Raymond Leane c. 1919

Brigadier General Sir Raymond Lionel Leane, CB, CMG, DSO & Bar, MC, VD, JP (1878–1962) was an Australian Army officer who was twice decorated for gallantry and wounded three times during the Gallipoli campaign of World War I, and temporarily commanded the 11th Battalion before the Australian force was withdrawn to Egypt. Appointed to command the 48th Battalion, he led it in fighting on the Western Front from 1916 to 1918 before being placed in command of the 12th Brigade for the final battles of the war. For his performance as a commander, Leane was described by the Australian Official War Historian, Charles Bean, as "the foremost fighting leader" in the Australian Imperial Force. He was also called "the head of the most famous family of soldiers in Australian history". During the war, four of his brothers and six of his nephews served, with two of his brothers and two of his nephews being killed. After the war, he served as Commissioner of the South Australia Police from 1920 to 1944, for which he was knighted. (Full article...)

  • Reasons for nomination: June 25 is the anniversary of his death, I acknowledge that this is my second nom in June, but think the different subject ameliorates that to some extent.

  • Support This seems a fine article to me, and I see no reason why it being the nominator's second in the month should effect the decision. Gog the Mild (talk) 10:28, 21 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Question: why not on the anniversary of his birth which is only weeks later. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:17, 18 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - no problem with either date or two noms in a month. Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 23:02, 18 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support, prefer birthdate, have no problems with two noms in a month as long as it's only occasionally for any nominator, and for good reasons. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:15, 19 May 2019 (UTC)]] by Wehwalt (talk) 18:18, 19 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
