition and in the SCADA category in 2013 and 2015." to "Inductive Automation received the Automation World Leadership in Automation Awards for Ignition in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016, in SCADA and other categories." I have a new citation for that (in addition to keeping the current citation): https://www.automationworld.com/industry-news/2016-leadership-automation-first-team-honorees

I also would like to suggest adding a new sentence and citation (after the sentence about CSIA): "In 2016, Gartner named Inductive Automation as a Cool Vendor in Managing Operational Technology in a Digital Business." Citation: https://www.gartner.com/doc/3291732/cool-vendors-managing-operational-technology

I have more recommended edits but will leave it at this for now, as I would like to just get more familiar with this process. I appreciate any feedback or corrections on how this process should work. Hi Eric Greene, and thank you for your suggestions. However, their intent seems to be promotional. For instance, what is the significance of the "Automation World Readers Choice Awards"? There are so many categories that a company can win in, and so many winners in each category, that the more interesting question is how many companies are nominated for this award that don't win. The 2016 page you pointed to lists 191 award citations for 75 unique firms. Further investigation turned up a SurveyGizmo voting page that anybody could access. I'm removing the mention of this award from this Wikipedia article until there's more information about how winners are chosen. Altamel (talk) 18:30, 8 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Request edit on 7 January 2020[edit]

Greetings! My name is Arnell J. Ignacio and I am an employee of Inductive Automation. On behalf of my organization, I would like to suggest two factual edits to the Inductive Automation wikipedia page. Please let me know if I am not adhering to proper protocol in regards to these matters.

Suggested edit #1:
Under Ignition Platform, replace "Ignition is an Integrated Software Platform for SCADA systems. It achieves cross platform web based deployment through the Java Web Start Technology for both runtime clients and the integrated development environment.” with “Ignition is an Integrated Software Platform for SCADA systems. It achieves cross platform web based deployment for both runtime clients and the integrated development environment using custom launchers based on Java.”

Reason:
Oracle has removed Java Web Start in future versions of Java. To accommodate the change, a new method was created to launch Ignition clients and the development environment.

This blog post that explains the changes happening with Java and prompting us to make these changes. https://inductiveautomation.com/blog/the-real-deal-about-java-and-the-future-of-ignition

This blog post explains when the change has taken effect with the Ignition platform. https://inductiveautomation.com/blog/ignition-v7910-new-client-launchers-and-upgrade-logic

Lastly here is our documentation speaking to transition from Java Web Start to Native Client Launchers https://docs.inductiveautomation.com/display/DOC79/Native+Client+Launchers

Suggested Edit #2:
Under Inductive University, please replace the last sentence "New courses for Ignition v7.8 were added in September 2015." with "New courses for Ignition v8.0 were added in April 2019."

Reason:
This blog post discusses our update to our Inductive University platform with new course content for Ignition 8. https://inductiveautomation.com/blog/2-million-views-upgrades-keep-iu-in-a-class-by-itself

Thank you for your consideration of these suggested edits.

Reply 28-JAN-2020[edit]

  Clarification requested

  1. If the period of time where the Java Web Start technology was previously used were significant, then the altered language describing the newer IA technology should make reference to the older being used for whichever period of time it was used, whereupon the description should then state that a subsequent format was later instituted.
  2. The Inductive University section was omitted for being based on WP:PROMOTION, thus the requested edits to that section could not be carried out.
  • When ready to proceed with the re-formulated proposed sentence mentioned in point 1 above, kindly change the {{request edit}} template's answer parameter to read from |ans=yes to |ans=no. Thank you!

Reply to Clarification 03-FEB-2020[edit]

Here is the proposed re-formulated sentence to point 1:
"Ignition is an Integrated Software Platform for SCADA systems. Since its introduction in 2010, the Ignition platform used Java Web Start to enable cross-platform web-based deployment for run time clients. In 2018, Oracle released a statement that future versions of Java will no longer support Java Web Start. To achieve the same cross-platform web-based deployment for runtime clients in Ignition, Inductive Automation introduced custom Java-based launchers in April of 2019."

Again, Thank you for your consideration.

Here is the proposed update with references. Please let me know if this is acceptable:

Ignition is an Integrated Software Platform for SCADA systems used to achieve cross-platform web-based deployment through the Java Web Start Technology for both runtime clients and the integrated development environment. In 2018, Oracle released a statement that future versions of Java will no longer support Java Web Start.[1] To achieve the same cross-platform web-based deployment for runtime clients in Ignition, Inductive Automation introduced custom Java-based launchers in November of 2018.[2]"

Proposed merge of FactoryPMI into Inductive Automation[edit]

ditto this one, but different target (or merge to Ignition SCADA) Widefox; talk 19:53, 27 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Support the alternative proposal, as FactoryPMI has been renamed to Ignition Vision Module; hence, a merge to Ignition SCADA, merging a software module to its software platform, seem a better idea than merging directly to the company page. Klbrain (talk) 14:06, 4 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
