Is this campaign part of WikiProject United States' 50,000 Challenge, or a separate campaign? I ask to see if Category:WikiProject United States' 50,000 Challenge should be added to this page. ---Another Believer (Talk) 02:08, 4 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It's a contest idea to fuel a challenge, part of it, but with prizes, like the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon. A way to get people to focus on existing quality enmasse. I won't look much more into this now as I'm running the Africa one at the moment!♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:45, 8 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Mexico?[edit]

Is Mexico being included? ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:47, 8 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Misnamed competition[edit]

Despite being in the US realm, American Samoa and Guam are definitely not in North America. On the other hand, US Virgin Islands is in North America but not listed. Also, North America includes all the Caribbean countries yet they are not listed. If you call it a North American competition but don't include Mexico, Greenland and Caribbean countries, you might as well call it Canadian & American competition. It also appears that someone needs to brush up on their elementary school geography. OhanaUnitedTalk page 02:37, 22 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Currently active?[edit]

Is this project in progress? Like, can we begin the de-stubbing process and start gaining points or is there an official start date? FriarTuck1981 (talk) 01:43, 6 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Dr. Blofeld: Should this page be deleted, or...? ---Another Believer (Talk) 01:25, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I think the contest is still a super idea but other people can apply for grants for contests, I can't run everything!♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:18, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@OhanaUnited, Miyagawa, FriarTuck1981, and MB298: What say you? Does this page serve a purpose? Should we delete? ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:20, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Another Believer: I would say delete it, because it will take a while before the Canada, US and Latin America challenges are completed. It's also a bit shameful that the onset of this project only included Canada and US in its original scope. OhanaUnitedTalk page 20:02, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

How it is shameful?? To run a contest like we had for Africa for North America and benefit a few thousand articles. I'm baffled by the sudden hostility towards this. Perhaps it's because Canadians and Americans would prefer to have separate national contests in which case this could be merged into either one instead.♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:48, 22 February 2018 (UTC)♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:46, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I've nominated the page for deletion. Feel free to contribute to the ongoing discussion here: Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia:WikiProject North America/The North America Destubathon. Thanks, ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:05, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Greenland[edit]

Awkward brigade here. :) The lead of the Greenland article states "Though physiographically a part of the continent of North America, Greenland has been politically and culturally associated with Europe (specifically Norway and Denmark, the colonial powers, as well as the nearby island of Iceland) for more than a millennium." So should Greenland be included in the continent destubathon? Miyagawa (talk) 11:37, 4 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Alternatively it could be held off for a future Scandi-based destubathon. Miyagawa (talk) 11:39, 4 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Miyagawa: If I have a choice, I would dismantle this challenge because it was full of errors in the first place. As you have correctly identified, Greenland is part of North America yet it's not included in the scope. I have raised this issue about a month and a half earlier than you about missing all of the Caribbean countries + American territories in the Caribbeans while at the same time included America Samoa and Guam that shouldn't be. To this day, they were still not being addressed. Mexico was also an afterthought.[1] This challenge is such a classic case of systematic bias of Global North from the get-go. Whoever created this challenge must be ignorant enough to have forgotten that there are other countries in North America aside from Canada and the US.
