Acronym for "New York Cash Exchange". When the network originated it was intended to be a shared network in the New York area; as it grew geographically the acronym continued to be used, but without explanation of the original meaning.VentnorNJ (talk) 18:21, 19 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
