Links to draft articles[edit]

Information icon Please do not introduce links in actual articles to draft articles, as you did to Pumpherston Juniors F.C.. Since a draft is not yet ready for the main article space, it is not in shape for ordinary readers, and links from articles should not go to a draft. Such links are contrary to the Manual of Style. June 2022[edit]

Hi there - Wikipedia relies on reliable sources to verify information, especially about living people. You didn't provide a source for your changes to the Joe Mbu (footballer) article, and I couldn't find one either. If you have a reliable source please let me know and we can change the article. Please let me know if you have any questions. GiantSnowman 17:41, 29 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, ScottishFootballObseasive

Thank you for creating Kevin Magee (Scottish footballer).

Formatting references and avoiding mirrors[edit]

Hi ScottishFootballObseasive, when you create an article or add references to an existing article, please make sure that the references are not just a link with a title. The reader should be able to tell what the source is (a news provider, or a book, or a journal, or an encyclopedia, or something else), who the author is (if there is a named author), when the source was published (not always relevant, but a newspaper article, for instance, will have a publishing date which is important info). WP:CITEHOW has more information about this.

Another thing to be aware of: please make sure that sources you cite are not Wikipedia mirrors. Enacademic, which you have used as a source a couple of times recently, is a website that copies Wikipedia articles, and we can't use such websites as sources. If you look at https://en-academic.com/dic.nsf/enwiki/1551752 , it says "Wikipedia" at the top and "Wikimedia Foundation. 2010" at the bottom. Regards, --bonadea contributions talk 20:43, 4 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I went through the references in Stephen Raynes, and found that several of them did not in fact verify any of the information – those have been removed from the article. For instance, this source was placed after the sentences "Raynes started his career at Hibernian but struggled make an impact on the first team. He left Easter Road in 1993 having made just 3 first team appearances." The source mentions Raynes scoring a goal for Hibernian in a match in 1991 – it doesn't say anything about it being his first team, about him "struggling to make an impact" (on the contrary, since he scored!), about him leaving in 1993 (well, it couldn't mention that, the article was published in '91), or about how many games he appeared in. That's just one of the references in the article, and unfortunately the same thing applied to the rest of them as well. A couple of refs verified some of the info, so those were kept but moved to the information they actually support. (The ones that didn't meet WP:RS were removed, they shouldn't be used at all.) --bonadea contributions talk 13:38, 5 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, one final thing about that article: please take a few minutes to look at how the remaining references in Stephen Raynes are formatted. That's the minimum of information that's required. It would be great if you could go through Craig Feroz, Sean Clark (footballer, born 1980), Jim Sherry, Neil Bennett (footballer, born 1971), and all other articles you have created to make sure each reference includes at least that info and, of course, that they verify the info. Again, have a look at WP:CITEHOW. Thanks! --bonadea contributions talk 13:43, 5 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on East Calder C.F.C. requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://www.pitchero.com/clubs/eastcalderfc/a/history-43684.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. ScottishFootballObseasive (talk) 13:48, 8 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The two from his old club and one from his new club. These are not "independent", and don't give notability. Please read WP:BASIC. You seem to make this error quite often, leading to many of your articles getting deleted: it would save yourself and others a lot of time if you could restrict your article creations to clearly notable subjects. Fram (talk) 14:04, 8 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate that, but I notice some articles with no sources which have not been proposed for deletion, so it's difficult to know what the standard is. Perhaps it depends on the reviewer. But I will be more mindful of your advice when creating articles in the future. Many thanks.
ScottishFootballObseasive (talk) 10:15, 10 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Jayson Alexander moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Jayson Alexander, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) WP:NFOOTY is no longer a valid SNG, so GNG must be met. It needs several refs from independent, reliable, secondary sources to pass WP:GNG. It should have at least 3 of those. Please remember that routine sports coverage does not satisfy GNG, and that interviews, being primary sources, do not go to notability either. Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Too late now. I had draftified it, but you returned it to mainspace without significant improvement, so now it's at AfD. Onel5969 TT me 15:44, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, ScottishFootballObseasive,
If you would like to work on this article in Draft space, then please go to the AFD discussion and request this happen. It more than likely will be draftified. But you have to go and participate in the deletion discussion and communicate with other editors, tell them what you want. Otherwise, this article could just be deleted. I encourage you to go to the AFD and ask for "Draftify" or "Move to User space". Good luck. Liz Read! Talk! 20:24, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have sent you a note about a page you started[edit]

Hello, ScottishFootballObseasive. Thank you for your work on Derek Grant (footballer). North8000, while examining this page as a part of our page curation process, had the following comments:

Good start. IMO and edge-case regarding wp:notability but I'm marking it as reviewed. Suggest finding a couple sources which cover him in depth and developing and citing more article material from those sources. Happy editing!

To reply, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|North8000}}. Please remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. (Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.)
