whats 4 other nz bands/singers who were contemporaries to split enz?203.184.35.184 (talk) 09:21, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The infobox in the Split Enz article lists the following "associated acts":
The {{Split Enz}} template adds:
As for "contemporaries", New Zealand had a late 70s punk scene with bands like Toy Love, The Clean, and Sick Things (who may have come later, I'm not sure). Most of these bands probably hated Split Enz. / edg 14:52, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Recent Italian Movie Question[edit]

Okay, I remember seeing this movie on the Sundance Channel in New Zealand when I was about ten or eleven years old (I'm sixteen now), but I can't remember the title. I *think* it's an italian movie, and it has a preteen/early teenage girl who *i think* works in a convent or something, or she might live in an orphanage, and she meets an older guy who *i think* has terminal cancer (although she doesn't know this). I remember, like, one line, i think they were both in the back of a pickup truck, and she got angry and said something about "wiping invalid's asses" and then asked him to promise to "marry her" - by "marry" she meant walk her down the aisle. I think that the older guy also beat up her abusive boyfriend on a cruise ship, or something. My memories are hazy.

If any of this rings a bell, information would be gladly received. It's driving me crazy that I can't remember this movie! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.220.242.162 (talk) 19:46, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The nationality of the film, and the dying guy made me think Jeremy Irons, and looking him up got me to Stealing_Beauty, which I believe is the one I was thinking of. I'm not certain about the rest of the plot details though. /Kriko (talk) 19:03, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

- OP here. It's definitely not 'Stealing Beauty' - the film is set in the city, not the countryside, if I recall correctly.

beeping vid tapes[edit]

heyup y'all the Jr manksters watch DVD's of their fav children's TV programmes, but recently they were given some video tapes by a neighbour whose child has out grown them (Brum, Postman Pat Bob The Builder etc) when i have played the tapes, at the very start, where there is a black screen and some technical looking jargon in white, we often hear a series of 'beeps' (just like a number being dialled on a telephone pad) what is it? ah thank you.Perry-mankster (talk) 21:59, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I cant say for sure but my bet is some sort of signal for automated broadcasting. I sometimes hear similar beeps on the radio late at night during advertisements and pre-recorded shows. 161.222.160.8 (talk) 23:12, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Also, it may be worthwhile to move this to Science or Misc or even Computing. That's where all the tech geeks hang out 161.222.160.8 (talk) 23:40, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds like you were given copies that were originally used for television broadcasting. The symbols and beeps are a form of calibration, so the station knows they're broadcasting the show as it's supposed to be seen. -- Kesh (talk) 01:36, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

thank you Rob —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.147.175.136 (talk) 23:55, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I replaced spaces prepended to the preceding message with colons, as the author was probably trying to indent. Hope no one minds. --superioridad (discusión)
Replacing or removing leading spaces is a kind and gracious act, and all you need do is put a note in the edit summary to say what you have done. SaundersW (talk) 16:16, 19 March 2008 (UTC) [reply]
I don't think this is the proper place to ask for support for other websites. Nevertheless, gracious and magnanimous human being that I am, I will direct you to the support link provided by the website itself, where you can inform the administrators of said website of the problem of invisible fields on their registration page. --superioridad (discusión) 06:12, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, silly me, that link doesn't work at all, and this one, which appears to be the correct address, requires one to log in, which is very silly if one is having problems registering. However, WHOIS provides an email contact that may be useful. --superioridad (discusión) 06:18, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
