Dispute

Discussion closed. Simon (talk) 13:16, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
The following discussion has been closed. Please do not modify it.

Despite the large amount of editing I've done to this article, I've had no choice but to protect it; fortunately, I am a neutral party in this dispute and have no opinion one way or another, other than the fact I don't want to see anyone blocked. DeadSend4 and Petergriffin9901, please discuss your edits here rather than through edit summaries while reverting one another. Acalamari 08:14, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

How about you do me a favor and instead of blocking me from editing, see why you're blocking it in the first place. Do I ever constantly revert edits for no reason? No. You being someone who also edits this page on a weekly basis didn't even catch the Mariah source not even being from a legit news source. I just happened to find it because this lunatic Mariah can is insisting we have to add a picture. DeadSend4 (talk) 08:17, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
Secondly, why is it ok to expand the article's size since for the past year I've been attacked for trying to "enlarge it" and I myself made edits to cut back. But now that a picture (which adds a large amount to the article) is being added it's now ok? I wish I could cuss on here. DeadSend4 (talk) 08:19, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for getting involved Acalamari. I have attempted to discuss the issue with said editor. They refused to entertain the thought of discussion and simply ignored/removed my messages. This editor has done nothing but display intense fandom, bitterness towards other artists (going as far to throw insults at me and the artist). Additionally, he was reverted by myself and another editor (still refusing to stop taking ownership of the article). They continuously removes sourced and obviously true content. Examples of obvious misconduct: pathetic whiny editors, bitter Mariah Carey fan, likely angry because their idol is tumbling down the charts?. Examples of ownership and frankly, not giving a shit about anyone elses opinion.--PeterGriffinTalk2Me 08:23, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
Where is this sourced material? I copy and pasted it for you to click on it. DeadSend4 (talk) 08:26, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
Is it worth adding a third picture when other articles and their influences have mostly 1 or 2 but we are blocking editors over one picture? Yet I was attacked because the article was getting too big months ago but it's ok now? DeadSend4 (talk) 08:28, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
My cousin, who has cerebral palsy, can do this so I hope you can too. Here is the link which you claim is sourced (which is sad if you think so) Read this link: [1] (you hover your cursor and click the link - I hope most of you can do this since this is the only way I can actually show you how to click a link and see it goes to nowhere and mentions nothing). If my cousin can do it so can you! I believe in you! DeadSend4 (talk) 08:30, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
Maybe the very clear and in depth analysis on Aguilera's childhood and influences growing up in her biography? (I cannot speak for that link that I cannot read and did not post) Of course, that is garbage to you because it cites Carey as a main source. For the sake of discussion, I'm pasting one of the messages I posted on said editors talk page in an answer to their OR: "I'm not going to have an argument over your personal biased opinion on Carey's influence on Christina. You removed the photo simply because you don't like it, even though all early sources and biographies state the truth, that Carey is one of her most important vocal influences, if not the biggest. Obviously over the years, she has tried in ways to denounce that (it's still very clear and documented). Since you are using OR, so will I for the sake of discussion. Christina at a very young age emulating Carey and performing "Vision of Love" (as the sources state), Christina babbling like a fan girl over "her idol, Ms. Mariah Carey" and once again fanning about how big of an influence Mariah was on her and her idol. Ill leave it at that and let her do the talking."--PeterGriffinTalk2Me 08:33, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
I see said editors difficult approach and hurling of insults at myself and Acalamari continue.--PeterGriffinTalk2Me 08:34, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
I protected the page, DeadSend4, because there was no obvious sign that the content dispute was slowing down (it had suddenly heated up after slow reverts over a few days) and you were both at risk of being blocked; reverting one another through edit summaries is not going to end a dispute. A far more strict admin than me would not only have protected the page, but blocked you both as well; in fact, some of your comments here and in the summaries have been needlessly hostile and might even have earned you a longer block than what Petergriffin9901 might have received (and if you continue said comments, as you appear to be doing, another admin might block you, anyway). As I said, I have no opinion on the content and neither support nor oppose either side in the dispute, and I reject any implication that I was locking any specific editor out. Acalamari 08:35, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
So you're admitting you're not going to bother to read my complaints and reasons for reverting the page? So basically, "there's a lot of reverts but I'm not going to read anyone's sides or realize that the sources aren't even legit but just block it", that doesn't sound like an intelligent or rational decision. If you think I'm insulting you, think about how much it feels to be insulted when someone can't even read what you're trying to explain to them. If you're not going to bother to read my complaints then I'll wait for a higher admin who will (hopefully) actually read. DeadSend4 (talk) 08:40, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
THIS IS IN CAPS AND BOLD AND SHOULD CAPTURE YOUR ATTENTION/CLICK ON THIS LINK AND SEE THAT IT LEADS TO NO REPUTABLE SOURCE AND MENTIONS NOTHING [2] (you hover your cursor and click the link - I hope most of you can do this since this is the only way I can actually show you how to click a link and see it goes to nowhere and mentions nothing) DeadSend4 (talk) 08:42, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
I did not say any of what you somehow inferred from my comment. It's not a matter of "not bothering" to read what you had to say: in cases of content disputes such as this one ("lots of reverts"), it's standard procedure to protect the page so that editors can work things out on the talk; as I said above, admins who are far more strict than me would have blocked you both and I doubt that either of you would have preferred that. You both crossed WP:3RR. The objective of the protection was to encourage a talk page discussion, which has been achieved. Acalamari 08:56, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

PS. The source "Dominguez, Pier (2003). Christina Aguilera: a star is made : the unauthorized biography. Amber Books Publishing. p. 134. ISBN 0-9702224-5-9.". A similar biography from another author can read online here. Excerpts include: "Mariah Carey's first album had been released, and that was nothing short of a revelation", "To Christina, who idolized Mariah since she was eleven", dueting with Carey would be "a dream come true for her". It's all ridiculously clear and documented.--PeterGriffinTalk2Me 08:46, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

PS. This source has been largely disputed on here and isn't considered a reputable source due to the "quotes" this 19 year old journalist writes in this UNAUTHORIZED biography. This still doesn't justify HAVING TO ADD A PICTURE OF MARIAH AND THEREFORE EXPAND THE ARTICLE FOR NO NOTABLE/JUSTIFIED REASON DeadSend4 (talk) 08:52, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
I have provided 2 different biographies stating the obvious (there are several others available). All we've received from you are insults, poor faith/character, bold and capped-fanatic writing/bashing and original research. Not only did you remove Carey's photo (which very much belongs and another editor already reverted your removal of it) you removed any inkling or mention of Carey or her influence altogether (citing it as 'because you decided to be nice and leave sourced information'? Laughable). Not a very credible approach mate.--PeterGriffinTalk2Me 08:55, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
Where are these "other sources available" that are not on YouTube, your "bio source" like I mentioned has been disputed on here. I left it alone but you kept going on because you wanted to add a picture to an already large article DeadSend4 (talk) 08:58, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
"If you feel that I have reverted an edit or issued a warning in error, please click here and let me know. I am human, and I do make mistakes" is that sarcasm? Smells like BS. DeadSend4 (talk) 09:09, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

This person, Mariah Carey editor/stan, most of their edits are based on this singer. So now they come here and wants to add a picture because they think since they are huge fan of hers - she should be mentioned in the article. Two pictures is enough, stop trying to bring this trash/mess in here. The article was fine until you came along straggling from probably being bored from Mariah not having much going on and thought you would promote her. DeadSend4 (talk) 09:15, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

I contributed to the Mariah page, glad I can help! :) DeadSend4 (talk) 09:21, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

This fancrufty edit-war is so annoying. How come you guys get this page blocked due to only "a" picture? I can't really see why we should include Mariah's picture here. She IS already described as one of Xtina's major influences with prose, so what else? And sorry to say, the fact that this is coming from WP:MARIAH biggest member, makes this edit-warring far from neutral. Bluesatellite (talk) 09:36, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

Thank you Bluesatellite! Finally a sane person who can read! I agree, I don't mind the mention of Mariah, as long as the sources are good, trust me I helped create the influence page and have seen her name there. But all this because of ONE picture from a crazed fan who wants their idol on this article when we already have two in this already large article? Again, thank you. DeadSend4 (talk) 09:39, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
@Bluesatellite: But the point is DeadSend4 remove source for Carey's influence (spot the difference) Simon (talk) 09:41, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
There is no fancruft or anything un-neutral in quoting sourced material. My edits and musical preferences have nothing to do with anything. Of course you don't, you are the sockpuppet Baratayuda who's sole mission on wikipedia was to derail Carey articles and discredit her in any way possible (as a Madonna fan). Need I remind you of your incredibly biased and un-neutral stance/approach?--PeterGriffinTalk2Me 09:42, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
How about you spot the edits. I NEVER removed the sources until later on, I was only reverting the picture. Stop twisting things and learn how to read through the edits. Don't chime in if you don't know what you;re talking about, you look silly. DeadSend4 (talk) 09:45, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

Leave this page alone and go back to editing Mariah, you;re just trying to add a picture to this article and swapping out another that's no flattering to her or that era. DeadSend4 (talk) 09:46, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

I'm afraid that you're the one that can't read. And stop using those offensive languages. You have just proved yourself a silly guy with that kind of language. — Simon (talk) 09:47, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
I was being nice when I said silly, now get off this talk page since you don't know what the hell you're talking about DeadSend4 (talk) 09:49, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
Lol. This guy really thinks he owns the article. You've told, what, like 4 different editors to fuck off already on a public discussion?--PeterGriffinTalk2Me 09:52, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

Don't know why this article needs a picture of Mariah. What does the picture add? Melonkelon (talk) 09:52, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

Why include any photos in the influence section? Come to think of it, that's probably the best course of action.--PeterGriffinTalk2Me 09:54, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

@: Nobody should remove sourced materials from Wikipedia, as long as it meets WP:V and WP:RS. I think it's not about quoting Mariah's name, but rather about her picture on this page. Sorry Petergriffin9901, you have dozens sockpuppets here, so don't even try to educate me :) and who's talking about Madonna here. Please bring out your fancrufty accusation somewhere else. Regards Bluesatellite (talk) 09:55, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

So now you want to remove the pictures because we are not including Mariah, this section was fine until you came along DeadSend4 (talk) 09:56, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
@Bluesatellite: Okay thanks. @DeadSend4: Of course I know what I am talking about! Not only once but you have reverted my edits on this article so many times. You said my edits were trash, huh? So prove it? Fixing section titles and trimmed images, adding music sample made this article a trash? Here, just to compare. From 1999 to 2001 she didn't just release Christina Aguilera and Mi Reflejo, but also My Kind of Christmas and the title "Christina Aguilera, Mi Reflejo, and new management" sucks. It does not cover the main idea of the section. "2002–05: Stripped, new image, and marriage" too. When Aguilera released every new album she always adopted her new image, not with just Stripped. And so on. — Simon (talk) 09:57, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
Simon, you're not helping and we are not even discussing this at the moment. I'm going to have to ignore your interruptions on here. DeadSend4 (talk) 09:59, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
Blue, you obviously aren't reading this discussion in order. You came here insinuating and suggesting that because I am a Mariah Carey editor, I cannot be impartial and am somehow biased and trying to POV the article. I simply recalled your similar past and reminded you not to call the kettle black.--PeterGriffinTalk2Me 10:00, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
But DeadSend4, you acted as if this was your own article, and how come? Simon (talk) 10:01, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
Me not wanting to expand the article with one unnecessary is me trying to own the article? I'm not referring to ANYTHING else, any other issues you have with me, bring them up somewhere else, we;re discussing this picture revert from this person who showed up and made a mess to this article DeadSend4 (talk) 10:04, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
See? You're talking like that again. I can see that Etta James is the biggest influence for Christina, and Whitney and Mariah are equal. But the two pictures of Etta and Whitney has a description as "...two biggest influences" and that is quite biased so I think adding Mariah photo is to making that neutral, because Aguilera has only cited Etta as her biggest, but Whitney and Mariah are also big influences, too. That's no big deal until you kept reverting the Mariah photo. Simon (talk) 10:08, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
You realize this page was like this for over a year without the Mariah picture and everyone was fine with the mention? Mariah and Whitney's influence were not equal, you need to stop trying to justify this edit just to add one picture and expand the article's size for no reason. Whitney's song helped her get her record deal, Etta was/is her idol, critics have frequently mentioned Whitney and Christina's tones, Christina performed for Whitney, Whitney has praised Christina. Enough with this, leave it as it was. There was no problem until this Mariah fan came along. DeadSend4 (talk) 10:11, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
This discussion is becoming grossly uncivil due to your foul way of interaction. I suggest you rope it down. This has to come to a consensus based on reasoning and strength of argument and frankly i don't see that from you except for slandering other's inputs. —Indian:BIO · [ ChitChat ] 10:13, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
We've moved past this, I had to get someone's attention and now I did since no one bothered to read what I was saying. Unless you're going to contribute and not come back with how I should be speaking, don't bother. DeadSend4 (talk) 10:22, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
@DeadSend4: How could you know not equal? Aguilera said that? Simon (talk) 10:13, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
How do you know they are? Christina has praised Whitney, sang her first song at a talent show to Whitney and praised her until the day she died. She still praises her on The Voice. Look at the article, is supports all of this. I'll even find her tweet where she mentions Whitney if you guys really want me to justify this. Again guys, this is all over ONE picture? DeadSend4 (talk) 10:18, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
Everything he posts is 100% Original/biased Research. This discussion isn't worth it. I make two suggestions I would agree with. Remove all the photos. Leave simply Etta's photo. That is all.--PeterGriffinTalk2Me 10:15, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
Read through her article from her childhood, Whitney mention, to her debut era, Whitney mention, I bet you never read this article only to look for a Mariah mention. I did not make this up, it's in the article, you can read DeadSend4 (talk) 10:20, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
What is it with you and Mariah Vs. Whitney?--PeterGriffinTalk2Me 10:23, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
@DeadSend4: Lol, then I can say that Aguilera is inspired by Jacquie Lee because she praised her. Just leave the image of Etta, that's the best choice. Simon (talk) 10:26, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
I'm not the one who came in here to add a picture of Mariah, so this is really about Whitney isn't it? Over one picture. Like I said, go back to editing Mariah's page, this article was fine until you decided to add her picture for no reason. It adds nothing, the page was fine for years DeadSend4 (talk) 10:27, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

Jaquie Lee didn't get Christina her record contract, you guys are just trying to justify any way to remove Whitney and leave Etta on the page. That's really what it;s all about. DeadSend4 (talk) 10:29, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

You caught us.--PeterGriffinTalk2Me 10:30, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
What's the point of expanding an article that is already to large? You can't honestly say it has nothing to do with your being a huge Mariah fan. Because you spent the past few hours trying desparately to swap a picture of Christina and add a picture of Mariah, for what? DeadSend4 (talk) 10:34, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
@DeadSend4: I'm not even a Mariah fan. Go to my user page and you can see I'm a true Christina fan. You said we're the one that messed it up, but you are. Adding a photo of Mariah is not a big deal at all, but you kept reverting it. Whitney praised Aguilera, that is nonsense to cite Whitney as Christina's second biggest influence. And you kept acting as if you are the one that was true. Sorry but this needs an end. Leave the image of Etta alone as Christina cited Etta as her biggest influence. Remove Whitney and Mariah photos. Aguilera didn't even claim that they were her second biggest influences, so we can not know that who had more impact on Mariah. Aguilera made a rendition of Whitney? Nonsense. If so I can say that Lorde was inspired by The Replacements the most. Sorry, but I have to say that you are pure stupidity. Simon (talk) 10:37, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

The page was fine as it is, now you guys just want to remove Whitney altogether since you cannot add a picture of Mariah, that's basically it. Christina sang Whitney songs during talent shows, she sang Run to You which got her a record deal and she paid tribute to Whitney singing this song to her which Whitney in returned praised. This is all sourced in the article. DeadSend4 (talk) 10:41, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

@DeadSend4: You cannot understand what I said? Do I supposed to say that you are a true idiot? Singing others' songs during competitions makes no sense they had an impact on the singer. That's what I want to say. And read my idea below carefully. You'll understand. Simon (talk) 10:43, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

I love how I'm being told my these admins about insulting other editors and putting words in my mouth, yet editors here have said "shit" "fuck" and I was called stupid. But of course that's going to be ignored. Oh and Simon, I would respond to that reply but I don't want to upset you or your mother. DeadSend4 (talk) 10:45, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

Dude. Christina sang Carey's "Vision of Love" at eleven years old auditioning for 'The Mickey Mouse Show'. Quit with the senseless OR already.--PeterGriffinTalk2Me 10:47, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
Then find this source, because everything I've mentioned is sourced in this article DeadSend4 (talk) 10:48, 4 June 2014 (UTC)::@DeadSend4: Just quit it. You just kept your false opinion and that's what made us upset. Can I say again that singing songs performed by artists makes no sense to prove that the artists were the influences? Simon (talk) 10:50, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
You blind? I already posted the sources for her "Vision of Love" performance. You have yet to provide anything of value. As Simon and I suggested. Etta is er biggest influence. Avoid this ridiculous discussion and leave her photo alone.--PeterGriffinTalk2Me 10:53, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
What false opinion, that the article doesn't need another image? Yes singing a song by an artist who inspired you and is the same song that changed your life by getting you a record deal, I would say the influential but then again, I can comprehend basic English. And YouTube sources don't count as I've said before. Articles from news sources which again is on the article is an actual source. Leave the photo alone? Leave this article alone, this wouldn't have been an issue if you didn't cry about not being able to put Mariah's image on here DeadSend4 (talk) 10:56, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
@DeadSend4: This needs an end now. Don't try to keep your idea that Whitney had a greater impact on Christina than Mariah. She didn't even confirm it. The only thing Aguilera confirmed is that she was inspired by Etta James the most. Neither Mariah nor Whitney has greater influences on Christina more than Etta. Singing Mariah's and Whitney's songs does not make sense that Christina was inspired by them. Simon (talk) 10:55, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
Not the YouTube links you twat, the 2 biographies on Aguilera (there are others but are not available for view online).--PeterGriffinTalk2Me 11:00, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
@IndianBio:, @Bluesatellite:, @Melonkelon: Should we have an end now? Simon (talk) 11:02, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

You want to throw insults and names now don't you? I got you made now? Angry? And I love how these articles can't even be viewed online DeadSend4 (talk) 11:03, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

Sorry but I know who IndianBio and Melonkelon are. And stop acting like that, just proves you are a pure bastard. Regards, Simon (talk) 11:06, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
That should really tell you how editors feel about the way you've handled yourself today. Yes, after this 3-hour long discussion of you insulting me/Carey in every way possible, I called you a twat. Deal with it and grow up.--PeterGriffinTalk2Me 11:07, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

What haters. Calling me twat, bastard and being able to get away with it DeadSend4 (talk) 11:08, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

@DeadSend4: If you think that Whitney has a greater influence on Christina than Mariah, just go on and explain your opinion. I have expressed all of my thoughts, that singing/covering classic songs does not prove that he/she was inspired by such artists. But you didn't explain, just talking about shitty stuff. Simon (talk) 11:11, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
Sourced stuff DeadSend4 (talk) 11:12, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
You're the only hater dahling. She covered both songs from both singers (in fact, Carey's over a decade prior so....) PS. "One of the greatest singers of all time" is an unsupported/incredibly biased/opinionated/fanatic/NPOV statement that should be removed. Stick with the facts.--PeterGriffinTalk2Me 11:13, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
You're not Mariah so don't try that. Go back to idolizing that bloated singer and her still broken wrist DeadSend4 (talk) 11:15, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

It is enough now. This needs an end immediately. As I said, I have to claimed again that singing/covering classic songs does not prove that he/she was inspired by such artists. Leave the image of Etta James only, and remove the images of Whitney and Mariah. And yeah, deleting others' comments on your talk page, that's pathetic. Simon (talk) 11:16, 4 June 2014 (UTC) Why are you here in the first place? I knew I should of skimmed over your inerruptions to begin with DeadSend4 (talk) 11:17, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

@DeadSend4: You're the one that made everything became a mess. First you reverted my edits that helped trimming the article (as I explained in this section), and now you're complaining about adding a Mariah photo. Although I and Peter tried to explain but you still kept that fucking opinion. That's sick and pathetic. Simon (talk) 11:20, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
Sick and pathetic? Are you looking in a mirror sweetie? DeadSend4 (talk) 11:23, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
Harsh, now you are insulting me. Too bad for you. Such pure stupidity. Focus back on the topic, dude. First you insulted User:IndianBio and now me? I really don't give a damn about that, but just explain about your comments about Mariah photo in this section. I think this really needs an end now, unless you want to keep talking about shitty and irrelevant stuff. Simon (talk) 11:26, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
If you don't give a damn then leave, I'll be happy to throw you out the door DeadSend4 (talk) 11:27, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
@DeadSend4: I just don't give a damn about you insulting me, but I do with this article. See, once again you talked about irrelevant stuff. Oops! Seems like you're here? Simon (talk) 11:30, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
Good job, you can find things DeadSend4 (talk) 11:33, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
You're welcome Simon (talk) 11:35, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
I never said thank you FF DeadSend4 (talk) 11:38, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
@DeadSend4: Go and finish your job here. I'm out of here. I have wasted too much time just to say that singing/covering classic songs does not prove that he/she was inspired by such artists but you just kept on saying shit things. You can call me a bitch/bastard/douche or whatever you want. But hope you'll find yourself after your being accused. Regards, Simon (talk) 11:42, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
I wish you wrote me that in a letter so I can use it as toilet paper DeadSend4 (talk) 11:46, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

Disgusting...

Closed. Simon (talk) 13:23, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
The following discussion has been closed. Please do not modify it.

How are any of you going to block me from editing this page when none of you cannot read that these sources are not from any reliable sources? Why is a picture that clearly show her face more than a far away tour shot being reverted in the first place? I am disgusted by the actions of Acalamari for not bothering to read any of the sources. Are you kidding me? I'm starting to think most of you lack reading skills. DeadSend4 (talk) 08:13, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

Read this link: [3] (you hover your cursor and click the link - I hope most of you can do this since this is the only way I can actually show you how to click a link and see it goes to nowhere and mentions nothing) yet you block me from reverting this mess? How pathetic if you consider yourself an admin and cannot properly see this. DeadSend4 (talk) 08:15, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
Adding photo of Mariah Carey to article Why is this needed? Is there some urgency to include this for some reason? Is there even a justifiable reason? Weren't we all in a project months ago to downsize this article but now we are making it larger? DeadSend4 (talk) 09:00, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
Leaving a bogus source in the article and another that has been disputed All because someone wants to justify adding a photo?DeadSend4 (talk) 09:03, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
Swapping perfectly fine image for a picture of Aguilera, far away, barely showing her faceDeadSend4 (talk) 09:03, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
My suggestion: Since everyone is on board with the recent changes, I would like to request to have a Julie Andrews image on to the article, there is decent half paragraph in regards to her influence on Aguilera. I realize this might not be necessary and will expand the article's size, but we are all in agreement with the recent changes. Lastly, since we are also changing a clear image that clearly shows Aguilera's face to a tour photo - I would request to change the other pictures to far away shots from all over previous tours. Justin Timberlake is the only associated act, why? I can't recall them every working together, apart from MMC and co-headlining together. Melonkelon (talk) 01:05, 16 June 2014 (UTC)

Isn't that enough, though? Per the template documentation on when to list an associated act: "Other acts with which this act has collaborated on multiple occasions, or on an album, or toured with as a single collaboration act playing together". —C.Fred (talk) 13:24, 16 June 2014 (UTC)

These problems before I came along? Let's not weigh in my edits to the article in comparison to yours buddy, because you have no room to even take a breath. I CLEARLY stated that if I took out any well-documented information that the Aguilera veterans thought was important, to feel free to re-place. Focus on your own work, before you get yourself into more trouble.--PeterGriffinTalk2Me 07:34, 21 June 2014 (UTC)

This achievement should be noted? Mate, this article isn't meant to litter with every little accomplishment or success she earned. That is why the article is fucking huge and written like an Aguilera fansite.--PeterGriffinTalk2Me 07:44, 21 June 2014 (UTC)
Please get off my talk page or I will request a block interaction. I will discuss these edits on her talk page with you and other editors, but do not come in here if you're going to start this again. Everything for the past few days, has been fine - even with Simon who called me a bastard/idiot/stupid before. This is my first and last warning so I do not want to see a reply here. DeadSend4 (talk) 07:45, 21 June 2014 (UTC)
You cannot threaten or warn me for writing to you on your talk page after you've started throwing shade and weak accusations. You're on thin ice, so comments like "it was fine before you came along" is just an example of you ownership issues and bias opinions of me as an editor because of Carey. So no, you don't start because I've improved the first half of the article exponentially.--PeterGriffinTalk2Me 07:50, 21 June 2014 (UTC)

Comment – This is again turning into a big mess @Petergriffin9901 and DeadSend4: and I would say that an edit warring is about to ensue from the look of it guys. @Acalamari: requesting your input on this. Any development to the article is completely being hindered in this way. —Indian:BIO · [ ChitChat ] 08:05, 21 June 2014 (UTC)

Unfortunately. This guy just can't stop the bad faith and obviously doesn't understand policy the first time. I'ts impossible to work with or collaborate with him respectfully in any way/shape or form. Take a look at our edits. You'll see a very clear difference in their quality and neutrality.--PeterGriffinTalk2Me 08:09, 21 June 2014 (UTC)

I have the same two people replying in regards to me who I go nowhere with. I'll make it easy for both of you since no one else is going to come to my defense. I never thought I would say this but I'm going to let this article and page be. I've worked with many over the years who I would like to thank and I will continue to find other articles of interest to edit and collaborate with others. But as far as this article, I can no longer be editing here especially with the way I've been treated the past month or so. I cannot be editing with someone who has been nothing but a terrible person ever since they began their reverts on this article. After I've been blocked this person comes on my talk page to harass/cuss at me. To any admin, I would like to request an interaction block with PeterGriffinTalk2Me, I have a feeling it's close to calling me a "twat" again. Whatever follows my response won't matter, at least to me since I won't be here to read it. Those that I've had the pleasure to edit with I will continue to communicate with. DeadSend4 (talk) 08:17, 21 June 2014 (UTC)

  • To respond to IndianBio's ping, I will not be taking any admin actions towards the article or towards any user (my regular editing of this article does not count as an "admin action", though); you will need to find another administrator if you want admin intervention here. I should note, however, that everyone who participated in this dispute last time will be under more scrutiny now, so there is a risk that calling another admin might result in several blocked users if things become overheated again - something that would be a loss to everyone and to the article. To avoid that happening, my strong recommendation is that no one edit war and no one use any sort of insulting or aggressive language. Acalamari 09:01, 21 June 2014 (UTC)

Messy article!

Because the articles of some artists can be long and not Aguilera? Example; Britney Spears article with complete information while Aguilera (who in my view also has enough information) has a messy article. 187.56.234.233 (talk) 06:24, 11 July 2014 (UTC)

As can be read in the above sections, this article is currently undergoing major changes. It would be helpful to those who are working on it if you share why you think it's a messy article. Acalamari 07:07, 11 July 2014 (UTC)

Christina fans are wondering why her pictures on here havent been updated? She is on the #1 show on television The Voice and the current pic they are using is from 2012 and is an unflattering pic. Can you update to a nicer more current picture of Christina like from her vanity fair red carpet appearance this year or something from the current season of the voice? We would be ever so grateful if someone would be kind enough to do this for us! Sincerely her fans. :)

Mit28chell (talk) 16:33, 19 March 2015 (UTC) I am requesting that Ms. Aguilera's main photo be changed to a current photo of her. The photo that is presently uploaded was obviously uploaded by a hater and was taken during Christina's tumultuous 2012 year, following her divorce - it is 3 years outdated and does not represent her current look/body/health. I have provided a link to the photo that her fan base, including myself, agree best represents her current look. This photo was taken last month at the Vanity Fair Oscar's after party. The photo can be found here: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/57/84/44/578444f1c08ae6fa5cab31d1325278ec.jpg . Thank you from Christina's fans to whoever will make this change for us!

Not done: @Mit28chell: You'll need to provide documentation that the image is under a free license and may be used here. My guess is there wasn't anybody taking amateur photos inside the after party, and no professional photographers have donated their images, so that image isn't free. Of course, you're welcome to prove otherwise. —C.Fred (talk) 16:36, 19 March 2015 (UTC)

Requested edit on voice

This article is the first thing I have ever seen that would describe Aguilera as a soprano. Mezzo or even contralto are more readily used. Though she does have high notes, her tessitura and the color of her voice are more in the low mezzo or contralto category.108.44.22.227 (talk) 05:14, 17 April 2015 (UTC)

In this articles subsection titled voice, Christina Aguilera is stated to be a soprano. However many online articles including this one, http://www.divadevotee.com/2009/03/christina-aguilera-vocal-profile.html, state Aguilera to be a Mezzo-Soprano. If this could be corrected, I personally think this article would be much more informative.

72.227.108.153 (talk) 04:00, 24 April 2015 (UTC)

Not done Please list the many other articles, because divadevotee.com is not a reliable source. It is a self-published source by an unknown person. Melonkelon (talk) 04:13, 24 April 2015 (UTC)

Voice section

"Critics opine that Aguilera's vocal ability is fully expressed on downtempo ballads" the reference cited is an review of the album stripped... 'Critics' is in plural state indicating a mutual agreement by multiple critics. Hence, multiple sources must be cited or the line is invalid. An album review also isn't deductive of what critics have opined of her voice over the span of her career. (If you need sources, billboard, rolling stone, entertainment weekly i can provide a comprehensive list favoring her voice over uptempo tracks)

David Browne writing for The New York Times noted that "Aguilera's vocal performance was highly influenced by Carey and Houston, sharing that "Aguilera has been one of the foremost practitioners of the overpowering, Category 5 vocal style known as melisma" - Carey & Houston mentioned 2x in "Influence" sections so information is redundant.

Title of Section is "Voice" - an actual description of her voice would be appropriate and informative. Tone? timbre ext. As in with every other Wikipedia page where "Voice" subsection is present (i.e. almost every female singer). [There are articles from the LA,NY times, NY post hordes of other describing her voice]

There is no mention of the lists of Greatest vocalists she has made?

for example... "in 2003 Carey topped MTV and Blender magazine countdown of the 22 Greatest Voices in Music, as voted by fans and readers in an online poll....."She also placed second in Cove magazine's list of "The 100 Outstanding Pop Vocalists"..This is allowed on Mariah Carey's page why not Christina when she was 5th on the former and topped the latter list? The same lists are also mentioned in Mary J Blidge, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston pages...so why not Aguilera's?

Lastly, I propose her excessive use of melisma be moved to the paragraph highlighting her oversinging since the two concepts are inherently related.

This page looks like its been written by amateurs who have nothing but dislike for Aguilera. I suggest neutrality when editing biographical pages and thus asking the help of some objective editors to help me revamp this section. Add the good.Add the bad (I don't care) but leave personal feelings at home.

Any comments and feedback would be appreciated Many Thanks CJBXT720 (talk) 11:26, 9 May 2015 (UTC)

The article does need work, and I found lots of references didn't support attributed text back in January, though there has been improvement from this over the past few months. Let's see what other editors have to say. I haven't had any other chances to check through all references since (and it would take quite a while to do so), though it would help to get another spotchecker for that and other parts of the article. UPDATE*******************:

To your question of whether or not the account in question is official, on the official Disney ABC Press website (http://www.disneyabcpress.com), the flicker icon at the bottom of the page redirects back to that exact account (also listed as official in the about page). Directly under the photo, the "Photo by Matt Brown/ABC via Getty Images" note states that ABC owns it. Paired with the link directly attached to the image about the creative commons license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nd/2.0/), which states the image is free to share, I don't see how this image is deemed ineligible, considering it's a more recent, official picture than the one currently being used.

length

This page is ludicrously long. I understand her fans probably want to write an essay about her, but it's just really boring/tiring to read. Do we really need entire lengthy sections on "image" and "influences", "endorsements" and "styles and themes".

It just seems a bit self indulgent — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.202.245.164 (talk) 11:42, 30 April 2018 (UTC)

This article is not obscenely large for an article about an entertainer. At 151 bytes, the size of this article is smaller than those for Eminem, Madonna, Rihanna, Dwayne Johnson, Whitney Houston, Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncé, Angelina Jolie, Courtney Love, Justin Timberlake, Carrie Underwood, John Cena, Mariah Carey, Cher, Meryl Streep, Britney Spears, Kanye West, Lady Gaga, Alicia Keyes, Paul McCartney, Ben Affleck, Katy Perry, Drake, Taylor Swift, Bruce Springsteen, etc. SecretName101 06:03, 15 May 2018 (UTC)

Political activities

Is it worth mentioning her political activities? Such as campaigning and fundraising on behalf of Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election? And her work with Rock the Vote in 2008? SecretName101 (talk) 03:19, 18 June 2018 (UTC)

Voice

OK, so Liberaton has been released and these sources appeared online. What do you guys think? I would say she is indeed a mezzo. However I know people could debate that one until the cows come home. Should I change this? Or wait and see if there are any other critics suggest the same? The sources we currently have stating she is a soprano are slightly ambiguous, where as these are more explicit in stating she is a mezzo. Anyway here are the citations....[1][2] BrotherDarksoul Blether 16:50, 19 June 2018 (UTC)

Babygraciieee, regarding this and this, PopCrush isn't an ideal source to use, especially compared to a source like The Guardian interview source. WP:Verifiability states, "If reliable sources disagree, then maintain a neutral point of view and present what the various sources say, giving each side its due weight." So, in this case, if there are enough reliable sources reporting mezzo-soprano, then we should note that some sources state that Aguilera is a soprano while other sources state that she is a mezzo-soprano. Or we should state "Aguilera is a soprano or a mezzo-soprano." Whatever Aguilera has stated on the matter should also be considered. For example, if she states that she's a soprano while other sources state that she is a mezzo-soprano. Pinging BrotherDarksoul. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 22:12, 30 March 2019 (UTC)

The years active needs to be changed!

I worked for Disney and met Christina as she was on the New Mickey mouse club and that was back in 91! It was her, Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears that came to my register @ Walt Disney World Pirates of the Caribbean. She was already a member of the cast, had her SAG and was active! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:181:c401:915b:78e9:f8cd:bd27:b4cc (talk) 17:51, 8 July 2019 (UTC)

I've been turning this over in my head for a day or so. I don't know if fragrantica.com is a WP:RS, and I can't find any other sources that I would call reliable. I'm also unsure if we need a full list of her perfumes post 2010; the previous ones were relatively notable - first perfume, number one perfume, then first perfume of hers released outside of Europe. Post 2010, it's literally just a listing of the names. I wonder if this would be better reworded as something like "The range has been further augmented with a new release each year since 2010"? Nobody else has chimed in, so I've removed the list of perfumes. NiciVampireHeart 19:45, 19 October 2019 (UTC)

Signature

Why? What purpose is served having it in the article? It adds absolutely nothing because it has no encyclopedic value. It's just something that the fan boys / girls like to spam articles with but other than that it has no purpose. What next, her fingerprints? Eye retinal scans? It's just silly but apparently someone wants to leave it in. Acalamari 11:38, 29 April 2020 (UTC)

@Acalamari: No urge to do so. I have no insistence on this but my question here would be why exactly is the signature one of the parameters of Template:Infobox person if it's extraneous & unnecessary, as you say?
If it is suggested that "Signature" is problematic for a BLP infobox then this should be a broader discussion in a larger forum, given that we have numerous articles written so. Bionic (talk) 13:18, 29 April 2020 (UTC)

Please change "The proceedings were donated to the National Compassion Fund" to "The proceeds were donated to the National Compassion Fund"

The word "proceedings" is used incorrectly here and should be "proceeds". This is found in the 3rd and final paragraph of the section: 2012–2017: Lotus, second child, and television projects. Note: this is just a grammar correction, not a comment on the accuracy of the fact referenced. Emilieroberts (talk) 23:49, 7 June 2020 (UTC)

Removed 15-year-old unsourced content

Recording here for posterity the timeline of inclusion of unsourced and fake-sourced WP:TRIVIA content that has been ignored for 15 years, perpetuated in Wikipedia and now has been copied all around the internet including into books — and it doesn't pass a WP:VERIFY check. I removed it. [4]

  • On 2005-07-05 WikiLeon added new content under the "Trivia" section. No citation was included. Diff: [5]
  • On 2005-08-11 WikiLeon changed the section header from "Trivia" to "Charity" and added AIDS charity work (also not cited). Diff: [6]
  • On 2007-01-04 WikiLeon added the template "citequote" (a citation needed template)
  • On 2007-04-21 Tuba mirum added the citation as we see it today, with the edit summary "+source (couldn't find the pull quote, though)" Diff: [7]

Since it took me quite a while to research this and track down how and when it got into Wikipedia (and now copied all over the internet!), I'm recording my findings here.

Normal Op (talk) 00:37, 9 August 2020 (UTC)

it was commonplace at the time to create trivia sections for biographical articles, since WP:TRIVIA wasn't proposed until May 26, 2016, nearly a year after I made the section. Also, the letter to PETA did exist .[8]. Your removal will be reverted, please assume good faith when it comes to edits made over a decade ago. --wL<speak·check> 18:11, 4 September 2020 (UTC)

Christina Aguilera made an appearance in the 2018 comedy film Life of the Party as herself. Update her vocal range

Wikipedia's page says her vocal range goes from C3 to C♯7, but it should be updated: she hit an A#2 in her single Fall In Line, from the album Liberation (2018), at about 3:38 in the song, so her complete vocal range is A#2 - C#7. Check with a piano or a tuner, it would be good if the page were updated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Valerio.sic97 (talkcontribs) 11:29, 2 December 2020 (UTC)

Should she be called an actress?

Per MOS:LEADSENTENCE, only the occupations someone is primarily known for should be included in the lead. Imo its misleading to refer to her as an actress, she has only been in 3 movies in her whole career. FMSky (talk) 17:46, 1 May 2021 (UTC)

Christina Aguilera music genres

I think there are other genres more relevant in Aguilera`s career than Soul to be added, like Latin, considering she has done a latin album and has done spanish versions of some of her english songs, but none of her songs or albums have been categorized as Soul, the genre as only been used to refer as influenced by. Another genre that i think should be added instead of Soul or just added regarding of Soul staying as a genre and it is Electronic, she has explored that genre extensively since her 2008 Greatest Hits album Keeps Getting Better, her albums Bionic and Lotus fully explore the electronic gebre, so in my opinion the genres should be Pop RnB Latin and Electronic or leave Soul but include Latin or Electronic. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 179.51.74.254 (talk) 16:33, 8 November 2021 (UTC)

Origin of her musical career

As seen in Template:Infobox musical artist#origin, "the place where the group was founded, or where the individual performer started their career, should it not match the location of their birth".

After she was asked to hit a musical note required for "Reflection", theme song for the animated film Mulan, she thought that the song could be the gateway into an album deal. Aguilera spent hours recording a cover of Whitney Houston's "Run to You", which included the note she was asked to hit. After successfully hitting the note, which she called "the note that changed my life", she was given the opportunity to record the song and she flew to Los Angeles to start the recording sessions. Posteriorly, she gained a record deal with RCA Records, as she saiying: "I landed a record deal simultaneously as I landed the Mulan soundtrack. I had just turned seventeen years old, and during the same week, I just landed both. I recorded the Mulan soundtrack first and then a few months later I was out in L.A. recording the record for about six months".
