DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The road owned by the Morgantown and Kingwood, 47.89 miles, was acquired by construction and by purchase.

Of the four corporations that comprise the line of succession culminating in the Morgantown and Kingwood as at present constituted, only one corporation, the Cheat Valley Railroad Company, owned any common-carrier property. About 5.43 miles of road extending from Rowlesburg to Stoer was acquired by purchase from the latter company who had constructed it during the period 1897 to 1903. About 45.06 miles of road, extending from Morgantown to Stoer, including branch lines from Rock Forge to Richard, and from Fulmer to Fulmer Mines, was constructed by the Morgantown and Kingwood during the period 1899 to 1908. It was not determined whether the construction was performed by this company's own forces or by contract. The abandonment of about 1.78 miles reduced the recorded mileage to 48.71 which was 0.82 mile more than the inventoried mileage at date of valuation. Further details are given in the accounting report.
