March 31[edit]

"Oi Oi Oi" + Lee Nelson[edit]

There is a (British?) song used by the comedian Lee Nelson, but I am assuming it's also some sort of football stadium song (like "We Will Rock You" at NHL games in the US). Anyhow the song has a sort of catchy main them and when it gets to a certain part everyone goes "oi oi oi" while waving their arms/fist three times in a row. There is more to the song but it's a woman singing but then it loops around again... Anyone know what song I am talking about? I can't get it out of my head... I have a reference question (talk) 00:08, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The one that immediately comes to mind is the song "Sospan Fach" by the Welsh comedian Max Boyce, who uses it himself as a theme tune and has been adopted, mainly by Welsh teams, for a sports setting. --TammyMoet (talk) 07:47, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
There's another one which seems to be used almost exclusively in the UK in the darts. I've never known what that one is though, can anyone else help? --TammyMoet (talk) 11:37, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
"Chase the Sun" by Planet Funk. Nanonic (talk) 11:48, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you - I think OP will find that's what he's looking for. --TammyMoet (talk) 14:25, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You're right! That's the song. "Ta" I have a reference question (talk) 01:19, 1 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Rebecca Black[edit]

Just curious: Why is "Friday" by Rebecca Black not on YouTube's most watched videos of all time list? It has enough views to be on page 5 by now (and will keep on climbing), but it's nowhere to be found. (If it matters, I'm from the US.) ~EdGl! 00:47, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It was removed from Youtube by her record label on 29 March.[1] Nanonic (talk) 11:53, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I don't get it... this video has 70+ million views, so it should be on the most viewed list, right? The link says that the video was uploaded by trizzy66 on Feb 10, 2011 (so it doesn't seem like a re-upload), and the user account seems to be the record label's official channel... ~EdGl! 05:51, 1 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Child's Play novel[edit]

I am trying to find a book I read when I was a kid. I am pretty confident the title was "Child's Play" because I picked it up from a used bookstore because I thought it was about the films (which we're popular at the time). But it wasn't. It was about a family. There was a man named Alex, who was married to a woman. They didn't have children, so they "adopted" children of assorted ages, including some teenagers. Alex was very charming, yet manipulative, and the children come to worship him in a creepy Manson-family kind of way. Alex's wife is pretty much the main character, as it is written from her perspective. The main conflict is that she is frightened by the growing relationship between her husband and the children, and fears they are going to turn against her. I'm pretty sure it is implied that Alex and the children are involved in murders and other such activities. Anyway, I know I am leaving some stuff out b/c it's been so long since I read it. Does any one have any ideas? This would've been published in paperback in the 80's...possibly late 70's. Thanks Quinn THUNDER 16:47, 31 March 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Quinn1 (talkcontribs) [reply]

I don't have a definitive answer, but assuming you're dead on with the title, a worldwide library catalog search for "Child's Play" published between 1965-1990 brought up these four possible authors:
  • Kate Christie
  • Sal Conte
  • Andrew Neiderman
  • J.J. Hooker
There are cover images for Christie and Neiderman on Amazon. Neiderman was cataloged as a Horror work, Hooker was cataloged as a Juvenile work. Hope this points you in the right direction, at least. --some jerk on the Internet (talk) 17:22, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Update It's Neiderman. See here. --some jerk on the Internet (talk) 17:25, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Amazing. Thank you! Quinn THUNDER 17:32, 31 March 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Quinn1 (talkcontribs) [reply]
You're quite welcome. That was a fun one. --some jerk on the Internet (talk) 17:53, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A Clint Eastwood Film title Please?[edit]

I really cannot believe that I can't recall this title - and still less that I can't find it in any filmographies. It is one of the westerns and Clint works with a guy called Shorty who has a price on him. Clint turns him in for the bounty then shoots the rope when he is hanged. This works OK till Clint gets interfered with at some point and Shorty hangs. This is only a minor side-plot of the main film but I can't find the film title. HELP!!?? Please. Gurumaister (talk) 17:19, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That is the opening plot of The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. -- kainaw 17:21, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Did shorty actually hang? I seem to remember a shot ringing out at the very end as he is cursing Clint Eastwoods character. Carson101 (talk) 17:25, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, Shorty gets it in the neck, so to speak. You're thinking of Tuco. Blondie strings him up at the end on a rickety something so that Tuco has to balance himself very carefully. Then, Blondie rides off, stops, and shoots the rope, sending Tuco tumbling (but alive) to the ground. Clarityfiend (talk) 17:58, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I've seen that film numerous times (though not for a while) and completely forgot that part of film. I even bought the soundtrack to the film when it first came out and still have it today. Only seems like yesterday. :) Carson101 (talk) 18:07, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I love the part where Tuco gets up and starts yelling at Blondie. Just when he gets to the good part, he gets drowned out by the theme music. Clarityfiend (talk) 22:27, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Oh Good Lord!!! I watched the opening of The Good, the Bad & The Ugly as part of my search - I obviously didn't watch far enough. Thank you and sorry for being so ddense!  :) Gurumaister (talk) 17:30, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I guess I should have stated that it is the second part of the opening. The opening introduces Angel Eyes. Then, it gets to Tuco and Blondie's story. Personally, my favorite part is right at the beginning when Angel Eyes tells Baker that once he's been paid to do a job, he always does the job. -- kainaw 18:13, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Number 1 song[edit]

which band had a number 1 song, That was the name of the band, also the name of the album? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 166.216.194.192 (talk) 20:17, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Added heading. There's been a number of bands with self-titled albums which had number 1 ranked (by some ranking agency) songs. You'll have to provide more details, unless you mean that the band and/or the album is titled Number 1 song. -- 140.142.20.229 (talk) 21:08, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Seems pretty obvious to me, he's asking for a no.1 song that was the title track off of an eponymously titled album. --Viennese Waltz 21:11, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The only one that I can think of as a possibility would be: The song "Bad Company" from the album Bad Company by the band Bad Company. I have no idea what its chart position was on any of the multitude of music charts when it was popular... --Jayron32 21:28, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Another one I just thought of, though I don't think it ever charted, is "Black Sabbath" from the album Black Sabbath by the band Black Sabbath. --Jayron32 21:31, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That makes sense, now that you point it out. In that case, one option is to go through various List of number-one hits and see if any eponymous songs are listed. Looking through List of number-one hits (United States), I didn't find any back to 2000. The closest I can find on List of number-one singles (UK) back to 2000 is "It's Chico Time" by Chico, which was released as a multi-track single entitled "It's Chico Time". -- 140.142.20.229 (talk) 22:39, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
In the UK charts there was Doop by Doop (band) on the album Circus Doop and there was Mr Blobby (song) but that wasn't on an album. Don't know anything similar in the US or other country's charts. meltBanana 00:37, 1 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
"Bo Diddley" by Bo Diddley? According to the article it reached number one on the R&B charts, but was was not released on an album so this only fulfils 2 of your 3 criteria. doomgaze (talk) 00:39, 1 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
For the UK, authoritative reference site Everyhit says that there have only been 2 eponymous UK number one singles (artist and title the same), Mr Blobby and Doop!.[2] Amazon lists a disc called "Mr Blobby - The Album"[3] which means Mr Blobby may qualify. --Colapeninsula (talk) 09:24, 1 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Except that Mr. Blobby wasn't a band, he was a large pink blob covered with yellow spots. Ghmyrtle (talk) 22:04, 1 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
A lot of bands look like that after you've partken in recreational drugs. Corvus cornixtalk 22:25, 1 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Living in a Box by Living in a Box from the Album Living in a Box seems to be the closest yet. Reached #5 in UK, #4 in Germany, #2 in Switzerland. Got to have been #1 somewhere. 81.159.121.108 (talk) 22:59, 1 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
