In-betweener animator

Is there a job description of '"In-Betweener" animator'? There doesn't seem to be an article on it (that I can find) if it is a recognized job title.

In-betweeners/other terms

Belatedly, but to answer the above, inbetweener is indeed an indutsry term. It's not usually used as "inbetweener animator," though. It's a type of animator, in a way, one unique to hand-drawn animation. Basically it's the person who does the "in-between" drawings to fill in the action, with the full animator (or key animator) doing the extremes. For independent short films or features, often a single animator or animators will also do their own inbeteweens. Other common terms are "assistant animator" or "clean-up animator" (one who "cleans" rough pencil art, smoothing and refining the line and occasionally adding details), "rough" inbetweener (does the rough drawings as opposed to a clean-up inbetweener), break down artists/animators (like in-betweener,s in a way, but they more narrowly "break down" the artist), and even in these areas, there's "key" animators/clean-up artists, assistants, supervisors, etc. I'm thinking all of these should be included here, rather than in individual articles, for the time being anyway (while other animation artists which are not actual animators, storyboard, layout artists, character designers, etc. should either remain or be created in new categories). A greater distinction of the types of animation and the difference between the animator's role depending on medium (a hand-drawn animator draws the action, stop-motion animators tweak and manipulate the figures frame by frame by hand or with small tools, computer animators manipulate the created CG models, etc. I'll try to work on this when I have time (and also some history of the ways in which animators are credited, or not, might be appropriate). Anyone else have any thoughts or comments on this? Since really, this is a vast area, and though certainly far more is needed than this stub has right now, it's hard to know how far to go. Article Purpose?

Just wondering... what's the purpose of this article? Why can't people just go to the Animation page? EChronicle 00:43, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

Because "Animation" is about a product, and "animator" is about the person doing the animation, perhaps? Seems to me they are two different subjects.--nihon 18:42, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
This is supposed to be an encyclopedia, not a dictionary. Yes, "an animator is about the person doing the animation". But there are all kinds of animators - how can you write an article on one and call it animator? That would be like trying to write a "super-biography" of all the animators that ever lived. Yes, and this article will be expanded to cover the various types of animators. It's nothing like the example you give. --nihon 20:27, 19 February 2006 (UTC)
I agree with EChronicle. This article presents no information. It links to character animators (which redirects to Character animation) and special effects animator (which redirects to Special effects animation). I recommend redirecting Animator to Animation - and I can't see any good reason not to.--Commander Keane 15:12, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
Give me a few days and I'll make a regular article out of it, detailing the various types of animator. Then I'll change the redirects accordingly. --nihon 19:19, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

As long as you don't modfiy the pages Character animation and Special effects animation that will be fine. I forsee all these articles about people being redirected.--Commander Keane 19:40, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

I haven't had the time to do it yet. I'm finishing up a few other projects, as well as moving in the real world, and doing projects for school. Patience. (^_^) --日本穣 06:14, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

I agree, this article is redundant. 71.237.182.93 20:30, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
