Pittsburgh Mayors & Succession Boxes

Articles have been created for all mayors, and they have been linked by succession boxes. Npeters22 (talk) 19:30, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

Fantastic work, thanks so much, as one of the members who spearheaded getting the mayors into wiki, this is great to see the monumental task of completion has been achieved! Hholt01 (talk) 03:06, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

Pitt Template

I added a template for Pitt Users. I'm not sure if this is exactly right for this page, but as there is no Project Pitt, I decided to be bold. BocoROTH (talk) 10:48, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

Question about Pittsburgh 250 1758-1816

Who was the defacto leader of Pittsbourough from 1758 to 1816 when we got Ebenzer Denny as our first "city" mayor? I have exhausted all web portals, Pitt online resources and even had a few librarians search it out at the Carnegie. There seems at most to have some very old manuscripts that do NOT list a chronological list of the leaders but mention who commanded Fort Pitt and the burgeses of the borough of Pittsburgh here and there over 500-1000 pages. Does anyone have a way to find this information. Pretty strange to have a 250 celebration without knowing who lead us for the first 64 or so years! Hholt01 (talk) 03:11, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

Center Township, Beaver County, Pennsylvania

This article has what appear to be severe problems with vandalism and political activism pretending to be information. Could someone familiar with the area look the article over and give it a brushing up? There are big hunks I'd delete out of hand, but I'm far away and not sure what's real and what isn't in the area.Loren.wilton (talk) 23:15, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

PNC Park Overhaul

I have completely re-written the PNC Park article. You can see my version here. The only thing that I have left to do is go over it throughly for spelling/grammar. I think that many parts of the article could still be improved further. Please let me know of any suggestions that you have for it. There are a few things that I would like to expand on that I cannot find sources for:

  1. Better explination of "Plan B"; where did the money come from?
  2. Citations for anything that says [citation needed]
  3. A better picture of anything exterior (the current one of the Honus Wagner statue is nice, but the "P" in PNC is cut off; a new picture could easily be found/taken. If all else fails I will probably be going to a few games this year and can get one myself. Any exterior picture will do though.
  4. Popular Culture section expansion
  5. Specific ground rules
  6. Source of who hit fly-balls into the river on the fly during the 2006 HR Derby

If anyone could help out with these sources it would be much appreciated. And once again, let me know any other suggestions you have. Thank you! Blackngold29 (talk) 04:50, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

The article has been peer reviewed if anyone can help with the following items it would be great:
  1. Was there a bidding process that took place? When was HOK Sport hired to do the project?
  2. Financial impact the park has had on the area?
I feel the article is close to GA status, if you have the answer to either of these questions it would really help the article along. Blackngold29 14:33, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

WikiProject University of Pittsburgh

As the number and scope of wikipedia articles on topics relating to the University of Pittsburgh has grown, several editors have become interested in joining a Pitt-specific WikiProject. As WikiProject Pittsburgh and WikiProject Universities would be the natural parent projects, I wanted to give a heads-up for the idea and solicit suggestions and recommendations before I and other editors would move forward in the project's creation. thanks you, CrazyPaco (talk) 19:09, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

Pitt WikiProject

The Pitt WikiProject is now up and running. Feel free to join us!

WikiProject University of Pittsburgh

As a current or past contributor to a Pitt-related article, I thought I'd let you know about WikiProject University of Pittsburgh, a collaborative effort to improve Wikipedia's coverage of the University of Pittsburgh and the Pitt Panthers. If you would like to participate, you can visit the project page, where you can join the project and see a list of open tasks and related articles. Thanks! ~~~~

Sports sub-project

I've been thinking about starting a WikiSubProject of this project to concentrate on the sports teams in Pittsburgh (primarily Steelers, Bucs and Pens, but also the Explosion, Pitt Panthers, etc.) There is already a project based around the Steelers, which works well. But I get the feeling that the other teams get somewhat left behind. I don't want to go overboard, I don't think every player on every team in the history of Pittsburgh sports needs to be included in the project; only the franchise, their home arenas, seasons, etc. I would like to work with other sports wikiprojects as much as I can.

Anyway that's my basic idea. I just wanted to get a feel of who (if anyone) would be interested in joining such a project. Thank you! Blackngold29 15:52, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

I would be interested, there is a lot of natural overlap between such a project and the WP:PITT project.CrazyPaco (talk) 18:35, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

The Terrible Towel (A Pittsburgh Original)

I spent some time and completely re-wrote the article about the Terrible Towel, I was wondering if someone would mind taking a look over the article. I put it up for peer review, comments there; or if its easier to just correct the article, then go for it. Thanks! Blackngold29 01:37, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

The article entitled Towel Power could also use attention.CrazyPaco (talk) 17:17, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

Heinz Field overhaul

I am planning on completely overhauling the Heinz Field article. If you would like to help in any way, you can either leave a messege on my talk page; or just jump right in (but I warn you it might be messy for a while). Thank you. Blackngold29 01:24, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

Luke Ravenstahl's GA review

The article on our boy mayor, Luke Ravenstahl, is currently in limbo. It passed several of the criteria for Good Article status, but it needs some copy editing and the lead in weak. Can anyone take a look at it and help out? Thanks!--TheZachMorrisExperience (talk) 03:59, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

Iconic image for deletion

Please see commons:Image:Carnegie_Library_Dinosaur_with_scarf.jpg.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 22:08, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

This is an extremely annoying corner of copyright law, isn't it? Any suggestions?CrazyPaco (talk) 00:11, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
I listed an @ to the musuem on the deletion discussion page at Commons. Perhaps somebody could @ them, and ask them for copyright status? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 17:43, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
If The Bean can have so many images of it, than there must be a way to get dippy back up. This issue was discussed on its talk page. It appears that they have successfully used "fair use" as justification, so this must then also apply to Dippy. CrazyPaco (talk) 05:40, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
Well, we can move it under fair use to en Wikipedia. But the problem is that the statue cannot be claimed under a free license unless the copyright owner gives us the right to so. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 14:28, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
I would just move it to en Wikipedia with fair use. In an article specifically about a landmark public sculpture, it is definitely better to have an image than to not, at least in my opinion. I don't see pursing a copyright release as being especially easy or even probable to accomplish, but who knows. CrazyPaco (talk) 23:37, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
I got a release for Image:Diplodocus carnegii statuePittsburgh.jpg. Let me see about this one.--TheZachMorrisExperience (talk) 17:21, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
Good job! --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 17:46, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
Zach, for future reference, how exactly did you go through this process? I wasn't even aware of the OTRS system.CrazyPaco (talk) 22:35, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
WP:OTRS may help.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 05:23, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

List of Pittsburgh Steelers first-round draft picks

nominated List of Pittsburgh Steelers first-round draft picks for FLC. --Gman124 talk 17:37, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

Awesome, I'd be glad to help you address anything that needs cleaned up. I'm sure the FLC reviewers will come up with something. Blackngold29 17:54, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

  • The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
  • The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
  • A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! Articles flagged for cleanup

Currently, 1622 articles are assigned to this project, of which 259, or 16.0%, are flagged for cleanup of some sort. (Data as of 14 July 2008.) Are you interested in finding out more? I am offering to generate cleanup to-do lists on a project or work group level. See User:B. Wolterding/Cleanup listings for details. More than 150 projects and work groups have already subscribed, and adding a subscription for yours is easy - just place a template on your project page.

If you want to respond to this canned message, please do so at my user talk page; I'm not watching this page. --B. Wolterding (talk) 17:35, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

PNC Park peer review

I got PNC Park up to a GA a few months ago and thought I would now revisit the article to make an FA push. If you have any comments at all, about anything please do not hesitate to add them to the peer review page. Like I said, I'm going for a star here, so beat the Cheese Chester out of it! Thank you! Blackngold29 02:21, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

New article

I created an article entitled Pittsburgh in the American Civil War. Have a look, and feel free to make improvements as necessary. 8th Ohio Volunteers (talk) 11:32, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Pittsburgh

Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.

We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.

A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.

We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! For the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial team, SelectionBot 22:29, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

Good article review for Randy Pausch

Hi, if anyone has time could you please take a look at Randy Pausch and review it for its current Good article nomination? Thanks in advance! :) Gary King (talk) 18:14, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

WDVE Expansion?

I was looking over the article for WDVE and was thinking that perhaps there was call for expansion. More specifically, I was wondering about a linked article for the discography of the WVDE Morning Show. I originally went looking for it because I'd like to find the discography myself. I only own copies dating back to around 1995 and I know they started releasing comedy content in the mid-80s. (Wasn't the first one in 1988?)

I'm imagining a list of all the releases first and foremost, not necessarily a complete track listing for all releases (but I would be willing to help compile that using the sources at my disposal.)

Medleystudios72 (talk) 18:03, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

My local library had one from the '80s. I'll see if it's still there, if nothing else we can cite the CD itself. Good idea! Blackngold29 18:52, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

This article is currently under Good Article review, if you feel inclined to participate. Thanks, Grsztalk 19:38, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

Carmen L. Robinson

I have concerns over the notability of Carmen L. Robinson, an as-yet-not-officially-announced candidate for Mayor. Please read the article and Talk:Carmen L. Robinson and provide your input. I'm torn between taking this to AFD before the official announcement, on the grounds that it being here at that time is an abuse of the project, or leaving it untagged in the hopes that the person will become notable at that time, saving the time and trouble of an AFD. Input from locals would help a lot. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 17:56, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
