US Collaboration reactivated & Portal:United States starting next

Casliber recently posted a suggestion on the talk page for WikiProject United States about getting the US Wikipedians Collaboration page going again in an effort to build up articles for GA through FA class. See Wikipedia:U.S. Wikipedians' notice board/USCOTM. After several days of work from him the page is up and ready for action. A few candidates have already been added for you to vote on or you can submit one using the directions provided. If you are looking for inspiration here is a link to the most commonly viewed articles currently under the scope of Wikiproject United States. There are tons of good articles in the various US related projects as well so feel free to submit any article relating to US topics (not just those under the scope of WPUS). This noticeboard is intended for ‘’’All’’’ editors working on US subjects, not just those under WPUS.

The next item I intend to start updating is Portal:United States if anyone is interested in helping. Again this is not specific to WPUS and any help would be greatly appreciated to maximize visibility of US topics. The foundation has already been established its just a matter of updating the content with some new images, biographies and articles. Adding "Popular pages" to U.S.-related projects

A very interesting tool of the Wikimedia Toolserver is called WikiProject Popular pages lists. These lists are similar to project-related article lists like U. S. article lists used for generating assessment statistics. The Popular pages lists include the rank, total views, average daily views, quality and importance ratings for the listed articles. Here is the full list of projects using popular pages lists. An FAQ also is available at User:Mr.Z-man/Popular pages FAQ.

I recently added links to lists of popular pages as shown below to the U.S. Portal - WikiProjects box and the nominations sections for each of the selected articles boxes.

Because this project was not included, I am bringing up the popular pages tool here. This tool makes it very easy to track three of four balancing dimensions when selecting articles for showcasing at a portal - quality, importance and popularity. When tracking the fourth dimension, topic, the related article lists tool (such as for U.S. article lists tool) also might be useful by filtering on categories of interest.

If you do decide to use this tool, feel free to update Portal:United States/Projects/Popular pages as well.

Atlanta task force

I've have converted Atlanta WikiProject into a task force of the Georgia (U.S. state) WikiProject, since the Atlanta WikiProject is not getting much activity. I think its time to add |atlanta=yes and |atlanta-importance= parameter on the {{WikiProject Georgia (U.S. state)}} banner to get rid of the {{WikiProject Atlanta}} template. Any thoughts? Pageview stats

After a recent request, I added WikiProject Georgia (U.S. state) to the list of projects to compile monthly pageview stats for. The data is the same used by http://stats.grok.se/en/ but the program is different, and includes the aggregate views from all redirects to each page. The stats are at Wikipedia:WikiProject Georgia (U.S. state)/Popular pages.

The page will be updated monthly with new data. The edits aren't marked as bot edits, so they will show up in watchlists. You can view more results, request a new project be added to the list, or request a configuration change for this project using the toolserver tool. Please create an article on the subject of the Georgia militia district

I cannot find an article on Georgia militia districts, which are something similar to townships in other U.S. states. Here is a description, courtesy of the website for the Secretary of State of Georgia:

The organized Georgia Militia is dead, [but] the Georgia Militia Districts are very much alive and enter daily into the activities of all of our citizens in anything connected with

1. the territorial jurisdiction of Justice of the Peace Courts;
2. the boundaries of election districts;
3. the return of property for taxation;
4. stock and fence laws;
5. the conveyancing of land in headright counties; and
6. in all other circumstances specifically referred to in the laws of the Senate as presently codified.

A bit more can be seen at Talk:Georgia Militia and you can google more about the topic for some other sources. Does the topic get covered somewhere that I'm not aware of? If not, I'd like to encourage you all to create such an article. Does this wikiproject have a to-do list or a request-an-article process you use? Content dispute for Albany, GA

In the article on Albany, Georgia, User:Violeta123321 seems to believe that a report that says "have not's" "economically depressed area" makes it ok to say the area is "Long considered the city's ghetto".[1]. I believe this presumption and negative terminology is WP:OR on here part, particularly when she posted on my talk page that she lives in the city. Secondly, she wants to term a portion of the city the "red light district". Her first attempt at a source was a 1942 article talking about changes in the town due to new military presence. Now here attempt is based on a city ordinance that states any "sexually oriented business" must be in a specific area. The term "red light district" isn't used, nor does it even state that there actually ARE any such businesses, just that if there were any, they'd have to be in that zone. I believe that her assesment of the source is WP:SYNTH and WP:OR. Anyone else want to weigh in on the matter? Niteshift36 (talk) 20:31, 6 September 2011 (UTC)

Questionable article

A newly created article East Albany, Georgia seems dubious. The entire article appears to be a way to try to call East Albany a "ghetto" and seems to be a response to that info being challenged in the Albany, Georgia article and the AfD for List of subdivisions in Albany, Georgia. Pine Mountain range - page does not exist yet.

Pine Mountain is a prominent ridge in west Georgia. It is about 25 miles long and it runs west-to-east through Harris, Meriwether, and Talbot Counties, about 60 miles south-southwest of Atlanta. Elevations along the ridge are greater than 1100 feet over most of its length. These are the highest elevations at so southerly a latitude in the eastern half of the United States. Pine Mountain is 300-500 feet higher than the surrounding countryside, with steep flanks. The road from the ridge-top down into the town of Warm Springs is steep enough to require a runaway truck ramp. The highest elevation along the ridge, at Dowdell's Knob, is 1395 feet. Franklin Roosevelt had a brick barbecue pit built on this spot during one of his many stays at his house in Warm Springs. Proposal to add WikiProject Georgia (U.S. state) under WikiProject United States

Hello, I am a member of WikiProject United States, it was recently suggested that WikiProject Georgia (U.S. state) might be inactive or semi active and it might be beneficial to include it in the list of projects supported by WikiProject United States, which Kumioko and me have added some of the projects like WikiProject American television and WikiProject United States Government under the {{WikiProject United States}} banner. After reviewing the project it appears that there have not been any active discussion on the talk page in some time and the only content updates appear to be simple maintenance so being supported by a larger project might be beneficial. This discussion is intended to start the process of determining if the project members are interested in the project being added to the projects supported by WikiProject United States. Any thoughts? I would not like to see the WikiProject Georgia (U.S. state) group be added to the WP:USA group. Why? Because it will put more articles into the WP:USA realm that may seem to be small. I don't want to see it happen because I have worked on several hundred pages in this WP by adding them into the WP:Georgia group through hours of endless editing. I've run across a few states that have merged their state WP articles into the WP:USA branch. But I feel that is just tacky. Because people will mess up on the categorization of several articles throwing them into the WP:USA realm and they would not have the correct WP:state title. I know my argument or statement on this matter sounds one-sided but it's what I believe. I do wish that there were more active people in the WP:Georgia group....but we do the best we can do with who we have volunteering. Tamer_of_Hope talk 18:25, 5 November 2011 (UTC)

No problem, although I don't think that should not be confused with a country because the project should not pulled under WikiProject United States, like WP:CAL and WP:MONTANA, which are not very interested. Since this project does not wish to be supported by WikiProject United States I'll leave these suggestions here if anyone wants to take them for action.
