Law enforcement in Canada[edit]

My ultimate goal is to get this article to featured status, but in the meantime, I know it can be better. I'm specifically looking for advice with any necessary copyedits; obvious issues with citations; any sort of original research; tone issues; or information that appears, in the eyes of a non-expert, to be missing, wanting, or otherwise unclear. The whole article probably needs review, but I think the sections on special constabularies and tiered policing are the most problematic. The section on organization can be mostly ignored since it's unfinished (at least at the time of submitting this request).

Comments from Z1720[edit]

I suggest bringing this to WP:GAN first, as this will allow an editor to give more thorough feedback on the article, as is considered a step towards featured article status. Here are some comments below to improve the article after a quick skim:
  • "The federal government maintains two police forces: the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP); the Canadian Forces Military Police (CFMP)." Needs a citation.
  • "These agencies are authorized by provincial governments and are not related to federally-authorized Railway Safety Act police forces." Needs a citation.
  • Second and third paragraphs in "Strength" need citations.
  • "Governance" Needs a citation.
  • "Special constabularies typically use the same rank structure as police services, while civil law enforcement agencies usually use role-based rank titles, opting for ranks like "supervisor" instead of "sergeant."" Needs a citation.
  • "Police officers and special constables are also usually equipped with collapsible batons and pepper spray." Needs a citaiton.
  • First paragraph of "Uniforms" needs a citation.
  • "In Quebec, police officers are not required to wear trouser piping." Needs a citation.
  • "In every other province, there are no consistent regulations for special constables and peace officers except that their uniforms be clearly distinct from those worn by police officers." Needs a citation.
  • "In every other province and in all three territories, including Alberta and Saskatchewan, special constabularies can use red and blue lights." Needs a citation.
  • "Civil law enforcement officers are otherwise restricted to amber lights." Needs a citation.
  • " "BROKEN TRUST: Indigenous People and the Thunder Bay Police Service"" Should be in sentence case (not all caps) per MOS:ALLCAPS
  • Ref 217 is not formatted correctly.
  • Ref 218 is just a bare url and needs more information.
  • Suggest archiving the sources using IABot

Hope this helps. Z1720 (talk) 14:26, 10 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It does indeed, thanks kindly for taking a look! I'll push this along to WP:GAN.

@ReactionEquipment: It has been over a month since the last comment. Can this be closed, or are you still looking for comments? Z1720 (talk) 00:12, 26 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

still hoping for comments, but this can be closed. it'll be a while before I can implement the bulk of your recommendations so trying to get more and clogging up review space in the meantime is probably unfair of me ReactionEquipment (talk) 05:39, 26 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
