Everyone is cordially invited to attend a hike near Fallbrook, California (weather permitting). The hike will allow an opportunity to take photographs of an area normally closed to the public. This should be the 37th Wikipedia meetup in San Diego County. Due to illness of hosting Wikimedian, event has been cancelled. Apologies for the late notification.

Meetup details[edit]

*Date: Sunday January 20, 2019

A meetup (weather permitting), held in coordination with the Railroad Bronies, focused on taking photographs for upload onto Wikimedia Commons within Temecula Canyon. This will include part of the historical route of the California Southern Railroad. The hike will be lead by a docent of the reserve, which is part of San Diego State University. Public access to the reserve is by permission only

The hike will be 6.5 miles (to the turnaround point and back) and will include elevation gains and losses of 1,400 feet. Those attending are encouraged to dress accordingly, and bring supplies to sustain them over several hours. The hike will begin at 8 AM, and it is expected to last several hours.

Getting there[edit]

The start location will be different from that of the May 2018 event, and will start southern end of the reserve at the South Field Station. From San Diego, take Interstate 15 north and exit Mission Road. From Los Angeles take Interstate 15 south and exit Mission Road. It should take about half an hour, upon leaving the freeway to travel to the Field Station, which will include driving on a dirt road. Directions to the South Field Station Entrance: 1. Take the Mission Road exit on I-15 and follow Mission Road west toward Fallbrook. Drive 1.6 miles to Willow Glen Road and turn right. 2. After 2.2 miles, Willow Glen Road intersects with Stage Coach Lane and turns into a dirt road, virtually at the River. 3. Turn right (your only option) onto Stage Coach Lane and drive 1.7 miles to the locked gate of the Reserve. The gate will be opened for tour participants, who will park in a dirt parking lot at the entrance to the citrus grove, about a half mile past the gate. NOTES:  You MUST go down WILLOW GLEN ROAD to get to the reserve. Very often GPS will send you in a wrong direction.  The dirt road that parallels the river is beautiful but winding and slow driving.  We start promptly at 8:00. Please allow 25 minutes to drive from the 15 Freeway / Mission Road off-ramp to the Reserve trailhead
