Anand Ingale (born November 12, 1971) is a film and theater actor working in Marathi and Hindi languages. To date, he has worked in more than 50 films[1], 20 TV serials, and 25 Marathi plays, totaling 4000 shows, in his career spanning three decades.

Anand gained success with a Marathi play titled "Makadachya Hati Champagne”  written by Dr. Vivek Bele and directed by Girish Joshi.[2]The play ran for a record 700 shows. It was later adapted into a film titled "Badam Rani Gulam Chor," in which Anand played the character Makad.[3]

Early Life[edit]

Anand Ingale was born on 12th November 1971 in Lonavala. He was raised in Pune and completed his schooling at Modern High School. Later, he pursued his college education at Symbiosis.

Career[edit]

He began his acting career in theater. Since his college days, he has been part of many experimental theater groups in Pune, such as Abhijaat Rangabhumi, Parichay, Maharashtra Cultural Centre, Theater Academy, and Grips theater. Anand had participated in and won many awards in one-act play competitions.

Theater[edit]

His first commercial play was "Amhi Jagato Befam," directed by national award-winning director Chandrakant Kulkarni. Till date, he has acted in around 25 Marathi plays, with a total of 4000 shows.

He has done many prominent plays like "Vyakti ani Valli" and "Varyavarchi Varat" by P. L. Deshpande, "Ashi Pakhare Yeti" by Vijay Tendulkar, "Tujhya Majhyat," “Suryachi Pille” and "Alibaba ani Chalishitale Chor."

He, along with actors Atul Parchure, Pushkar Shrotri, and Ajit Parab, did a play called "Amhi ani Aamche Baap," directed by his brother Aditya Ingale. The play is based on P. L. Deshpande and Acharya Atre’s most popular plays, poems, and comic literature.[4]

The play through which he gained popular recognition is "Makadachya Hati Champagne," written by Dr. Vivek Bele. The play ran for 700 shows.

His ongoing play "Khara Khara Sang," written by Neeraj Shiravaikar and directed by Vijay Kenkare, with whom he has been a frequent collaborator, is based on "The Truth," a French play by Florian Zeller.[5] He is also part of the experimental play "Yeh Jo Public Hai," written and directed by Dr. Vivek Bele.[6]

Anand Ingale has appeared in around 50 Marathi and Hindi films to date, portraying various roles ranging from character roles to comedy. His debut film was "Lapandav," directed by National Award-winning director Shrabani Deodhar.

He has also featured in several Hindi films, including "Khatta Mitha" by Priyadarshan, "Viruddha" by Mahesh Manjrekar, "Daddy" by Ashim Ahluwalia, and "Dumkata" by Amol Palekar.

Some of his notable Marathi films include “Ani..Dr Kashinath Ghanekar” in which he played a character of veteran playwright Prof. Vasant Kanetkar,[7] "Panchak," "Balak Palak," "Ajacha Divas Maza," and "Ye Re Ye Re Paisa."

He has also acted in films adapted from his plays. For instance, "Badam Rani Gulam Chor" is based on his play "Makadachya Hati Champagne," directed by Satish Rajwade. "Alibaba ani Chalishitale Chor" is his recent film released in 2024, based on the play of the same name. The film was written by Dr. Vivek Bele and directed by his brother, Aditya Ingale.[8][9]

He also appeared in the web series "Hutatma," portraying the character of Acharya Atre.[10]

In addition to his film career, Anand has ventured into television. He has acted in around 20 TV serials in Marathi and Hindi languages. His debut TV series was "Paulkhuna," directed by Amol Palekar. He has also appeared in shows like "Sonpari" and "Kahani Mein Twist."

Furthermore, he has been a part of TV plays such as "Shantata! Court Chalu Ahe," "Shejari-Shejari," and "30 Lakhachi Goshta."

Personal Life[edit]

Anand Ingale hails from a family with a classical music background. His grandfather, Pt. Keshavbuwa Ingale, served as a Rajgayak in the court of Maharaja Narayanrao Ghorpade of Ichalkaranji.[11] His father, Dr. Manohar Ingale, is a poet and a Violin Visharad.

He has two brothers: Aditya Ingale, who is a film director (known for "Alibaba Ani Chalishitle Chor"), and Alok, who is a cinematographer. Singer Milind Ingale is his cousin.

Apart from acting, Anand has interests in reading, cooking, cricket, and classical music. He believes in the power of Balnatya-children's theater and advocates for its cultivation. Since his college days, he has been actively involved in the Grips theater movement. Additionally, with his wife Radhika Ingale, he conducts personality development workshops for children.

Anand’s wife, Radhika Ingale is a PhD research scholar. Her research subject is the influence of grips theater on content creators and audiences. She has been a part of many children’s plays. For her noteworthy contribution to children’s theater, she has received an award from the Akhil Bhartiya Marathi Natya Parishad. Currently, she is the Director of SMART, the School of Media Art, the media school of Maharshi Karve Stree Shikshan Sanstha, Pune.[12]
