Looking for a free tank simulator[edit]

Do anyone know of a good free tank simulator for the computer? One that doesnt have alot of system requirments would be nice. Thanks BonesBrigade 01:02, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

looking through Category:Tank simulation video games, it looks like Tanarus (computer game) is now free and highly rated. --— Gadget850 (Ed) talk - 01:58, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

neil young and chest fever[edit]

did neil myoung ever recoed the song "chest fever". Did it play on the radio? 209.89.123.19 (talk) 05:44, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have never heard anything of the sort. The closest I can ever remember Neil Young getting to Chest Fever is in The Last Waltz. He didn't perform on that particular song, but did perform other songs during the concert. -- kainaw 13:43, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

'Mono'[edit]

Do neighbors really have huge parties like those seen in the Malcom in the Middle eppisode Mono? If so, are there any communities known for having large parties like that? Or am I just searching for a suburban utopia that doesn't exist? --MKnight9989 13:31, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you want a large party, throw one. One of the largest problems with attempting to relate the television world to the real world is that the people on television rarely have real jobs. They do not strive to find better jobs. They do not have real bills or real debt. They do not have mortgages, car loans, student loans, hospital bills, etc... When they do, it is a recurring joke that is quickly forgotten or a plot device that is solved in under 30 minutes. So, if you live in a neighborhood where nobody has to worry about work or bills, then it is easy to find them all having big parties. -- kainaw 13:38, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I understand what you're saying. It's just in that episode all the neighbors seemed to get along fairly well and they threw parties every weekend. I was just wondering if commnunities like that actually existed. --MKnight9989 13:40, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It is possible, but not probable in my experience. I do not believe that humans in general can get along in groups. Put three people together and two of them will team up against the third. Add another person and you'll either get 3 on 1 or 2 on 2. Either way, you don't have peace and harmony. The only way to get all 4 of them to join together is to pit them against another group of people. Of course, you can throw a party and invite everyone. Free food and drink has been known to cause temporary peace. -- kainaw 13:46, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Haha. Yeah I guess you're right. It's a nice fantasy though.--MKnight9989 13:59, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
In the large group party style, there's the block party -- though that's often as much event-oriented as community-oriented. For a more community-driven party atmosphere, there's always a frat house (note that this may approach kainaw's "no work or bills" clause).
I grew up in a neighborhood like that. It wasn't party every weekend, but everyone would get together to hang out frequently when I was a kid. The thing was my parents had grown up with four other families on the block so they'd been partying together since adolescence, they just wanted us to all grow up the same way. If you want to live in a party neighborhood, move home. I garuntee there are some remnants of your childhood still livining there, you just gots to move into close proximity and, like Kainaw said, initiate some good times. We used to play baseball games in front yards, have mass grill outs in someone's driveway, it's just about getting familiar with your neighbors. Beekone (talk) 15:30, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
We once had a street party in South Africa, every one in our street was invited, although some chose not to attend, we obtained permition from the council, and closed the road for that night and day, and just partied, and got to know the neighbours. Ahh the memories...she was fine. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.191.136.2 (talk) 16:21, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Certainly i've attended street parties. It seems the best opportunity for these to arrive include (among others)...Much of the street having children of reasonably similar ages, a keen interest in sports throughout the street, living in a cul-de-sac, having the people also around the same age (e.g. an apartment block of twentysomethings might have a party) things like this. ny156uk (talk) 19:44, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It happens. My cousin lives in a neighborhood where people throw neighborhood cocktail parties most weekends. The signal is to put out plastic pink flamingos on the lawn. When you show up to the party, you bring your own flamingo and put it out. It helps people feel welcome and know that there are other people there. Another friend lived in an apartment building full of 20-somethings in the 90s where a big group of people took turns cooking dinner for each other. 68.183.18.54 (talk) 21:49, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It seems to be a feature of New Urbanism. I can't find the article right now, but parties like this are common at some of the newer housing developments in Denver, CO. --Mdwyer (talk) 22:28, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

President and Vice President of the USA[edit]

If they both die in the plane crash at the same time, and the secretary of state is there with them and he or she dies too, then who becomes a new president of the USA? 77.105.37.177 (talk) 15:57, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

They're never in the same plane, for this reason. But more generally, see United States presidential line of succession. -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 16:00, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
In short, Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Condi wouldn't even be in line until after Pelosi and Harry Byrd. Paragon12321 (talk) 21:05, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I presume you mean Robert Byrd Paragon 12321 .Garda40 (talk) 21:33, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
There's only been one president (Reagan) who was involved in the entertainment industry, and no V-Ps to my knowledge, so it's an academic question as far as this page is concerned. -- JackofOz (talk) 21:48, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Jack has finally wigged out. (Must have been all that standing upside down/blood rushing to the head...) Clarityfiend (talk) 22:30, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
(Not sure what "wigged out" means.) That was my subtle way of saying it's a very odd question for the Entertainment Ref Desk and could more appropriately have been asked at Humanities or Miscellaneous. Unless people consider the Pres and VP to be figures of fun. Surely not. Well, not in general anyway; that only happens in certain cases.  :) -- JackofOz (talk) 22:47, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hm, does baseball count as entertainment? --jpgordon∇∆∇∆ 03:38, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Aaah. My apologies. Clarityfiend (talk) 04:35, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, Jack, there certainly have been a fair number of TV shows where the US presidential succession has figured in the story. The West Wing, Commander in Chief, and 24, for example. So it's not all that off-topic. --Anon, 05:32 UTC, December 18, 2007.
Enough that we have Fiction regarding United States presidential succession. --— Gadget850 (Ed) talk - 12:03, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
One could extend that rather specious argument indefinitely. It would mean that "For how many years did Homer Simpson work at the Springfield nuclear power plant?" is a valid question for the Science Ref Desk. The question was about the mechanics of presidential succession, squarely a legal and constitutional issue - not about movies or TV shows that have featured presidential succession in their plot lines. -- JackofOz (talk) 09:11, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Jack, I was posting lightheartedly. Let's not make a federal case of it, okay? --Anon, 17:17 UTC, December 18.
Fair enough, Anon. Though, to be fair, some indication it was light-hearted would have been of assistance. Not all of us are mind readers.  :) -- JackofOz (talk) 12:52, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
May the question by the OP not be construed as a plea "Not to put beans up our noses"? --62.47.147.187 (talk) 13:44, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lynyrd Skynyrd Information[edit]

I seriously need help finding this info. I am supposed to research a band (I chose Lynyrd Skynyrd) and find a few things. I already know the number of albums they have (~25), and I believe I have scoured the internet and found all the labels they have produced with. But there are still three things I critically need that just simply isn't anywhere on the internet.

"# of tours and where those tours have been led." (all I find is tickets for upcoming concerts)

"Locations/Studios that group/performed [sic] has recorded in." (Based on my failure in finding the other two, I won't even bother with this)

"All record sales info. Make a note if an album has gone platinum, etc." (I tried finding a list of their platinum albums, but no such lists seem to have been compiled)

Help, please.74.76.157.251 (talk) 22:18, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is a list of Skynyrd's gold/platinum awarded albums, from the RIAA. Someoneinmyheadbutit'snotme (talk) 00:52, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
[1] mentions the following:

1. tour opening for Strawberry Alarm Clock (no date)

2. 1973? Opening for the Who on their Quadrophenia tour

3. 1975 A wild US tour.

4. 1976 live album

5. 1977: band on tour when Gus van Sant was killed?

6. 1979 reunion show.

7. 1987 Tribute tour.

8. 1991 Tribute tour world tour.

That must be enough for notability. After all, one can't imagine anybody seriously challenging the notability of Lynyrd Skynyrd. It's more to provide a hurdle for inclusion for somebody's boyfriend's basement band. —Preceding unsigned comment added by SaundersW (talkcontribs) 12:19, 18 December 2007 (UTC) (reread question!)[reply]

From [2] we can add: The band also toured the U.K. in 1975 with Golden Earring and in 1976 with The Rolling Stones. SaundersW (talk) 12:30, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Have you tried looking through Wikipedia? For example, the first album's page (pronounced 'lĕh-'nérd 'skin-'nérd) clearly states that it was recorded on April 1973 at Studio One, Doraville, Georgia on the label Sounds of the South, MCA Records. -- kainaw 17:29, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I can't parse "where those tours have been led". What does that mean? Corvus cornixtalk 18:57, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the info so far. Especially the tours; I truly think I could not have found that on my own. I'm not sure why I couldn't find the Gold/Platinum stuff. After my first 4 hours of searching, I had come to the conclusion that the RIAA would be the place the look. So I then checked a website that I was confident belonged to the RIAA, but it wasn't updated since 2005 . . .

Anyways, in the way I normally do things (which is usually quite different from what other people do), I will choose to respond to all of the points I have a response to, not just the most recent or most significant (you may have noticed that I've already responded to something with neither of those qualities):

-By "where those tours have been led," I'm pretty sure he means the places the tours went. But I do see a problem with that question; I wouldn't be the person to know about music in entertainment (you guys have rock and hip-hop, I have sound test in Sonic Advance 3 and Final Fantasy VII), but I'm pretty sure that all these tours go to way too many places to be possible to list.

-It appears I have no choice but to look at every album's page for the locations. Daaarrrrrnnnnnn . . .

And that appears to be the only two points left. And I'm going to go get a screenname. Next time I post, I'll be Exp HP. Unless that's already taken, but that's never happened before.74.76.157.251 (talk) 04:28, 20 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
