Dictionary of Ulster Biography ... and witches[edit]

As this was showing that only 6 women weren't yet in Wikipedia I had a look at the "B": Madeleine Bingham. The DUB had spelled her name wrong (Madeline Bingham) and the entry ran to just two sentences. I had fun digging out information about this woman and her eclectic list of publications, and her war-time career (her husband may have been the model for George Smiley), and went far beyond my usual solid little stubs. Interesting, and fun.

That said, I'm not sure that the "A" entry from DUB, Adelaide Gage is going to run: she really doesn't look notable. But I look forward to someone else managing to dig out a whole lot of notability for her! Happy Editing, everyone. PamD 16:40, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

And, as a side comment: I looked at the ODNB listing, sorted them A-Z and was shocked to see Alizon Device in red. So spent a chunk of this morning sorting out individual redirects for all the named Pendle witches, only a couple of whom already redirected to that article about their trial and execution in 1612. So that's a batch of women (and one man) who don't have individual articles but have now got redirects and will appear in relevant categories like Category:Executed people from Lancashire, Category:Executed English women and Category:People executed for witchcraft. That was today's little rabbit-hole down which I fell. PamD 16:47, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@PamD that's amazing! Lajmmoore (talk) 07:52, 2 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Lajmmoore: It's being a retired layabout - and one with a dreadful cold (three negative tests, so I think it's genuinely only a cold) so that sitting still at the computer is the only thing I feel fit for, anything mobile sets off coughing etc, so I've binged on editing in the last few days. I found a Baltic poet starting with an "A", Andra Teede. It would be fun to find a Baltic A/B climate expert for a triple hit! PamD 11:54, 2 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
