Frequency of dead heats in sport[edit]

Hello. I am currently working on a userspace draft of an article about dead heats in sport. I would like to include a section on the relative frequency of dead heats. I know these vary between sports. Is anyone able to find citeable source(s) giving the approximate frequency of dead heats in one or two sports? Ideally I'd like to be able to say something like: Dead heats are very rare occurrences. The frequency of dead heats vary between sports, depending on the typical variance in performances and the precision of the technology available. In <sport A>, approximately 1 in XXXX races result in dead heats for first place,<<citation>> whereas in <sport B> this occurs in approximately 1 in XXXX cases.<<citation>> As technology has improved, the frequency of dead heats has declined.<<citation>> --LukeSurl^{t c}

One thing you should consider is that in sports where a photo finish is used, dead heats are almost (but not quite) impossible. Obviously, this technology is not available in circumstances where participants race consecutively, like yesterday's bobsleigh final at the Olympics which resulted in a dead heat down to the 100th of a second. --Xuxl (talk) 19:16, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Video "photo finishes" are perfectly possible in such races; you simply film all of the races and run the films simultaneously to see when the first one crosses the line. The sport doesn't currently use such technology, but you could do so in Bobsleigh if you decided to. --Jayron 32 12:02, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If you're asking regular season's dead heat:

according to CPBL. only ONE occasion of dead heat after regular season: 1st half of 2005,Makoto Cobras (disbanded in 2008) and Sinon Bulls (now Fubon Guardians) has the same winning percentages after conclusion of 1st half(CPBL use winning Percentages as the criteria of standing) . Since there's no clear winner for 1st half, one game playoff at neutral ground is held to decide the winner and a spot of playoff.

If you're asking racing:

MotoGP has 1. Two finisher reached the finish line in the same time.
