This course critically examines the nature, role, and significance of new communication technologies in contemporary (largely) U.S. culture. It considers the relationship between these technologies and popular conceptions of work, leisure, art, knowledge, identity, and environment and thus provides a foundation for understanding the nature, role, and significance of new communication technologies as a dynamic factor in society. Students will be editing (or creating) entries on some of the authors whose work we read as well as articles related to course topics.

Welcome to your Wikipedia assignment's course timeline. This page guides you through the steps you'll need to complete for your Wikipedia assignment, with links to training modules and your classmates' work spaces.

Assignment - Signing up and getting started

By the end of our first week of classes (or by the end of the grace period) everyone should have a Wikipedia account and complete this first training module. Create an account and join this course page, using the enrollment link your instructor sent you. Because of Wikipedia's technical restraints, you may receive a message that you cannot create an account. To resolve this, first contact the Wiki Ed staff (see WikiEdu Home page) to find out what happened. You ma need to try again using a different internet connection or the next day. If you use a VPN I may need to set up an account for you. Please contact me EARLY to arrange this, but contact the Wiki Ed staff first to confirm what the problem was.
