April 20[edit]

outlander[edit]

I'm a Newfoundlander and for Canadians we had a chance to enter a contest that my have won us a trip to Scotland but for our province that was impossible because they never took into consideration our time zone difference. each sunday for three sundays in a row we had to find a secret work and I have done so but on this sunday when the work came across the page , I went to my computer and typed in the work and it said sorry our contest is now closed.do showcase tv know this happened. I tried to write them but found nothing.

That's most unfortunate, but there's nothing we can do about that at Wikipedia. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 14:29, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Just to give you some feedback: You leave out all relevant details, so there's no way of telling, but in my experience, contests, online-events, etc. that are held internationally, or across a country with different time zones usually give the relevant time zone with the date and time, e.g.: "no later than 5:00 p.m. (EST)"; when there is a deadline at Wikipedia (to cast your "!vote" on something, for example), the reference is usually Coordinated Universal Time ("UTC"), for example "Scheduled to end 01:23, 21 April 2015 (UTC)", or see also the signatures in this thread). Are you certain the organizers of the contest were the ones not taking different time zones into consideration? (Not assuming anything, just want to make sure you can rule that one out :-). ---Sluzzelin talk 22:01, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Newfoundland Time is the easternmost time zone in Canada. If for example you had to enter by 6 pm but they meant 6 pm in some other Canadian time zone, that time would be later than 6 pm by your local time. For example 6 pm Eastern Time is 7:30 pm Newfoundland Time. So if the contest was closed, I don't think it was because of time zones. --65.94.49.82 (talk) 23:34, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Good news! You have another chance: http://contests.showcase.ca/outlandercontest/enter-contest/. Note rule #2 at http://contests.showcase.ca/outlandercontest/rules-regs/. ET = Eastern Time. —Nelson Ricardo (talk) 23:35, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
