Wikimedia New York City invites you to attend its monthly WikiWednesday Salon on Wednesday, March 18 from 7:00 pm - 9:00 PM. This month, as part of Wikimedia NYC's commitment to the well-being of members, we will hold WikiWednesday online via Zoom. Most, if not all, in-person Wikimedia meetups are canceled this month, but you can join us for our first ever wholly online WikiWednesday meeting! No experience of absolutely anything is necessary. All are welcome!

All attendees are subject to Wikimedia NYC's Code of Conduct.

How to connect via Zoom[edit]

If you have not used Zoom before, you will be prompted to download its launcher program. It works on PC, Mac, and Linux. If necessary, you can also connect through Zoom's iOS or Android app, which you can find on the zoom.us website. As a last resort, you can also dial in by phone, calling (646)876-9923 and enter the meeting ID [this meeting has ended/zoom info removed]. Please keep in mind that if you dial in by phone you will be able to listen, but will miss all visuals.

I would like to support this idea. No. This meeting was not recorded. We tend to err on the side of privacy. We don't have any sort of official policy on the matter (we don't run many online events), but I would be surprised if we were to start recording them other than, say, when there's a guest speaker (and in such cases, there would be ample warning to attendees). suggestion re agenda
- I would like to suggest that individual editors should be allowed to add items to the agenda, and to request that someone else should address those topics, i.e. rather than the editor who is making the actual suggestion. the reason for this is that editors may have certain topics that they would like to see discussed, but they may simply want to receive the information from one of the moderators of the event, rather than presenting that topic themselves.--Sm8900 (talk) 03:24, 19 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  - I know that I have on several occasions encourages people to ask questions or propose workshops/demonstrations/discussions based on what they want to learn (i.e. for someone else to execute). question re meeting notice.
- I have been looking at various noticeboards for Wikipedia meetups, and I have not seen the NYC Meetup for Wednesday, MArch 18, 2020, listed anywhere. below are some of the pages that I looked at. is it possible to make sure that any such meetup are always posted on any relevant noticeboards or pages? I would highly recommend that. thanks.

Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC is the best place to find information about upcoming events. If you add your name to this list, you'll get talk page messages about the larger events and WikiWednesdays. There are also sometimes geonotices. There are an awful lot of pages where this sort of thing can be listed/linked from, and we'll inevitably miss some. Once everyone got settled (and muted themseslves) I thought the meeting went very well. Of course Zoom (or any similar software) won't have the "free-and-easy" give-and-take that occurs with in-person meetings. But I felt it went very smoothly and successfully. The virtual meeting with so many people using video felt productive and personal. With practice, we will get better. UPDATE: Using a mobile device, it was difficult for me to broswe each link submitted via chat and sign into the course page. I agree. I would really like to suggest that all future meetings should be transmitted or delivered via ZOOM, even if people also attend it in person. makes it much easier for many editors to hear what is being discussed. thanks!! --Sm8900 (talk) 22:08, 19 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
