North America, USA, USA1, etc[edit]

This article is one place, maybe the best, we might give reasonably full account of team designations "North America" and "USA" (prior to USBF) and of USA, USA1 and USA2.

For what it's worth:

  • At Bermuda Bowl we call the ACBL teams "North America" from 1959 to 1979 inclusive; or "Aces" (1971, 1973) and "Defenders" (1977) when they played as defending champions. Such consistent use of "North America", and "USA" from 1950 to 1958, may follow a source such as OEB or may follow previous editorial judgment (in turn, maybe mine). --At Venice Cup, "North America" does not appear.
  • WBF online uses "North America" in its list of winners for 1976 to 1979 only, and differs from us for 1970 only (as North America teams didn't otherwise win 1959-1979). Its annual Results & Participants lists (select the "Venues"; 1950s to 1970s only) differ from us for 1959 and 1970. --For the Venice Cup, "North America" does not appear.
