Have you ever Google-searched an influential female scientist and found that they didn’t have a Wikipedia page, or that they did but it was super short and/or out of date? Did you know that less than 18% of Wikipedia’s articles on people (including scientists) are about women? Did you know that Donna Strickland didn’t have a Wikipedia page until she won this year’s Nobel Prize in Physics because she wasn’t “notable” enough beforehand? Did you know that you, yes YOU, could help fix that?

Anyone can edit Wikipedia and it’s easy to learn. Saturday December 8, CSHL WiSE, in collaboration with CSHL’s Library and Archives, and with support from Wikimedia NYC, will teach anyone from the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory link community and help them create and/or improve the Wikipedia articles of female scientists.

Our #WomenInSTEM Wikipedia edit-a-thon will be held Saturday December 8, from 10am-1pm at the CSHL Library. Breakfast will be provided. All CSHL-ers are welcome to attend, but please RSVP through this link.
