Lithuania-myth-stub[edit]

IMO it is needed, because there are about 50-60 stubs, that in my opiniuon are deadends, and now they clog up Lithuania-stub place, and are only relatively related to it.--Lokyz 14:42, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that's one thing... I really believe all those stubs should be merged into one article/list because 95% of them are destined to be stubs forever (just there is no info about those reconstructed deities) and all of them have dubious claims. It would be much easier to find out any wrong statements in one big list than in 60 sub-stubs.
If merged, mythology stub is not needed. Renata 17:23, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Collaboration of the week[edit]

is it needed, will someone participate?--Lokyz 14:57, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I believe it's a bit too early for that. First, let's get the whole project up and going. It's a good idea, but now right now and right here. Let's better think what is needed for the project to become alive? Here are some thoughts:
  1. Category tree to explain/plan future categories
  2. Article index - list of all existing articles about Lithuania and what needs to be done to them; at the same time articles could be assessed (stub-ok-featured; not important-very important). I might attempt to compile the list of articles (more or less from my watchlist)
  3. Article talk template - "this article is part of WikiProject Lithuania" (btw, P in wikiproject is capitalized)
  4. Compilation of missing articles
  5. Comprehensive resource page
That's just some basic ideas. Renata 17:23, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
also adding on going votes related with LT M.K.

So this is next step:) Anyone should free to edit/make this page structure better. For now it is as programmer call it - in early alpha. Altoug, I do have feeling it could become tool.

sorry I still not see vote issue, could you please point me directly; I do not find it :)M.K.
Discussions ... - if you need a separate section for vote add it, altough, IMO it would seem as a conspiracy untill this page is not official. We could mark this feature as a will be enabled out of beta. Would this satisfy you? because i'm not so eager to vote, I've stated it before.--Lokyz 21:52, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
eee... I mean to notify editors which article related with LT is going a vote procedures like Jogaila was and etc. i'm not so eager to vote, I've stated it before. -sorry but I did not recall this your statement, maybe I missed some issues...M.K. 21:58, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Category[edit]

Should we add [[Category:Lithuania]] (or any othe category) to this, to be accessible by more editors or should we wait?--Lokyz 22:01, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There are many other things to do first. Renata 11:21, 3 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tasks for the weekend[edit]

So, let's decide what we are going to do over the weekend.

First, I think, we need to decide if we want to do article assesment on quality (see, for example, {{Grading scheme}}) and/or importance. See for example existing template on Talk:Audrys Cardinal Bačkis. Should we have one like that? If so, start developing rating standards, rating template, categories, etc.

Second, start compiling a list of missing articles. Start with really important ones.

Third, since Lokyz seems to be the most involved with categories, you could make some sort of category tree to show existing categories and categories that might be needed. (btw, to link a category, you should put : in front of the word category. example: category:Lithuania) Renata 11:21, 3 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Assessment is good thing, just IMO it's a bit early to think about it. Importance - yes, it would be really helpful to make important articles better, also template indicating that this article belongs to WP:LIT is good thing (or should we wait until this WP will get official status?).
I just dunno how much time I'll have on weekend, so can't promise a lot, but I hope I'll participate.

Should we create a subpage for requested articles and/or turorial and/or references?----Lokyz 13:16, 3 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Persondata[edit]

Should we use this Wikipedia:Persondata ? It is stated it's for automated collection of data for Wikipedia.--Lokyz 21:27, 3 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Images[edit]

Maybe we should build some sort of Lithuania related image data base? M.K. 21:32, 3 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It would be great. Added image request section.--Lokyz 21:46, 3 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Um, simpliest way would to properly inventorize/categorize whatever images are on commons, here and on lt wiki. Easiest way - transfer all free images on commons. Renata 22:28, 3 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That's what M.K was talking about - not create separate, just to collect into commons a propper amount of pitures to use both in Lithuanian and English version of Wikipedia.--Lokyz 22:38, 3 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

btw what is procedure to upload alredy existing in EN or LT etc. wiks. pictures in comm.? Does another editor could do it (not 1 editor, who uploaded these images)?

maybe we need and some sort Articles needing copy/edit also? it would be very handy at least to mine articales for sure :P M.K. 10:35, 4 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

one more note, near article which, is in the Requests for article part, to avoid collision when two editors work on same articles, we should sign near the article who will take to write about it e.g. in the list- is request for Kolduneliai - I have appropriate info etc. so I will take it and near the name Kolduneliai I sing to inform others that I will work on this issue. M.K. 21:54, 5 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: images. I created category Category:Images of Lithuania so please "dump" all images there. When uploading an image from EN or LT to commons you need to give as much info as possible on the original uploader. See for example this image uploaded by Knutux to commons from Lithuanian WP where it was uploaded by Algirdas. Renata 21:33, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
so what we should do with remaining old images when they are placed in comm. tag with speed del. or just leave in one peace?

Restructure[edit]

I did some work. IMO it looks much better now (what do you think?), but I am not quite done with resources part. So hold on, I just run out of time. Renata 15:31, 6 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

So I moved it myself... We are official now :) And of course, help make Lithuania beter so it can pass GA nomination. Renata 16:39, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
GA issue should be the 'top importance matter now to us! M.K. 09:49, 8 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

AK[edit]

M.K added suggestion to look for references to Armia Krajowa article, but it is rather political, and calm head recommended. No need to start another one WW on this issue. At this state article is rather acceptable and allmost balanced thanks to Piotrus. No need to spoil this balance. So evaluate sources very carefully.--Lokyz 10:29, 8 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Userbox[edit]

We need a userbox. íslenska hurikein #12 (samtal) 14:37, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'd add we need Template.--Lokyz 14:56, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am against a userbox. Talk page template is the first thing on my to-do this weekend. Renata 17:04, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'll make one, I guess. íslenska hurikein #12 (samtal) 17:11, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Userbox is redundant. No need for it, unless someone just can't live without toys.--Lokyz 19:37, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That's me. :P íslenska hurikein #12 (samtal) 19:43, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok: So create at least 5 decent Lithuania related stubs, and then we'll discuss this issue(later)--Lokyz 19:58, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I'll do it tommorrow when I have time. íslenska hurikein #12 (samtal) 20:11, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Here's one. I'll do the rest later. íslenska hurikein #12 (samtal) 15:15, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Are you still going to do the userbox? If not, I wouldn't mind giving it a shot... Andrius 19:28, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I have created one at Wikipedia:WikiProject Lithuania/Userbox:

This user is a member of Lithuania WikiProject

Renata 04:15, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sweet! Thanks. íslenska hurikein #12 (samtal) 14:06, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome[edit]

BTW, we need to modify {{welcome}} to Lithuanian users, to invite them to the project, etc. Renata 11:19, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

featured picture[edit]

Maybe we should add featured picture related with Lithuania?? M.K. 18:56, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Portal Lithuania might be OK, but there are not enough of pictures. So everyone march to the store and buy yourself a fotocamera:)--Lokyz 19:11, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pro memoria[edit]

Some people just go, therefore IMO it would be great to remember them and to say at least a few words by creating at least some stub. I happened once to be a pupil of Gintaras Beresnevičius and I think He deserves to be mentioned in this great enciclopedia.Lokyz 23:33, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lithuania Music stub ?[edit]

Who created this witout a request {{Lithuania-music-stub}}? For stub categories there are strict rules, and they should be requested, not created at will.--Lokyz 15:33, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Assessment[edit]

Ok, guys, we have some serious work to do. I have just finished creating Wikipedia:WikiProject Lithuania/Assessment. What you need to do is to take {{WikiProject Lithuania}} and paste it on talk pages of Lithuania-related articles. Add quality and importance ratings as per assesment guidelines. Short version is presented bellow. Please leave comments on what should be improved to reach better quality rating. Also, if the article is 1-3 sentences in length add substub=yes. Pretty simple really. See Talk:Dubingiai Castle for example. Questions? :)

(Stolen from Mathematics Wikiproject)

FA Featured article
A Article is well written, reasonably complete and referenced; possible featured article candidate.
GA This is a good article
B We have a decent article, but it needs further editing
Start Significant cleanup or expansion needed.
Stub Article is miserable or a stub.

(Stolen from India WikiProject)

Need: A measure of an subject's importance, regardless of its quality
Top {{top-importance}} Subject is a must-have for a print encyclopedia.
High {{high-importance}} Subject is exceptionally important.
Mid {{mid-importance}} Subject contributes a depth of knowledge.
Low {{low-importance}} Subject fills in important details.

Renata 16:46, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Isn't GA supposed to be #ccffcc? íslenska hurikein #12 (samtal) 16:47, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Dunno, not really important. Changed to {{GA-Class}}. Renata 16:51, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
So, say for example right now I'm filling all the red links in List of cities in Lithuania, should I put the template in the new articles? And what importance would those stubs be? Andrius 23:41, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The template goes on the talk page. Importance does not depend on quality. For cities, I would use population/political status as indication of importance. Say, 10 county capitals are top importance, other 50 municipality capitals are high importance, other cities are mid importance and cities with population with less than 2000 is low importance. That's rough guide, feel free to disagree. Renata 00:18, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Have question. Do you personally should add and rate this on your own written articles or you should wait for other person to do so as third side? M.K. 14:55, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

i see nothing too wrong about rating yourown articles. Renata 18:47, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If article is FA this means you have to rank it as FA also? M.K. 17:38, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. GA too. Those are deternimed by the community. (Well, some GA could be A-class) Renata 18:47, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Articles that need attention[edit]

Somehow I think this section Articles that need attention should be placed several positions on top, if not the main one. M.K.

Top Priority[edit]

Since Lithuania is now a GA, what's gonna be the top priority? Andrius 13:42, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Let's just finish filling up list of cities?--Lokyz 06:17, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Icon for footieclub stub[edit]

Shouldn't we do something outstanding and for Lithuanian football club stub use a bit different icon than in eurofootie stub? Any proposals are welcome.--Lokyz 06:17, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Navigation box[edit]

do we nedd something like this Template:Ukraine topics?

I don't like it. Not needed clutter. Renata 10:53, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cities are done![edit]

Bravo! All the city articles have been created! The two people we really have to thank is Lokyz and Andrius. Way to go guys! Now let's un-stub them!:) Renata 23:37, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This article is miserable... and we should clean it up. First we need to break it down to smaller periods. I porpose something like this:

  1. History of Lithuania (before 1218)
  2. History of Lithuania (1218-1377) → not 1385 because the whole of Jogaila belongs to Kreva
  3. History of Lithuania (1377-1569)
  4. History of Lithuania (1569-1795)
  5. History of Lithuania (1795-1918)
  6. History of Lithuania (1918-1945)
  7. History of Lithuania (1945-1989)
  8. History of Lithuania (since 1989)

Objections? Renata 13:23, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

nope, just all the articles would be very small... Probably we should work on categories as well, split it into smaller parts.--Lokyz 13:29, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Huh? (the first part). Categories can wait. Renata 14:04, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'd suggest to add section History of Lithuania (1939-1945)--Lokyz 19:54, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
See my first half of #2 at user:Renata3/1219-1377. Comments welcome! Renata 16:32, 27 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Another one idea - prehistoric Lithuania-1009, then mythical Lithuania 1009-1218 --Lokyz 22:14, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Such subarticles worked very well for the History of Poland.-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk  15:33, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'd suggest that we create one article (probably two (three) - interwar period, and again independent Lithuania (by third I mean Lithuanian SSR also deserves mentioning as being specific form of government)). And if a need emerges, split it into more specific articles (be it the 1st or the 11th). not sure whether separate articles for ministers are needed. (Maybe joint- minister/ministerium would be useful). Or at least list for a start - every list encourages anyone who visits it to fill red links:) Another one suggestion - reserve Minister Cabinet of Lithuania for current cabinet, and use navigation box to access former cabinets. (A little evaluation of cabinet's deeds would be useful, don't you think?) Also list of ministeries would help. --Lokyz 14:19, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

First of, it should be Cabinet of Lithuania as per Category:National cabinets. Renata 01:57, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Kudos for your wikiproject![edit]

First, let me congratulate you all on this splending WikiProject, something which I will want to emulate with the creation of Polish WikiProject and would greatly appreciate any advice or help here.-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk  15:33, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting video[edit]

Thought this might be of interest to some people - a video on Google Video consisting of nazi, soviet propaganda, videos of war (WWII), and basically an overwiew of Lithuanian occupation. Click Here. BTW, it's 54 minutes long. Andrius 21:29, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Really cool! Thanks, Andrius! Renata 21:51, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Another video (unrelated to the previous one) - this is a video of the Baltic Way Click Here, should it go into the external links of the Baltic Way article? Andrius 20:45, 10 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Moved out[edit]

Guys, if you are missing your discussions "let's be friends": see Wikipedia:WikiProject Lithuania/Conflict resolution. Please keep this talk directly related to the project itself and for planning of present and future collaborations. Thank you. Renata 03:45, 7 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reorganize[edit]

I just moved new article announcements to new sub-pages for cleaner look and less clutter. Add these two to your watchlists: Wikipedia:WikiProject Lithuania/New articles & Wikipedia:WikiProject Lithuania/New sub-stubs. Renata 04:18, 7 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Towns[edit]

Maybe we should categorize towns/vllages not by county but by district (and these by counties)? This would be more appropriate IMO.--Lokyz 16:04, 10 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's over-categorizing. Counties work just fine right now. Renata 16:30, 10 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Naming of towns[edit]

Tagging talk pages and assessing articles[edit]

Wikipedia Assessments within AWB. Click on the image to see it in better resolution

Hi. If you still have work to do tagging talk pages and assessing articles, my AWB plugin might be of interest to you.

The plugin has two main modes of operation:

  • Tagging talk pages, great for high-speed tagging
  • Assessments mode, for reviewing articles (pictured)

As of the current version, WikiProjects with simple "generic" templates are supported by the plugin without the need for any special programatic support by me. I've had a look at your project's template and you seem to qualify.

For more information see:

Hope that helps. If you have any questions or find any bugs please let me know on the plugin's talk page. --Kingboyk 13:54, 20 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Do we need this? M.K. 20:53, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Kaunas forts, Smiltynė, Plokštinė (rather a bunker, not fort), Molotov Line, what more ? --Lysytalk 20:59, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Vilnius (+-) M.K. 21:06, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Probably the category would be rather empty, unless we describe individual objects of Molotov line, which will probably not happen soon ... On the other hand, e.g. Category:Forts in Poland has only 3 articles so far (of course there are many more forts in PL than 3). How about Category:piliakalnis ? --Lysytalk 21:12, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
plus nine forts in Kaunas could be impressive number if not merge to Kaunas Fortress as one M.K.
... if you'll write these articles :-) --Lysytalk 21:18, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Some day I will for sure :) M.K. 21:19, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How about this ? There are plenty of hill-forts in Lithuania, each has its own story and deserves an article. --Lysytalk 07:24, 24 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Assessment2[edit]

When placing just {{WikiProject Lithuania}} I cant assess and reassess the article, any suggestions? — Preceding unsigned comment added by M.K (talkcontribs)

Take a look at Talk:Punia (town). --Lysytalk 13:53, 27 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Take a look at Talk:Radziwiłł Palace in Vilnius M.K. 14:11, 27 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
As I understand you just copy/paste expanded syntax code? M.K. 14:55, 27 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, this is the syntax. --Lysytalk 15:06, 27 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think more Lithuanian eyes are needed at Talk:Armia Krajowa where Sigitas is alone, discussing with 3 Polish editors. It's not a revert-war situation but some comments, particularly on Lithuanian sources (mostly unknown outside Lithuania) could be helpful. --Lysytalk 11:05, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

List of users[edit]

Hello there. Shouldn't we create a list of users that are allowed to add articles to the list? I thought that anyone is allowed to add them, but my latest addition had been reverted on sight with a comment accusing me of trolling. So, whom should I send the links to the articles I create with a plea to add them here? //Halibutt 09:49, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This here is on the verge of trolling, actually --Lysytalk 10:56, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
All right then, I withdraw my comment then. Yet, should Polish editors act the same way on the Polish list? //Halibutt 11:17, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It's a matter of taste, I think. May be to subtle to be discussed here. --Lysytalk 11:39, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think anyone can add articles to the list. But WP:POINT articles created clearly with the sole purpose of trolling do not deserve an announcement and (btw) should be speedied or corrected, when possible. --Irpen 23:37, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How should this article be named since we don't know her name... Any ideas? Renata 04:50, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Who came up with the current name? How is she reffered to in English academic publications?-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk  05:10, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
User:Bloomfield who likes weird and obscure spellings. The only way to call her is I know is Mindaugas' daughter. But that's not a good article name. Any ideas? Renata 05:16, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure if we should invent new names. Maybe Mindaugas' daughter is still better. No good idea, though. --Lysytalk 07:06, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Redirected to House of Mindaugas as her article is destined to be a 2 line stub as nothing is known of her. Renata 03:26, 21 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

While we are discussing this, a similar problem concerns Jadwiga of Lithuania, who apparently was mostly known as Jadwiga, Jagiełło's daughter/Jadwiga, Jogaila's daughter. Any of those would be more correct that the current title, although I'd prefer Jadwiga (1408-1431) myself (dates are often used for disambigs and we won't have to quarrel about Jagiełło/Jogiala). Comments appreciated on article's talk page.-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk  17:02, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Project directory[edit]

Hello. The WikiProject Council has recently updated the Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. This new directory includes a variety of categories and subcategories which will, with luck, potentially draw new members to the projects who are interested in those specific subjects. Please review the directory and make any changes to the entries for your project that you see fit. There is also a directory of portals, at User:B2T2/Portal, listing all the existing portals. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. It is my hope that all the changes to the directory can be finished by the first of next month. Please feel free to make any changes you see fit to the entries for your project before then. If you should have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you. B2T2 16:57, 25 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguate Lengvenis[edit]

Maybe you have any ideas how to disambiguate two Lengvenis: one is son of Algirdas, and the other is nephew of Mindaugas. We don't know their birth/death dates. As for the second one we don't even know father's name. I see two ways:

  1. Legvenis is a disambiguation page. Lengvenis, son of Algirdas and Lengvenis, nephew of Mindaugas → at least it's consistent
  2. Lengvenis is about Mindaugas' nephew and Lengvenis, son of Algirdas. No disambiguation page. → but Algirdas's son seems to be a bit more popular

Any other suggestions? Renata 02:56, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Priceless items[edit]

I have uploaded one part of priceless items, probably tomorrow I will finish uploading them. Until then, please enjoy these unique historical images:

PART II

Niiiice. Those are indeed priceless. Looking forward to the second part!-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk  01:00, 30 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

While waiting for the second part, Piotrus, please don't hold your breath. What would really make them "priceless" is if you allowed the picture of you in the żupan from your user page to be included. That might not only make them niiiicer, but definitely more "priceless". Would that be O.K., with you, P.P.? Dr. Dan 01:49, 30 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why not add your Alhambra picture from your userpage here instead? I think it's at least as nice as mine :) Although I am afraid neither one does really fit here... -- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk  01:55, 30 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the compliment (about the Alhambra picture), but you're right, neither of our pictures will probably be used by the Lithuanian WikiProject. Incidentally, do you think we should try to get away with putting the name of the Alhambra in Polish into the lead of its article? Since its very OT here, you can let me know on my talk page, if you care to. Best Dr. Dan 02:22, 30 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia Day Awards[edit]

Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 20:59, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As there was suggestion for FPC, I would choose these:

Any suggestion and commentaries are much welcome. M.K. 21:59, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The problem really is that they are under 1000px (which is a bare minimum required for FP) in both height or length :((... Is there any pic above that? Or maybe you could get one? :) Renata 04:28, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Titles of rulers of Federal parts of PLC[edit]

Titles of GDL and Crown rulers (and later of PLC) - does it not sound a bit odd, when King of Poland (as it is written in WP article) grants an university to Vilnius (non Poland Crown's heir, and already being a ruler of another subject of federation as a Grand Duke of Lithuania. These titles were separated until May of 3rd Constitution (and this "fast" edition lasted only until November). By this I mean, that King of Poland has no rights to assign any title any office or privilege in GDL. He only could do this a Grand Duke. All this misunderstanding is only because it was the same person:)So Šiauliai Uprisal was happening in Grand Duchy lands, not in Crown's. You probably know, taht no person from Crown could buy a land in GDL and Vice versa. Even king could not change that. ---Lokyz 22:53, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I think that writing "king of Poland" alone in such contexts is inappropriate. "Grand Duke" is better. The best would be "Grand Duke of Lithuania and King of Poland" as it was usually the same person, but this has the disadvantage of being long. Anyway, I'd use GDL+KP where relevant, and GDL or KP alone where the former would be too long or artificial. --Lysytalk 23:00, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
When we do speak about legal acts, let's better stay with the title that is appropriate - King of Poland, when we do speak about lands of Crown, and Grand Duke of Lithuania as we speak about Grand Duchy. These were two titles of separate and later semi-separate states and nations, at first connected only with personal union and even elected separate (later together, but to different "offices").
For explanation of these legal things you may want to read Juliusz Bardach research on the subject, he's one of the best known authorities on legal history.
And when we're talking about his majesty person, yes, without a doubt, both titles are to be used.--Lokyz 10:56, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Casimir Code[edit]

I found Casimir Code filed under Category:Legal history of Poland. Would someone mind adding some more information to improve this stub (e.g. which Casimir is it referring to, what is the relevance to Polish legal history)? Appleseed (Talk) 21:36, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Based on the date of reign and introduction of the code, the Casimir is most likely Casimir IV Jagiellon.-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk  22:04, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That makes sense :-). It would be nice to mention it in the article, but I don't have any sources to go by. Perhaps another editor is up to the task. Appleseed (Talk) 22:10, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I do doubt this Code has anything to do with legal History of Poland, it is argued that it was working on ly on Slavic lands of Grand Duchy - therefore I will remove Polish legal history category.--Lokyz 17:03, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bot and what?[edit]

Simple question, what should we do with articles found by bot. Here are my suggestions:

  1. Asses them and add to recent created articles list, and after that remove from the bot list, also remove irrelevant articles.
  2. Copy to the recent created articles list and leave them for good in bot list
  3. Do absolutely nothing:) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Lokyz (talkcontribs) 16:28, 7 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]
There should be some "master list" of all articles laid-claim-to by this project. Every article in this "master list" should have an assesment template on its talk page. Conversly, if an article has an assement template, then it is defacto a part of this project. Articles found by the bot (presumably listed as "Possible Lithuania-related articles") should be manually reviewed(?!), and an assement template added. Also: it would be nice to have a bot maintain a "recent activity" list, such as the bot used by Wikipedia:WikiProject Mathematics/Current activity. linas 01:23, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Some cleanup of the bot activity is needed, because for now it is ok, lthough it begins to clutter space, and the monthly list ceased to work.--Lokyz 23:15, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Plz help[edit]

Please help translate: 'šiandien mes gersim, rytoj ryliosim, o poryt vėl vortmaširuosim' My knowledge from childhood allows me to recognize only "Today we will drink, tomorrow we will <sing merrily>?, and day afrer tomorrow we will again ?<...> `'mikka 09:43, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A going to drink :) "Today we will drink, tomorrow we will sing (in this case meaning of "apdainuoti" don't know how to exactly translate to EN this one) and day after tomorrow we will again ??? ("vortmaširuosim" is this word do not misses any letters? especially for "vort" part (it can mean "eiti sargyba" guard); "maširuosim" means something to go keeping in step)". So could sound like this "Today we will drink, tomorrow we will sing (+-) and day after tomorrow we will again march to guard". M.K. 11:27, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Increasing number of Neo-nazis - the statement doesn't reflect reality[edit]

Greetings,

Wanted to ask on what grounds this passage got onto the Wikipedia? What are the information sources? Is it a personal encounter? In which case I am rally sorry about that, but then we should talk about the wider issue of being a foreigner in any country of the world. For example, I have lived in the United States and Italy for several years each and should say that I encountered differenet kinds of attitude: hostility and aggression was not an exception! So why Lithuania should get this kind of special treatment?

I believe the neo-nazis movement in Lithuania is limited to a few individuals and they are being dealt with by the local law enforcement.

In case it is decided to leave this passage, I insist that every country profile would be updated with similar information.

I think this kind of information gives the wrong impression of the country and actually has the positive effect on the same neo nazis who are proud that their one or two acts of violence got world wide acknowledgement.

from the Lithuania's profile: Increasing number of Neo-nazis. An increasingly bigger problem in the largest cities is the neo-nazi youth (often skinheads) uniformed with caps, black jackets with Lithuanian flags, camouflage trousers and military booths, known for beating up foreign tourists and other foreigners with a non-European ethnic appearance.

Barnstars...[edit]

Hi,

I sometimes enjoy making barnstars.

I could make one or two or three, of varying levels of complexity, for this WP if you so desire...

I could make a simple tri-colored one, similar to Image:BoNM - Romania.png, in about forty-five seconds. :-) I'd be happy to do that tonight or tomorrow.

A version with the coat of arms, similar to Image:BoNM - Lebanon3.png could take longer...depending on whether it was simply a copy/paste, or was modified/improved...

A fancy-schmancy barnstar, similar to Image:BoNM – Czech Republic.png, would take considerably more time...

I will make any and all of these barnstars without any regard to favors done in return...

However, if you wanna help me out :-) I am really looking for editors with FA experience to review Taiwanese aborigines — copyediting might be OK too, but only if you have exp. copyediting FAs, and would be willing to discuss changes before making them... In addition it might be a week or more before I would have time to start...

Let me know what you think! --Ling.Nut 00:09, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bilateral relations discussion[edit]

I would like to invite you all to participate in a discussion at this thread regarding bilateral relations between two countries. All articles related to foreign relations between countries are now under the scope of WikiProject Foreign relations, a newly created project. Cepelinai[edit]

The article on the culinary dish Cepelinai has been rated as a B by someone in this project and I just wanted to address that this may be highly inappropriate because the article is really a stub as per wikipedia guidelines. Magazines vs Journals[edit]

Category:Lithuanian journals and Category:Lithuanian Magazines seems to duplicate each other. which one should we leave, and one delete?--Lokyz 20:29, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox settlement[edit]

I think we need some infobox for settlements because Template:Infobox_Lithuanian_city is not enough, as articles on villages and towns started popping out. Besides the old infoboxes have a slight problem, as noted in few articles talk pages - it does not state country, that city is located in - while it may be abvious for Lithuanians, this is an English Wikipedia after all.

There is a gargantuan one default at Template:Infobox_Settlement but it is way too big.

In Lithuanian wiki there is lt:Šablonas:Ltgyv but simple porting of it could not fully use new tools here, on English wiki, like the pinup location dot {like for example in lt:Rykantai).

There are few examples to look at and learn some ideas: Template:Infobox_Australian_Place, Template:Infobox_Australian_Place/Blank and Template:Infobox_German_Location (this one German).

Cheers.--Lokyz 14:57, 25 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

They also desperately needs a place for representative photo. We talked about these issues in General Sandbox, there you also can see my proposed box for Vilnius [2].M.K. 18:55, 25 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Your suggestion is nice but I would like to stick to standard, just modifying it to our needs.--Lokyz 20:13, 25 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It can be new standard to all cities, only needs to agree that info it should hold. M.K. 20:25, 25 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, while we thought what to do action was taken [3]. Anyway we should decide what more information shoud be added to the infobox and also how to use the template on towns and villages.--Lokyz 15:15, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, |image_skyline = should be added for representative images, like in Vilnius. M.K. 16:44, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Besides is it not better to have parallel pic alignment of LT map and city's CoA? M.K. 18:10, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What are "regional parks" in Lithuania? Are they as described in our regional parks article - a park under the control of a local government body (as the regional parks of Italy)?
