August 11[edit]

Is this Rita Braver?[edit]

Rita Braver?

The photographer identified the subject of File:Rita Braver 2 (48426333077).jpg and File:Rita Braver 1999 (48426191236).jpg as Rita Braver (born in 1970). The photographs are from 1999, when Braver was 29. I am not sure if the subject resembles Braver on other photographs available on the Internet, but she definitely looks older than 29. What do you think? Who is the woman in the photographs? Surtsicna (talk) 11:57, 11 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The infobox says 1970 but the article says 1948, and the rest of the information in the article seems to support that (assuming she didn't get married when she was 2 years old!) Adam Bishop (talk) 12:03, 11 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Ugh. Thanks for noticing. So it could be Braver. I am not particularly good at discerning faces so I simply cannot tell if it's the same person as in the other photographs online. Surtsicna (talk) 12:06, 11 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
See prosopagnosia for an explanation as to why some people have difficulty discerning faces. Eliyohub (talk) 14:41, 11 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, but before we settle on a diagnosis, can you tell me whether you can tell whether the woman in these pictures is the same as the one in these pictures? :D Surtsicna (talk) 15:37, 11 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I've never heard of Rita Braver before today, but for what it's worth, she certainly looks like the same person to me. Adam Bishop (talk) 00:13, 12 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Good enough for me! Thanks, Adam Bishop Surtsicna (talk) 23:35, 14 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
It very well could be Rita Braver, who I'm sure was born well before 1970. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 14:58, 11 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
"Could be" is all I've got too, besides the photographer's identification. I suppose I can readd it and hope that someone will correct it if it is not Braver after all. Surtsicna (talk) 15:37, 11 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Which Salt Lake 2002 medallist is this?[edit]

Who am I?

Another ID request. We have this photograph of a man wearing a medal from 2002 Winter Olympics. I have gone through the list of 2002 Winter Olympics medal winners but could not identify the subject. The photograph labelled it as a photo of Alan Webb (runner), but I think we can safely rule that out. Surtsicna (talk) 13:13, 11 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Not 100% sure (and I found no other picture of him wearing earrings), but I think it's Joey Cheek, bronze medal winner of men's 1000 metres in speed skating. ---Sluzzelin talk 16:07, 11 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, on this picture from 16 Feb 2002 he's wearing the earrings too. ---Sluzzelin talk 16:33, 11 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Compare File:Joey Cheek skating.JPG, taken 2006. Both "Alan Webb" and this photo have the same general appearance, same earrings, same little dots under the nose side of his right eye, same mark on the right side of his nose. Nyttend backup (talk) 16:13, 14 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Really looks like it's Cheek. (Pinging Surtsicna in case they forgot about this thread. ---Sluzzelin talk 16:59, 14 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Cheek it is! Thank you all! Surtsicna (talk) 23:35, 14 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Improve this article: Alexander Vasilyevich Alexandrov[edit]

Hi guys,

This person doesn't have a "box" on the right with all the main details about his life. Does anyone knows how to add one? Ericdec~enwiki (talk) 14:42, 11 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I think that article is perfectly fine without an infobox. It is too short for an infobox to be of any use, since all the key facts are visible at a glance. Surtsicna (talk) 15:28, 11 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
There is a specific guideline about not using an infobox that will have minimal info in it. Unfortunately, I never remember the shortcut to get to it. If anyone else does please mention it here so I can copy it to a sandbox. MarnetteD|Talk 00:30, 12 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The essay WP:DISINFOBOX? Clarityfiend (talk) 08:24, 12 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
That is it Clarityfiend. Thanks for adding the link AND for mentioning that it is an essay rather than a guideline. MarnetteD|Talk 23:10, 12 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
