The railroad of the Asphalt Belt Railway Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track, standard-gage, steam railroad, located in the southern part of Texas. The main line extends in a westerly direction from a connection with the railroad of the San Antonio, Uvalde & Gulf Railroad Company at Asphalt Belt Junction, near Pulliam, to Dabney, a distance of 17.955 miles. The carrier also owns 6.510 miles of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 24.465 miles of all tracks owned and used. The carrier is controlled by the New Orleans, Texas & Mexico Railway Company and its railroad forms a part of the Gulf Coast Line system. Its property is operated for the carrier by the San Antonio, Uvalde & Gulf Railroad Company, as agent.

Prior to the acquisition of control of the carrier by the New Orleans, Texas & Mexico Railway Company in November 1926, the property of the carrier was operated by its own organization. Since that date, it has been operated by the San Antonio, Uvalde & Gulf Railroad Company, as agent for the owners, without formal agreement.

CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated June 9, 1923, under general laws of Texas, to construct and operate a line of railroad in Zavala and Uvalde Counties, Tex. It was organized June 25, 1923.

The road, all owned. 17.955 miles, extending from Asphalt Belt Junction to Dabney, Tex., was acquired by construction between July 20, 1923, and January 1, 1924, when it was placed in operation. The carrier was authorized to operate its road in interstate commerce by us August 24, 1926 (111 I.C.C. 698).
