The railroad of Linville River Railway Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track narrow-gauge steam railroad located in the northwestern part of North Carolina. The owned mileage extends southeasterly from Cranberry to Pineola, N. C., a distance of 12.794 miles. The carrier also owns yard and side tracks totaling 1.456 miles. Its road thus embraces 14.250 miles of all tracks owned. In Appendix 1 will be found a general description of the property of the carrier.


Corporate history.—The carrier was incorporated on August 29, 1899, under the general laws of North Carolina. It is indirectly the successor of the Linville River Railroad Company, whose property, rights, and franchises were purchased from Isaac T. Mann on September 22, 1899. The Linville River Railroad Company was incorporated July 30, 1896. The principal office of the carrier is at Johnson City, Tenn. The detailed facts as to the development of the fixed physical property are given in Appendix 2.
