March 1[edit]

Why there is no "box" on the right with "date of birth, date of death, place of birth", etc? Like other Wiki articles? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.111.224.71 (talk) 09:46, 1 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Because no one has added it? Every bit of text at Wikipedia exists because someone decided something was missing, and then added it themselves. If you would like to add such a box, you can find instructions for using them at Help:Infobox. --Jayron32 09:52, 1 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
As Jayron32 said, these boxes are called infoboxes. There was a discussion about whether an infobox should (or should not) be included on the Kubrick article; the discussion finished with a decision to remove (or leave out) an infobox on the page as it gave no value to the page—the administrator who closed the discussion said including an infobox would be "an infobox for the sake of adding one. It adds nothing of value to the article and it looks far better without one." matt (talk) 11:04, 1 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
unhelpful side discussion --Jayron32 15:34, 2 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The following discussion has been closed. Please do not modify it.
Forcing the reader to read the entire article hardly qualifies as "user-friendly". ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 02:14, 2 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
If you want to re-visit the debate, do so @ Talk:Stanley Kubrick. If you're just having a whinge, please desist. -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 03:57, 2 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Complain to the one who brought it up. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 05:02, 2 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
You did. -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 05:24, 2 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I did complain to the one who brought it up. However, the OP is being told (1) go ahead and get autoconfirmed and you could add the infobox; and (2) don't add the infobox because it will get deleted. A fine introduction to the peculiar workings of Wikipedia. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 05:41, 2 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Consensus decisions can be overturned. It's happened many times. But there needs to be an appropriate discussion, in an appropriate place. You came in arguing why a user box is OK. That belongs in a discussion about whether to have an infobox, or not. Not here. -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 06:22, 2 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The OP is the one who should go to that page and argue for it. Then he'll find out he Wikipedia "works". ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 09:59, 2 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
So what was the point of your first intervention in this thread, then? --Viennese Waltz 10:14, 2 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed. Closing it. --Jayron32 15:34, 2 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
