New userbox idea

United KingdomUnited StatesBermudaIsraelThis user is against overusage of flagicons!

This is only a brief example of my idea, but in many articles, especially professional footballer articles, flagicons are sometimes overused. I'm working against their overusage per WP:FLAG, but could someone create a userbox similar to the one above, obviously better than that. I'm sure theres a few people who are against this! Also, if anyone can make this, please put WP:FLAG somewhere in it! Thanks, and i hope you can look into my idea. If you can, please post it on my talk page, and put it on the list of userboxes! Thanks, Jackrm 01:28, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

I like the flag icons. — Bob • (talk) • 20:47, July 26, 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, i do too. But some people are overusing them, such as this old revision of a page. I agree with putting them in a infobox for his or her country but that's all. And don't forget, userboxes are for opinion! Jackrm 01:40, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
This kind of userbox is very interesting, and i think it should exist an oposite... I would like to use an userbox like this but refered to someone who likes to use lots of flagicons. New userbox

Hello everyone. I've just designed a userbox that I think might be interesting to wikipedians. Unfortunately, I can't quite figure out the correct procedure for uploading it (can anyone point me to the instructions page?). I've put it on User:Robinh at the bottom of my personal userboxes. Would it be good on UBX/Userboxes/Userboxes? Best wishes, Robinh 20:38, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

It is usually a good idea to put it on one of your subpages or someone will move it to one of their own. There was a controversy for a while (see WP:UBM) and it has to the best of my knowledge, only encyclopaedic and non-controversial userboxes can be hosted in main template space. --The Dark Side 02:34, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

This is one I came up with, however, i'm not sure about the process of adding boxes to the wiki project they correspond with. In this case, It'd be the Animé and Manga project. I have many ideas but am clueless on how to make userboxes/userboxen. (Put info my talk page plz!) For example:

  • There is: User:The Dark Side/Original userboxes/No mushroomsâ, but no "this user likes mushrooms" or "This user can't stop thinking about Portabello Mushrooms". What's up w/ that?
  • There are a few webcomics left out of the webcomic list (Toothpaste for Dinner, Team special olympics, Megatokyo)
  • A few more Blues Brothers ones plz!
  • What type of clothing they wear (retro, tattered, emo, rich, etc.)

Just a few of many ideas! Post my talk page if you want some more!! Zanny77 11:50 22 March 2007 (UTC)

To Kill A Mockingbird

How can one person be so drawn to wikipedia and so confused and turned off by its tome of confusing tutorials and instruction??

At any rate, I created a userbox for folks who are fans of TKAM:

TKAMThis user knows it is a sin to kill a mockingbird.

Now I'm not sure what to do with it.

I think it belongs here: Wikipedia:Userboxes/Media/Books

I need to link it to the article, I suppose. Similarly, I would like to create another userbox with a free image that already exists on Wikipedia and I can't find how to do it in the mind-boggling script of instruction on how to create a userbox. (Actually, I wanted to use the cover of TKAM in the article in the info part of the userbox, but couldn't figure out how to do it.) Any assistance would be appreciated.Moni3 16:21, 18 August 2007 (UTC)Moni3

well, you simply add a wiki link using the brackets: [[link]]. For example:
TKAM
This user knows it is a sin to kill a mockingbird.
I had to include a short HTML script to keep the text black (instead of the browser's default of blue for unvisited and purple for visited link); I also centered it. If you create a few more userboxes, it's actually quite simple, if you have a basic understanding of HTML and Hexadecimal colors: simply add your content and pick colors. You can leave a message on my talkpage if you want more help with creating a userbox, or tables to organize them on your userpage. bahamut0013 ( § ) 17:19, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
Sweet! How does one put it on the Wikipedia:Userboxes/Media/Books list? I know there are dozens of folks who watch the TKAM article. Clearly I have no idea what I'm doing. Is it read to pyt on my userpage now? Duh. Not ashamed to sign myself Moni3 01:25, 21 August 2007 (UTC)Moni3
I have just posted it to the archive for other to use. If you like, you can put it on your userpage, or you can put it in the talk page for the article so others might see it more. Feel free to leave me a message if you want to learn more. bahamut0013 ( § ) 12:37, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

Go, Speed Racer, go!

Just some ideas:

This user still mourns Ayarton.
This user follows GP2.
This user enjoys NASCAR.
This user thinks this should be the penalty for tailgating.
This user still mourns Dale.

Trekphiler 04:58, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

They're interesting ideas, but the color schemes could use some work. For example, the NASCAR box's blue link just blends in perfectly with the background. Fortunately, this is fixable. Just use this instead:
[[NASCAR|<span style="color:#FFFF00;">NASCAR</span>]].

or, if you like CSS,

[[NASCAR|<div style="color:yellow;">NASCAR</div>.

Note the use of piped links in both cases.

which would make

This user enjoys NASCAR.
Cheers mate! --Audacitor(tc) 06:47, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

British Armed Forces

Hi. I was in the SAS in the British Special Services until quite recently and I have some suggestions to make regarding the military userboxes. It would be amazing if someone would create (I would be happy to assist on this) some userboxes for British military regiments.

It doesn't have to be extensive, such one for "This user knows Who Dares Wins" – the SAS motto.

Anyway please comment on my talk page or reply on this page. Thank you. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by GowsiPowsi (talkcontribs) 02:31, August 22, 2007 (UTC).

Well, there is a huge number of units in the British military, most of which have long and honoured traditions, but I doubt they have many members who edit Wikipedia. Thus, I'd be more than happy to help you create a few specific ones if you actually have the intention of using them, but I'm not really willing to make a dozen boxes that will likely sit unused.
The SAS, however, is very well known. This is my entry:
Code Result
{{User:Bahamut0013/SASubx}}

If you can give me the hex value for "Oxford and Cambridge Blue," I would be able to incorporate that into the box. Not knowing for sure, I gave my best guess, MidnightBlue (#191970). Let me know if there are any others. bahamut0013 19:02, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

created by someone who is actually anaemic Czesc26

Would it work with a red teardrop shape behind the "AN"? Or, since it's anemia, a pink teardrop or half-filled red teardrop? I could probably make a drop that is red fading to white at the bottom, or vice-versa. Or do that kind of a fade for the square holding the "AN" without a formal teardrop shape at all, just as a background. By which I mean, I could make the graphic for you. I have no idea how to actually make a userbox with a graphic element. -- LisaSmall T/C 02:23, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

To do this automatically you would need to write some sort of script that extracts this number from your account details or watchlist page- that is beyond my capabilities, sadly. My own list changes almost hourly so I wouldn't want to keep changing such a userbox manually. There's nothing to stop you creating your own userbox, however, to show this number. If you find one, could you let me know? Thanks. --Rodhullandemu (talkcontribs) 17:41, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
I think the easiest way would be to have one, you manually change. My watchlist doesnt grow that often. I have about 450 on my watchlist and that is plenty for now, LoL, but it would be awesome if some had created one to do it for you automaticallyAladdin Zane 18:08, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Not much point having a user box for a possibly non-notable organisation. Suggest you ask again if the JAMAA page isn't deleted. --Rodhullandemu (talkcontribs) 03:50, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

I've expressed my opposition for JAMAA's deletion on the talk page for that article. What exactly makes an organization "notable". If it is a common service club available at many schools, I don't see what makes it any less worthy of a Wikipedia article than "I Don't Want You to Go". Rhythmnation2004 03:54, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

Have a look at Wikipedia:Notability under clubs. This is not the place for discussion, the talk page of your article is. --Rodhullandemu (talkcontribs) 04:02, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
And your article's been deleted anyway. --Rodhullandemu (talkcontribs) 04:03, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

From the Dutch Wikipedia

Hello everyone.

I originally made these userboxes for the Dutch Wikipedia, but perhaps you can use them here to. Maniago 18:28, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

"Last Word" Userbox

I'm not very good at creating userboxes, so I thought that I would post my request here. It's intended to be a humourous userbox, and it would say something along the lines of This user always has to have the last word. Could anyone help to design this? MelicansMatkin 14:13, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

How about this:

'But...'This user always has to have the last word!
PhilB ~ T/C 14:36, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
That looks fantastic, thank you! MelicansMatkin 16:14, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

Is it nice?

Ayrton Senna!

As an F1 fanatic, I find it hard to believe that there are no userboxes for Ayrton Senna (or if there IS one, I just can't find it)! And it's especially annoying because I was able to find one for Alain Prost. Can someone please create a good Senna userbox and give the great man the place he deserves??Raghuvansh r (talk) 22:42, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

Pigeon fancier userbox

I couldn't find any so decided to have a go at making one. What do you think? The pictures one of my own I uploaded to Wikimedia for an article. I'm not sure just yet what categories it might go in? I also need one with a picture of a honeybee and the text saying this user is a beekeeper. Sting_au Talk 10:42, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

A pigeon. This user is a pigeon fancier.

Somethings going wrong with my userbox? I made a subpage from my userpage for it, but when I try and link to it and put it in my userbox list it spills over? Can someone take a look and see if I have the coding correct please? Sting_au Talk 23:07, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

Centenary student/alum userbox

I'm bored of writing my Thomas Hardy paper, so I thought I'd try my hand at making a userbox for myself and fellow students. I'm not exactly sure on what to do next...it can be viewed at Template:User Centenary

I'd like to put it on my User page, as well as have it listed under Louisiana here.

All help is appreciated! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Unclebanglin (talkcontribs) 05:35, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

EDIT: I figured it all out...I think. The {{User Centenary}} tag is up and alive and the new category is up too, at Category:Wikipedians by alma mater: Centenary College of Louisiana

New userbox – British Association

Hi, I just made this User:DuncanHill/BA for users who are members of the British Association. I would welcome any feedback – it's the first time I've tried this! DuncanHill (talk) 00:59, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

Little help?

Im having trouble trying to figure out how to make a UserBox...Would anyone be willing to walk me through it? Or make me one? Dokuhebi (talk) 21:06, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

World cinema ubx

Hi, there are existing templates for things like "silent movies" and the quite specific, "South Korean films". I'd like to have a general userbox for "World cinema". I copied the code of an existing ubx containing a graphic of the Earth, but I'm not sure about it:

This user is enjoys World cinema.

Perhaps there should be an image better suited to film (such as a clapper-board with the earth on it??). Plus the colour scheme is perhaps a little dull. I dunno. Any thoughts / improvements welcomed! Gram123 (talk) 16:25, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

Civil Engineer

This user is a Civil Engineer.

As of yet, there is no userbox for civil engineers, please tell me what you think. OneScholar (talk) 23:14, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

Padawan Animator

There's this idea I have for a user box that'll say "This user is a padawan animator." I was thinking it could also have that Wikipedia symbol for animation at one side and "PA" in the other side. I was also thinking of having another one that says, "This user is a member of the Lightbox Order." Basically just a silly way of saying that traditional animation is a part of your life.--Padawan Animator (talk) 00:26, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
