"Single source"[edit]

I am removing the "single source" warning flag. The United States Census Bureau should be considered as reliable a source as there is for the content of this page. --Thnidu (talk) 17:10, 28 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Afghans are South Asian.[edit]

Afghanistan is geographically located mostly in South Asia, while a tiny bit in Central Asia. I wouldn’t consider Afghanistan a Central Asian country just like I wouldn’t consider Egypt a West Asian country or Turkey being a European country. Phenotypically, Afghans look South Asian (they do not look like their Central Asian counterparts, and plus majority of Afghanistan is in South Asia as is the population). And phenotypically Bhutanese people look more East/Southeast Asian than any other South Asian country. There’s so much hypocrisy here but it’s probably based on Islamophobia, the West’s criticism of the Middle East when Afghanistan is South Asian not West Asian, and inaccurate opinions. Geography is more important than geopoliticism guys!! Gatorbearratica (talk) 05:11, 24 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Legally, Afghans are considered White and not South Asian. Also, your claim that Afghans look south Asian is without a credible source, so please keep banter to yourself, and rely on reputable sources as that’s how WP functions. Your claim that Afghanistan lies mostly in South Asia, which this article uses synonymously with the Indian subcontinent is not supported by WP:RS. Afghanistan as a whole is not a part of the Indian subcontinent nor are they of a “desi” ethnicity. 69.109.242.61 (talk) 01:01, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

South Asians are Asian[edit]

Disagree with the premise that Indians do not consider themselves Asian. According to this finding from Pew Research, 91% of Indian adults consider South Asians to be part of the broader Asian ethnic category:

In addition, according to this article, the majority of Indians and Pakistanis consider themselves Asian:

People from Afghanistan are not considered South Asian ethnically in the USA[edit]

This article is about people who are from the Indian subcontinent; Afghans are not from the subcontinent nor are Afghans considered a South Asian ethnicity legally or generally defined in academia. Please refrain from disruptive edits, and discuss here if you disagree to find a consensus. The latest edits clearly cite how Afghans are legally considered White in the US. 69.109.242.61 (talk) 11:55, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

On this same talkpage you can find people who obviously disagree with that ThatBritishAsianDude (talk) 13:43, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@ThatBritishAsianDude, please stop reverting my edits. You claimed that I cherry picked a qoute and that the source would consider Indians white as well -- no, that's not true. The source explicitly states Indians are not white and that Afghans are similar to Persians and classified white like them. We are not here for our opinions but what reputable sources say. A legal case study is a reputable source, please stop deleting it and mis-representing what it says. Also, the user who disagreed is a banned sock puppet and we don't drive consensus based on opinion, but reputable sources.
@Doug Weller, I see you do a lot of good faith edits regarding Afghanistan and the Greater Iranian world, could you please help me back up with this issue. The editor above mis-represents the sources and deletes sources that disagree with his view point. 69.109.242.61 (talk) 13:44, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Pinging @Kansas Bear as well who also has done a lot good faith edits on these topics. I appreciate your help in driving a consensus. The user wants to portray Afghanistan as south asian by mis-representing what reputable sources say and adding sources that are opinion pieces that do not fall under WP:RS. 69.109.242.61 (talk) 14:06, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@69.109.242.61 you keep saying go to talkpage but then say WP:NPA like that ThatBritishAsianDude (talk) 14:22, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
How am I WP:NPA, I am not attacking you personally at all, I am saying you are mis-representing what the sources say. Again, you revert my edits with reputable sources. Please stop doing that until other editors bring in input. 69.109.242.61 (talk) 14:25, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I can say the same present your changes to them if they agree you edit the page for now you don't have any consensus ThatBritishAsianDude (talk) 14:26, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Your source was an opinion piece by a random Afghan woman in the USA, she is not an expert regarding the Afghan ethnicity just like how any standard American wouldn't be considered an expert nor their writing a WP:RS on American history without advanced degrees in American history. My version go in line with what reputable sources say, unlike your edits. 69.109.242.61 (talk) 14:33, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Again if you are so sure about your source wait and seek consensus, please refrain from making more disruptive edits. ThatBritishAsianDude (talk) 14:39, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
