New Project[edit]

Feels right to have a Rutgers Wikiproject on Wikipedia. Anyway, I could mostly help with pictures around campus (I just got a new digital camara). Might add some relevant info to Rutgers-related articles as well.--Jersey Devil 04:23, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Improve Traditions at Rutgers University article[edit]

"RU Screw" AKA "Rutgers Screw" is IMHO a Tradition. I feel sure the concept has been around since 1766 (early conditions were awful, and the school went broke many times). The word "Screw" is clearly newer, though probably not documented. The "1982 RU Screw" mention in the main article should be moved to Tradition, and generalized to all the many large and small "screws" students suffer at any school; but Rutgers' screw has a name.

The NJWC/Douglass College traditions (beyond Passion Puddle) should be collected before they vanish. Yule Log, Moving-Up, Sacred Path.

Let's not forget the more recent traditions, if we decide to put a traditions section back in. Tent State University, Rutgersfest (until 2011), and now Rutgers Day can be considered some of the more recent "Traditions" of Rutgers. — Rickyrab. Yada yada yada 23:14, 27 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Alumni[edit]

Writing comprehensive articles worthy of inclusion as featured articles about extremely important Rutgers alumni (Milton Friedman, Selman Waksman, Joyce Kilmer, Robert Pinsky, etc.)

Joyce Kilmer is known mainly for one (very famous) poem, and I didn't know who Robert Pinsky was.

Friedman, no doubt.

Waksman, a hero for the second major antibiotic and a hero at Rutgers for giving RU the profits, but not widely known.

Paul Robeson is a must-mention. Rutgers didn't make him big, we was big in his own right. In later years he fell out of sync with American political trends, not a great poster-child for Rutgers. But must-mention.

"Mr Magoo"... fictional but had that Old School Spirit which (apparently) Rutgers is/was known for.

I would include Avery Brooks. I may be biased because I know him, but a generation of neo-Trek fans know Avery. Nevermind that: he did Robeson better than Paul himself, and a powerful Othello.

Calista Flockhart? She zoomed through here too fast to grab a diploma, but we call her "ours", cut her an Honorary sheepskin, she does some promotion. Similarly: James Gandolfini. Kristin Davis. Not lifetime achievement award stuff, but not nobodies.

One "Rutgers tradition" is NOT properly compiling and promoting RU's famous alumni.

Several of these already exist - Selman Waksman, Joyce Kilmer, Milton Friedman, Paul Robeson, Robert Pinsky, even Mr. Magoo. RossPatterson 00:55, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No Rutgers College article[edit]

Rutgers College currently redirects to the University main page. Rutgers College existed for well over 200 years and was the preeminent college at Rutgers University during its entire history up until its elimination/absorption in 2007. It really should have its own article specifically about the college as a separate academic entity. Livingston, Douglass, Cook (SBES), and University Colleges all have their own pages. Rutgers College should have its own page with disambiguation at the top to direct those interested to the University page. Njsustain (talk) 10:27, 26 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You are invited to join the discussion at Wikipedia talk:Content assessment#Proposal: Reclassification of Current & Future-Classes as time parameter, which is within the scope of this WikiProject. This WikiProject received this message because it currently uses "Current" and/or "Future" class(es). There is a proposal to split these two article "classes" into a new parameter "time", in order to standardise article-rating across Wikipedia (per RfC), while also allowing simultaneous usage of quality criteria and time for interest projects.
