A belated welcome![edit]

Sorry for the belated welcome, but the cookies are still warm!

Here's wishing you a belated welcome to Wikipedia, Wipkipkedia. I see that you've already been around a while and wanted to thank you for your contributions. Though you seem to have been successful in finding your way around, you may benefit from following some of the links below, which help editors get the most out of Wikipedia:

Also, when you post on talk pages you should sign your name using four tildes (~~~~); that should automatically produce your username and the date after your post.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page, consult Wikipedia:Questions, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and ask your question there.

Again, welcome! Redalert2fan (talk) 18:22, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Acroterion (talk) 13:06, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Notability[edit]

I see that you have had some run-ins with the notability squadron here. Generally, school stuff doesn't stand a chance of surviving here. School elections don't even stand a chance, so creation should be avoided. I see you are still interested in editing here after the two AFDs, so I am willing to help you should you need it. Hello, Wipkipkedia. You have new messages at Department of Redundancy Department's talk page.

The article Lee Vandervis has been proposed for deletion because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners or ask at Wikipedia:Help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Nat Gertler (talk) 04:17, 12 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Joynt scroll requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content. You may wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Adabow (talk · contribs) 09:44, 15 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your comment on my talk page. While I am always open to guidance, I have been an admin here for several years and am reasonably familiar with basic policies, including the one you indicate. You have had a number of articles deleted as being non-notable, and there has been comment elating to this here on your talk page. May I suggest you re-read our policy on notability? You may also consider creating articles in your {{sandbox}}, or in a subpage, and posting them in article-space only when you are satisfied that they are complete. Or you even ask for peer review before posting, if you so wished. --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 11:08, 26 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Aaron Hawkins for deletion[edit]

A discussion has begun about whether the article Aaron Hawkins, which you created or to which you contributed, should be deleted. While contributions are welcome, an article may be deleted if it is inconsistent with Wikipedia policies and guidelines for inclusion, explained in the deletion policy.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Aaron Hawkins until a consensus is reached, and you are welcome to contribute to the discussion.

You may edit the article during the discussion, including to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Catfish Jim & the soapdish 14:34, 9 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File copyright problem with File:Auckland Central.png[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Auckland Central.png. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 12:48, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Flightfox requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Upgraded the article, added more information, links, project links (in talk), and categories. Should be safe now. NealeFamily (talk) 23:47, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Logan Edgar for deletion[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Logan Edgar is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Logan Edgar until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Shirt58 (talk) 01:59, 27 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Wipkipkedia - looking at the AfD for Logan and what is in the local media about him at this stage he doesn't quite make it. I would suggest you park a copy of the article in your sandpit on your user page for future reference and resubmit it when he gets to be notable. The threshold is high and to clear it he will need either national or international award and/or coverage in major national or international media outside of just Dunedin. Your other AfD'd article on Lee looks likely to survive. I have edited it and another NZ wikipedian has added some data. Hope this helps. NealeFamily (talk) 06:01, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Deletions[edit]

Hi Wipkipkedia - I see you are getting hammered with deletions. The most recent being Ryman Healthcare. From what I observe, you seem to be inserting new articles directly into Wiki without them being developed to a reasonable level. Ryman Healthcare is little more than a title which, as a reference in an encyclopedia, is unhelpful. There are at least two ways to approach article creation in Wiki that you do not seem to be using. One, which I would recommend to you is to develop the article in your sandbox. This allows you to create the article without interference from others. You can seek collaborative input/comment from other Wikipedians with similar interests - see the various project groups such as WP: New Zealand. Hope this helps. NealeFamily (talk) 08:23, 19 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • I echo that. An article consisting simply of "Ryman Healthcare is a New Zealand rest home operator" is pure suicide. Your sandbox is User:Wipkipkedia/sandbox or any page with a title starting User:Wipkipkedia/. Do not even think of moving an article into mainspace until it contains links to significant coverage in reliable, independent secondary sources. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 11:44, 19 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi Wikipkedia - you asked: 1. are you in Wiki Project New Zealand?. Yes along with a couple of others 2.In terms of your message, does "no article is better than a blank/bad one" usually happen? Yes, because there are rules under which we collectively operate - take a read of WP:NOT and WP:Notability to get some idea of the background thinking. Also, for citing sources see WP:RS which outlines what are considered to be reliable sources. The rules have been developed collaboratively by members over a period of time and are always under debate and review. Take a look at the associated Talk pages. 3. What quality would you recommend before passing a deletion threshold and Would stubs get deleted? The key one, which you alluded to in your defence of the Ryman article is generally notability so long as the article is backed by reliable sources. You also need to write in a neutral tone, remembering that we merely provide information to the reader rather than pass judgement on it (a bit easier said than done as we all have opinions on various subjects). Avoid cut and pastes - you can use them in your sandpit as a start point, but you'll need to rewrite the content to avoid copyright/plagerism issues. One of the advantages of sandpiting an article is you can ask other editors to review or edit it before you submit it. There are two ways you can do this - one is approaching an editor directly on their talk page or alternatively putting a note on the related project talk page asking for review. Most of us are happy to help with suggestions and guidance. NealeFamily (talk) 19:10, 19 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Wipkipkedia. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Christopher Bishop (politician), for deletion because it's a biography of a living person that lacks references. If you don't want Christopher Bishop (politician) to be deleted, please add a reference to the article.

If you don't understand this message, you can leave a note on my talk page.

Thanks, Vanjagenije (talk) 20:40, 22 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The article Christopher Bishop (politician) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:POLITICIAN as he is only a candidate

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. New Challenge for Oceania and Australia[edit]

Hi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Oceania/The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia/The 5000 Challenge are up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. The Australia challenge would feed into the wider region one and potentially New Zealand could have a smaller challenge too. The main goal is content improvement, tackling stale old stubs and important content and improving sourcing/making more consistent but new articles are also welcome if sourced. I understand that this is a big goal for regular editors, especially being summertime where you are, but if you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Oceania and Australia like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1700 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for the region but fuelled by a series of contests to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. The Africa contest scaled worldwide would naturally provide great benefits to Oceania countries, particularly Australia and attract new editors. I would like some support from existing editors here to get the Challenges off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile and potentially bring about hundreds of improvements in a few weeks through a contest! Cheers.♦ --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 02:12, 24 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Flightfox, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. WikiProject Investment[edit]

Hey there! I just re-launched the WikiProject Investment.

The site has been fully revamped and updated and I would like to invite you the project.

Feel free to check out the project and ping me if you have any questions.

I'd like to invite you to join the Investment WikiProject. There are a lot of Investment related articles on Wikipedia that could use a little attention, and I hope this project can help organize an effort to improve them. So please, take a look and if you like what you see, help get this project off the ground and a few Investment pages into the front ranks of Wikipedia articles. Thanks!

Invitation to an in-person meetup in Mohua / Golden Bay[edit]

Golden Bay Air are holding some seats for us until 21 November

Thinking about your summer break? Think about joining other Wikipedians and Wikimedians in Golden Bay / Mohua! Details are on the meetup page. There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.

Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, so we are holding some seats from and to Wellington and we are offering attendees a $200 travel subsidy to help with costs.

Be in touch with Schwede66 if this event interests you and you'd like to discuss logistics. Schwede66 09:14, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
