2005 & 2006 cancellation of the Toru Takemitsu Composition Award[edit]

Why was the Toru Takemitsu Composition Award cancelled in 2005, and why did it not happen at all in 2006? Aza24 (talk) 19:12, 2 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

There are answers on the page in the Japanese Wikipedia. The automated google translate version says for 2005 "Canceled because judges cannot come to Japan." and for 2006 "Ten years after the death of Toru Takemitsu, the composition award was suspended due to the implementation of the special project "Toru Takemitsu ─ Visions in Time"." As an amusing addendum, I perused the article and noticed that the first of the two wikilinks for John Adams went to the article for the 18th century American President! I have corrected it to John Adams (composer) and confirmed from a source (linked on the talk page) that it is he, not the other American composer John Luther Adams, who was the judge in question.

I haven't been able to find any reason for his inability to attend in 2005. There are many possibilities, for example illness, but I do notice that Adams' monumental work Doctor Atomic premiered on 1 October 2005, so it may be that commitments to this prevented a foreign excursion. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.208.88.97 (talk) 09:01, 4 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
