Wikipedia:WikiProject Dictionary of National Biography/Volume of the Month
This is the main project page for "Volume of the Month" (VoTM) for the Dictionary of National Biography (DNB). The idea is to choose a new volume every month, among those for which the Wikisource sister project has posted the complete text of the biographies, and to improve the situation here for that particular volume, as much as can be done in the time. Which will be more a matter of "hitting the highlights" than finishing up; but with tracking pages, a survey of the whole business will gradually grow up.
This page will serve as task list, and index to the VoTM pages.
Task list[edit]
This is extensive, but covers the different situations for a given DNB biography: (a) no article here corresponds, so the first task is to create one; (b) the article exists here, but requires expansion from stub class; (c) the DNB text or equivalent is present here, but upgrades of various kinds are needed.
A: Article creation[edit]
- A1: Create the article here, for example by following the Walkthrough;
- A2: Check the DNB templates on the article are standard;
- A2: Search the site to create inbound links. Any article requiring disambiguation should be linked from a disambiguation page (subject to WP:TWODABS on hatnotes).
B: Expanding an existing article[edit]
- B1: Preliminary copy edit, particularly for sections and logical flow, will help expansion;
- B2: Add DNB text selectively, using {{cite DNB}}.
C: Upgrading[edit]
- C1: Pay attention to any existing tags or Talk page comments;
- C2: Wikify and check existing links, paying attention to correcting the target and disambiguation;
- C3: Basic fact check if possible (particularly with the ODNB if accessible);
- C4: Check for existence of portraits.
