Assessment of Articles

I have just finished assessing the 80 or so articles that were in the unassessed list, i would invite anyone to review my assessments to ensure they are accurate. ZooPro 00:26, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

I was just wondering if you would be intersted in the discussion here? Simply south (talk) 00:30, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

WP 1.0 bot announcement

This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Your project does not need to take any action, but the appearance of your project's summary table will change. The upgrade will make many new, optional features available to all WikiProjects. Additional information is available at the WP 1.0 project homepage. — Carl (CBM · talk) 02:50, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

Templating related WikiProjects

Since ZooPro has not discussed it here, and not even announced it here:

User ZooPro is trying to collect status information from related WikiProjects. That might be a good idea, but he is doing it in a bad way. He is going around templating and giving orders to related projects such as WikiProject Fishes, and ridicules us when we ask what it is about and how it works. He claims to be doing this on the authority of WikiProject Animals. See my more detailed comments about this over at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Council#WikiProject Animals.

--David Göthberg (talk) 00:49, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

This discussion is taking place on the WikiProject Council Talk page. ZooPro 02:04, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
Furthermore this user is making a number of personal attacks against me as an editor as opposed to the issue he is claiming. Of all the editors that responded to the template he is the only one to make any sort of argument or have any problem every other editor understood what was being asked and had no problem with helping thier project. Though i should have known there would be at least one editor who did not "get it" I did not forsee the personal attacks i would have to endure from someone who has had this problem with multple other Projects this is a direct copy of his statement
-"I see this all the time, like people from WikiProject Mathematics every now and then come to WikiProject Cryptography and tries to boss around. (Which gets especially silly since maths is just a very small part of what cryptography is about.)"-
This in itself shows the bias this user has to parent projects, i find it disturbing that this user is attempting to undo/interupt an action designed and intended to assist the projects. ZooPro 02:37, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Task List Update

Just informing everyone on the project that i will be removing the articles that have been created from the "create" section and replacing them with three random articles from the Article Request list. This action is open to discussion and i would encourage you to discuss my actions on doing this and ensure that everyone is 100% okay with me changing the task list for February. ZooPro 12:07, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

I'm fine with it, though I think that something more like this or this would be a better sort of tasklist. —innotata (TalkContribs) 15:42, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
Looks good, i never made the original choice for the list so using one of those would be good. We need some more ideas for the Portal Pages too, no one has nominated any themes or articles. There is a few animal articles to be rated also. ZooPro 23:37, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
Yes, we have the more common type of tasklist, which can be found here. I created the other tasklist to be placed on user talkpages; once we find a more aesthetically pleasing method of delivering the task list, we can get rid of it. Intelligentsium 00:22, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
Why isn't that list easier to find? —innotata (TalkContribs) 00:53, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
Ah, I found it on the banner. I don't see it often, working on vertebrate articles. —innotata (TalkContribs) 00:55, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

I will do an update today if no one has any problems with that. ZooPro 04:44, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

Portal Nominations

I would encourage people to start nominating and selecting articles and themes for the Animals Portal or it will once again fall into an inactive status. I will be doing some maintanance on the portal in the coming days if anyone has a problem with this let me know. ZooPro 23:40, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Archiving Talk Page

Just informing everyone that i have archived some of the older threads on this talk page, They can be found in the archive box above. If anyone has any issues with me archiving please let me know. ZooPro 23:48, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Mussel ident

With the local lake (Google maps link) drying up it has given my the opportunity to photograph what has been on the lake. I've come across these ( 1, 2 and 3) freshwater mussels (sadly dead). I've tried searching but the best I've found is this site which isn't of much help. Bidgee (talk) 13:39, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

Binomial nomenclature move discussion

There is an ongoing move discussion regarding the Binomial nomenclature article here. Since this article seems to be an important part of this project, your views regarding the suggested move would be valuable there. ≈ Chamal talk ¤ 12:05, 18 March 2010 (UTC)

Macaca irus

Does someone at this project know whether Macaca irus is the same as Macaca fascicularis, or a subspecies, or something else? The World Health Organization uses the name M. irus in the description of monoclonal antibody sources. Thanks --ἀνυπόδητος (talk) 15:49, 31 March 2010 (UTC)

Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Primates would be a better place to ask. —innotata 19:50, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, I wasn't aware of that WikiProject. --ἀνυπόδητος (talk) 07:13, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

The military goat

I would greatly appreciate any assistance in improving the articel about William Windsor (goat), which I am hoping to move towards GA status. Many thanks in anticipation.  Chzz  ►  14:57, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

Notification regarding Wikipedia-Books

Hadronic Matter
An overview
An example of a book cover, taken from Book:Hadronic Matter

As detailed in last week's Signpost, WildBot has been patrolling Wikipedia-Books and searched for various problems in them, such as books having duplicate articles or containing redirects. WikiProject Wikipedia-Books is in the process of cleaning them up, but help would be appreciated. For this project, the following books have problems:

The problem reports explain in details what exactly are the problems, why they are problems, and how to fix them. This way anyone can fix them even if they aren't familiar with books. If you don't see something that looks like this, then all problems have been fixed. (Please strike articles from this list as the problems get fixed.)

Also, the {{saved book}} template has been updated to allow editors to specify the default covers of books (title, subtitle, cover-image, cover-color), and gives are preview of the default cover on the book's page. An example of such a cover is found on the right. Ideally, all books in Category:Book-Class animal articles should have covers.

If you need help with cleaning up a book, help with the {{saved book}} template, or have any questions about books in general, see Help:Books, Wikipedia:Books, and Wikipedia:WikiProject Wikipedia-Books, or ask me on my talk page. Also feel free to join WikiProject Wikipedia-Books, as we need all the help we can get.

Missing animal topics

I've updated my page of missing animal topics - Skysmith (talk) 13:14, 8 April 2010 (UTC)

Yes, I've put some effort into this—especially fishes. A lot of the things are misspellings. —innotata 14:29, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
I'm assuming the request for "echocolation" is really supposed to be echolocation, for which a reasonable article has already been started. MeegsC | Talk 17:19, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
For some of these I've created redirects, with or without tags, but most I've just removed from the list. —innotata 00:09, 9 April 2010 (UTC)
Thank you - Skysmith (talk) 08:53, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

unknown image

File:Unknown pede-like thing.jpg

Anyone know what this is? I don't even know what Class it's in! - UtherSRG (talk) 13:46, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

Can you give some background information? Geographic location, habitat, scale (i.e., how long), just to start. I would say that it is in the class Chilopoda, though at this resolution some of the distinguishing features (most notably the number of legs per segment) are difficult to make out. Intelligentsium 22:41, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
I believe in the Boston area. I'll find out from my friend... she posted it on her Facebook page. - UtherSRG (talk) 22:58, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
It's almost assuredly a member of Nereidae, very probably Nereis_virens, the common sandworm, which is widely collected for bait throughout New England. Mokele (talk) 23:59, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
I had not considered that it might not be a myriapod, as the title implied. I had thought it might be a centipede of some sort, but Mokele's suggestion seems more plausible. My mistake. Intelligentsium 00:06, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

Awesome! Thanks! :D - UtherSRG (talk) 00:30, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

There's an ongoing discussion there about the capitalization of animal common names and what guidelines apply. postdlf (talk) 15:48, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

Carl Linnaeus assistance

Hello,

I am currently working on the Carl Linnaeus article to bring it to FA status (although GA will be the first goal). Many improvements have been made already but there is a lot to do still. Basically everything except the Biography section needs an overhaul.

Linnaeus is an important part of this wikiproject and I am wondering if there are anybody here who would like to assist me in bringing it to FA status with me (or just do some editing)? If you are, you're more than welcome to contact me on my talk page or Carl Linnaeus talk page.

Thanks, Esuzu (talkcontribs) 12:29, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

Pictures of cnidaria

Hi all.

Is possible to request pic for the cnidarians article? See thing is, I want to see a picture of an animal in the medusa and polyp stage. I mean, the drawing is great and I know what a polyp and medusa looks like (ya kno, the ol' sea anome(sic) and jellyfish), but I really want to see a pic of 1 animal in the polyp and medua stage. I dunno, just to help me connect the two in my mind. It could replace the drawing...75.72.219.104 (talk) 02:21, 6 June 2010 (UTC)

Help with photographs

Following a my reply to a question at RSN from User:Frugivore (talk), he has decided to upload a large number of his photographs of Maylaysian flora and fauna, but as you can see from the discussion at my talk page, he is very new to Wikipedia and also needs some help in identifying the fauna (his expertise is flora). Can anyone here give him some help and encouragement, and perhaps some advice on batch uploading - I know that it's better to have a descriptive filename for each image, but other editors won't be able to identify the subjects until the images are uploaded – any advice? I really don't want to discourage him from contributing the photographs, simply because he may find the procedures too complex. --RexxS (talk) 12:58, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
