Best way to extend shelf life of guacamole?[edit]

I’m thinking about adding pickle brine. Will this keep it fresher longer in the fridge or freezer? Viriditas (talk) 02:14, 6 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Viriditas. Internet sources that appear to have some credibility recommend adding lemon juice or lime juice to the surface of the stored guacamole, which are obviously acidic and fit in with Mexican cuisine. Pickle juice is also acidic so it may work just as well. The main factor is to minimize air exposure, so cover the guacamole with plastic wrap pushed down onto the surface, or put it in a zip-loc bag with all the air squeezed out. Yes, I’ve gone the lemon juice route before and it did add a few extra days of freshness. Just wondering if there was a newer way to go. Viriditas (talk) 02:41, 6 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Or, you can freeze it for six months. My personal recipe [ Original research? ] includes lime juice as well as sour cream (the lactic acid in sour cream helps prevent oxidation). 136.54.99.98 (talk) 04:21, 6 June 2023 (UTC) ... Ps, cilantro acts as a preservative;[1] more is better![reply]
Thanks. I have noticed the preservative properties of cilantro, but never could explain it. Interesting . Viriditas (talk) 08:10, 6 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Using avocados that are just ripe enough to be mashed buys you a day or two. Pickle brine should work (at least in theory), but if you know in advance you are going to store the guacamole in the fridge for later use, leave out the lime juice and salt when mashing and instead pour these over the mash in the container before storing in the fridge. Gently shake the container twice a day to make sure the surface remains covered by the liquid. After taking the pre-prepared guacamole out, mix well. If you have more avocados than you can use, you can put the avocados in a closed freezer bag and freeze them whole.  --Lambiam 07:59, 6 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Good advice. I will give that a try. Thanks. Viriditas (talk) 08:08, 6 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If you are really into saving foods, invest in a nitrogen sealer. It preserves just about everything because it forces all oxygen out of the packaging, keeping it from spoiling anytime soon. A nitrogen seal is how guacamole packs in the store can sit on the shelf for weeks on end and not go bad. But, open them just a crack and it will be black goop in a day. 12.116.29.106 (talk) 10:54, 6 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Goooo...gle has disappeared[edit]

Has the Goooo...gle "element", which was a shortcut to more pages of the searched term, disappeared? I haven't seen it for a few days, and instead I see "More results" and an arrow. --40bus (talk) 17:27, 6 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@40bus: i see it. lettherebedarklight晚安 10:33, 7 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It's gone for me right now. - AquilaFasciata (talk | contribs) 18:24, 7 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Also missing for me. --User:Khajidha (talk) (contributions) 20:53, 7 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
When I search from the US, I just see   More results      . But when I use a vpn connection based in the EU, I see, for the same search, Gooooogle .  --Lambiam 12:36, 8 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Update: The Goooooooogle image shows up when i am on my laptop, but not when i am on my phone. --User:Khajidha (talk) (contributions) 04:29, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
