Billboard.com relaunced

This is a message to everyone. Billboard.com has relaunched, so many of your references may have changed since your last visit. The same has applied to its sister site Billboard.biz. Additionally, I should mentioned that the methodology for the Latin Songs chart have changed. If anyone is having trouble, ask me or ask at WP:CHARTS. Erick (talk) 21:54, 26 January 2013 (UTC)

User actions

User DivaKnockouts (talk · contribs) have been tagging articles about Bachata with the Dominican Republic Wikiproject tag. Neither of them are about Dominican artists, have been composed by a Dominican composer, and most of them neither produced or recorded by a Dominican or in the Dominican Republic. Like I have ask the user in one of the articles, have all the Bachata-related articles related to the Dominican Republic? Is every Rap, Rock, Gospel or Country composition related to the US? No, they are not. I hope she can fix herself all this. Thanks, 18:50, 4 February 2013 (UTC)

Vital articles

There is a discussion occuring here regarding which music articles should be deemed vital to the Wikipedia project. Your input would be appreciated. GabeMc (talk|contribs) 21:53, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

A Latin music-related article up at FA

Seeking a name for an editathon devoted to Latin music

Hi folks, I'm planning an editathon devoted to Latin-American music in conjunction with the travelling Smithsonian exhibit American Sabor. The editathon will be held at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts in June. Neither I nor any of the other regulars involved with Wikimedia NYC are Hispanic or know Spanish well enough to come up with a catchy title for the event. So I'm wondering whether someone from here can propose something catchy enough that will attract the Latin-American community to attend the editathon and engage in editing Wikipedia. Thanks! -- kosboot (talk) 23:10, 26 April 2013 (UTC)

Sample names for previous editathons at NYPL have been: Wikipedia: The Musical, Wikipedia:Wiki-Gangs of New York, and Wikipedia:Wikipedia Goes to the Movies. -- kosboot (talk) 23:16, 26 April 2013 (UTC)
Hello! Thank for you letting us know! It is my pleasure to let you know that I would greatly like to help out on this ediathon! I will inform other active editors of this event. Thank you so much for letting us know about this! =) Erick (talk) 23:29, 26 April 2013 (UTC)
Does it have to be in Spanish or in English? Jonatalk to me 19:45, 28 April 2013 (UTC)
If it's pithy, it can be both, such as: Spanish title:English title. Once we find a title, we can announce it and start working on publicity, so I'm hoping for something. :) -- kosboot (talk) 01:33, 29 April 2013 (UTC)
Well how about something simple like "The Big Latin Music Editahon", "The Latin Music Big Editathon", "2013 Latin Music Edit War", "The Big Latin Musica Editahon", "Wikipedia's 2013 Latin Music Project", "Project: Latin Music", "The Big Latin Music Help", "The Latin Music Editathon Movement", "Los Amigos de Latino Musica"? That's all I can think of right now lolz. Best, Jonatalk to me 01:55, 29 April 2013 (UTC)

Wikipedia Visits Da Barrio? Wikpedia en el Barrio? ¡Wikipedia con Sabor!. Those are the top three in my head. :P — Preceding unsigned comment added by Magiciandude (talkcontribs)

Gosh, thanks for all the suggestions! I like ¡Wikipedia con Sabor! and maybe: Wikipedia: Los Amigos de Latino Musica. I'll put it before the people here and see what they say. -- kosboot (talk) 17:14, 29 April 2013 (UTC)

While we're on the subject, I might consider attending the event. After all, having an editor whose experienced with Latin music might help out right? Of course, I live in the South, so I'd have to plan ahead.

I'll try to let everyone know as soon as I can have a date set. I'll also try to propose remote editing - getting people to just put the info down, and let experienced editors decide how it should be incorporated into the articles. -- kosboot (talk) 20:42, 29 April 2013 (UTC)
Oh, here's a change to my idea: ¡Wikipedia Con Sabor Latino!. Based on a little suggestion from my mom. :P But yeah, I'm looking forward as to it as I enjoy mentoring editors here. Erick (talk) 20:50, 29 April 2013 (UTC)
Thanks very much people: the name selected was: ¡Wikipedia Con Sabor Latino! The announcement is already up on the library's website: ¡Wikipedia con Sabor Latino! or (easy to remember link) bit.ly/wikisabor - and eventually the NYC Meetup will have a page. Thanks so much! -- kosboot (talk) 16:27, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
Great! And since it's on a Saturday, I might be able to come. :) Erick (talk) 20:11, 10 May 2013 (UTC)

Vital articles that need editing

Many other projects have a "Article of the Month That Needs Editing" section where members of their project tackle the top 10 or 5 vital articles that are stubs, start, C-class and B-class and expanding them to GA or FA status. I believe we should incorporate, somehow, a section in WP:Latin music and select the top 10 articles we believe are our vital articles that should achieve GA and/or FA status before this year is over. I'm willing to take on new projects and expand my editing skills beyond just Selena. There are other deserving artists, albums, songs and music genres related to Latin music that should be at the top of our concern. Several months ago, or a little bit earlier than that, I pitched the idea of all of us working together to get Latin American music to FA status but that discussion wade and I hope this time around we can all pitch in and get our vital articles at GA/FA. Best, jonatalk to me 02:23, 4 May 2013 (UTC)

Here is what I believe our Top 10 articles should be (in no particular order):

  1. Latin American music
  2. Celia Cruz
  3. Gloria Estefan
  4. Enrique Iglesias
  5. Top Latin Albums
  6. Hot Latin Tracks
  7. Ricky Martin
  8. Shakira
  9. Jennifer Lopez
  10. Reggaeton (or Salsa music)

The proposal for a subsection on the Latin music project is for members who don't have a specific topic they wish to edit and for members who are willing to tackle on other topics, like myself. Secondly, I was thinking maybe add another subsection of current projects all members are working on with links to sandboxes for others to help out. Best, jonatalk to me 15:35, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

Oh, erm, I mean, I knew that. :P Erick (talk) 18:18, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
Yea, yea . So that's why I started a discussion rather than just revamping things around. I will transclude our discussion so others won't be confused. Best, jonatalk to me 20:26, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

Comments for this proposal are greatly appreciated! WikiRedactor (talk) 20:44, 23 May 2013 (UTC)

The redirect for Brazilian popular music

I think Brazilian_music#Popular_music would be more appropriate than Música Popular Brasileira. Cheers, 86.162.136.32 (talk) 15:48, 30 September 2013 (UTC)

You should probably take this to the Musica Popular Brasileria talk page. Erick (talk) 22:32, 4 October 2013 (UTC)

Wikipedia article on Lydia Mendoza

Dear Folks, I think the article on Lydia Mendoza should be amended to point out that on March 8, 2013, the United States Postal Service issued a Forever Stamp honoring Lydia Mendoza as part of its new Music Icon Series. 2001:558:6001:0:F892:D0C1:E67D:57F9 (talk) 21:32, 4 October 2013 (UTC)RebLem, aka Robert Baker, rb42@mail.com Sources: https://store.usps.com/store/browse/productDetailSingleSku.jsp?productId=S_579204&categoryId=subcatS_S_Commemorative http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lydia_Mendoza
