Top Gun: Maverick quote: Ed Harris about obsolete pilots who eat, sleep, piss...[edit]

To my surprise, I have failed to find the Ed Harris quote from Top Gun: Maverick about obsolete pilots who eat and sleep and piss and (dis)obey orders. Quoted on the web, it is usually restricted to its final:

Rear Admiral: The end is inevitable, Maverick. Your kind is headed for extinction.

Maverick: Maybe so, sir. But not today.

Only having seen the German translation, maybe I have searched for the wrong words and Google algorithms failed to identify. Is the quote written anywhere? Or does anyone remember it, fairly literally? --KnightMove (talk) 08:16, 16 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I searched for "Top Gun: Maverick transcript", and found it - supposedly. Here is some random site, not in any way a reliable source, with what looks like the Top Gun: Maverick film script. The quote is:

This is not a joke. I asked you a question.

I'm where I belong, sir.

The Navy doesn't see it that way. Not anymore. Those planes you're testing, Captain... Someday soon there will be no need for pilots at all. To the pilots who need to sleep, eat, pee. To the pilots who disobeyed orders. All you did was buy those guys out there some time. But the future is on its way. And you are not in it. Best to send these guys from base. Take to headquarters. Say goodbye to them while you pack your things. I want them on their way to Northern Ireland in an hour.

FWIW "Northern Ireland" here is a mishearing of "North Island", as in Naval Air Station North Island. As such I would take this transcript with a grain of salt, as it may be machine generated. Pinguinn 🐧 23:52, 22 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
