"Drafted" or "draughted"[edit]

"The Act was drafted by Sir Mackenzie Dalzell Chalmers.."

The Chambers Dictionary (9th ed) defines DRAFT as ; vt (transitive verb) to draw up in preliminary form". It adds: "DRAUGHT" (noun) a preliminary sketch or plan (usually DRAFT); (vt) to sketch out or make a make a preliminary plan (also DRAFT)".

So either spelling is acceptable, but it seems DRAFT is the simpler, better and more common version, even if Old English etymology has "DRAHT, to draw". Arrivisto (talk) 08:53, 23 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
