Origin of the name[edit]

Although I have found citations claiming Emerald is named after the emeralds and other gemstones found in the area, it is a somewhat problematic claim as I cannot find a source saying emeralds were actually found in the area. There are nearby towns called Sapphire, Rubyvale, and it may be that Emerald was named thematically rather than on the basis of emerald finds. The surrounding area does yield a lot of sapphires and garnet (which might be mistaken for ruby?) but I cannot find any citations for finding emeralds in the area. If anyone can prove or disprove the finding of emeralds near Emerald, please add your citation. Kerry (talk) 06:54, 27 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
