The railroad of the Columbia & Cowlitz Railway Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track, standard-gage, steam railroad, located within the State of Washington. The main line extends northerly from Columbia Junction, near Longview, to Ostrander Junction, a distance of 8.487 miles. The carrier also owns 0.553 mile of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 9.040 miles of all tracks owned and used. The railroad of the carrier was completed as of date of valuation but was not opened for operation until January 1, 1929. However, for the purpose of this report, its common-carrier property is classified as owned and used on date of valuation. This is an industrial railroad controlled by the Weyerhaeuser Timber Company, owners of a large sawmill at Longview, Wash., and extensive timber holdings in this region which will eventually be served by the carrier.
