Musical work[edit]

Please help identify a piece of music I once knew. It's classical, pretty certain it's 20th Century. It's for orchestra & voices - possibly an opera, but I think more an oratorio. Language is German. There is a falling passage at one point where a male voice (I think bass, but could be tenor) sings: "...(2-syllable, probably adjective) ist das Leben, ist der Tod." 1980's movie about the Statue of Liberty[edit]
