November 25[edit]

solving[edit]

i to know how to solve this: "f=((x+y)/2)+(w*|x-y|)" thanks, 70.114.242.17 (talk) 12:09, 25 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The equation defines a function: f, of three varables: x, y, w. There is nothing to solve. Bo Jacoby (talk) 19:15, 25 November 2013 (UTC).[reply]
Possibly the solution is (x + y)/2 + w×|x − y| = 0 ...? --CiaPan (talk) 09:57, 26 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

sorry, forgot to specify. i want to solve for x, where f y and w are known. and f is for final. 70.114.242.17 (talk) 11:21, 26 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Split the task into halves: for x≥y you have |x−y|=x−y, for x≤y it's |x−y|=y−x. Then you have two equations with unknown x, one in each of two subdomains, solve them and merge results. --CiaPan (talk) 12:04, 26 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
