MERGE PROPOSAL[edit]

I m proposing this article be merged into chef as the professional aspect has overlap with the term chef which already clearly designates the cook profession in its article as well. The mere notion that the terms are over-overlapping also leads to my conclusion for a merge. I will be working on a cook (domestic) article to differentiate this from the profession as well.--Christopher Tanner, CCC 17:54, 20 April 2007 (UTC)tanner-christopher Cook is not only a profession but also an art by which one's can express his/her mind reflection to foods. โ€”Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.169.41.15 (talk) 07:03, 12 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Entirely in agreement with C. Tanner about the merge. I think that the Domestic Cook article is a superb idea (though it may be difficult to write up in an "encyclopedic" style, plus it could end up merging with categories relating to traditional cuisines). --NinetyNineFennelSeeds (talk) 16:02, 2 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I would not wish the two merged. I found it a joy to see the cook recognized on it's own. We all think very much of the chef role in our society today, this discounts the role of the person who actually interprets the chef's vision though. I would put forward that the cook is the real artist and not the chef. The chef's that i recognize as being great are incredible cooks. Many chefs do things like paperwork and organization and concentrate most of their day on team building, politics, and image creation. And the things that make it possible to feed thousands of people like on a cruise ship. Don't dilute the role and stature or the cook. Andrewmoore72 (talk) 04:42, 20 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I am planning on making edits to this page to expand on the background of cooks, the differences between cooks and chefs, their job aspects (such as their salary and their educational requirements), the history of cooks, and the gender differences found between men and women who are professional cooks. If anyone has any valuable input on how else I could expand this article in a better way, please reply and let me know. Any help, critiques, questions, or notes would be helpful. Cook as 'professional' not 'profession'[edit]

This articleโ€™s lede and corpus primarily describe a cook as a professional individual, not cooking as a culinary profession. Accordingly, the title should be Cook (professional), not Cook (profession), to accord with the manner that the Chef article is defined as a professional cook (i.e., an 'individual'). Another problem: on the Cook disambiguation page, 'Cook (profession)' is described per this article but the link redirects to Chef rather than redirecting here. Someone who knows how (or cares) to (1) start the procedure for changing this article's title and (2) edit the the Cook disambiguation page's link from Cook (profession) to Cook (professional) should have at it.
