Public post visibility on Facebook[edit]

Hi. If someone makes a public post on facebook, and their friends like/emoji that picture, do the friends of friends also see that picture in their feed? So, if X posted something, Y (who is friends with X) likes it, will Z (friends with Y, NOT friends with X) see that like in their feed? Sorry if this is confusing. It will vary with the settings X used when they posted, but yes, it is possible. For example, I sometimes see stuff in my timeline that refers to "Y likes/commented on this post..." It seems more common with comments than with likes, but they're there. Do you not have friends that like things? Matt Deres (talk) 21:32, 9 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Protection query[edit]

Okay, so the talk page is now protected for four days but the banner is not present, notwithstanding that the markup {{#ifeq:{{PROTECTIONLEVEL:edit}}|autoconfirmed|{{pp|small=yes}}}} is exactly the same as the last time the page was protected, when the banner did show. Why is this? On this desk (computing) the banner continues to show, as predicted here Special:Permalink/863214791#It's been October 9th for nearly half a day already. 86.152.81.16 (talk) 17:08, 9 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

From my experience, the reference desk can easily get quite outdated when viewing without being logged in. It always pays to WP:purge the wikimedia/server cache. This normally shows up in missing posts and replies, but I wouldn't be surprised if it shows up in the protection template not show. Note that per the talk page, this page actually had 2 banners for a time one from the header and one in this page, and the lock in the top. I'm not entirely sure how the 'if' on the header interacts with caching, but I wouldn't be completely surprised if it can get out of sync with what's show on this page meaning that even if the content from when the page is protected is show, the header may still be shown from before protection. The present state of play is that the talk page (with no banner visible) has the markup {{#ifeq:{{PROTECTIONLEVEL:edit}}|autoconfirmed|{{pp|small=yes}}}}, while the language desk has the markup {{#ifeq:{{PROTECTIONLEVEL:edit}}|autoconfirmed|}}{{Pp-move-indef}}. The banner shows, but it has no expiry date (because there is no expiry date). All the remaining desks have no markup and the banner shows with an expiry date. The code in the language desk was broken so it didn't work properly. It served no purpose even if not broken since as discussed in the talk page, or hinted at in my statement above the code is in the header and so applies to all desks. The code is necessary in the talk page, or alternatively adding the template each time as the talk page does not use the header applied to all desks. While the talk page is different from the desks, since talk pages are rarely protected I do feel it's better to have the full header instead of simply the lock and so have adjusted the code accordingly.
