Details[edit]

Join us for the second Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon in partnership with the Black Archives of Mid-America (BAMA). We will be adding historic Black Kansas Citians to Wikipedia, using names curated by Dr. Carmaletta Williams, Executive Director of the Black Archives of Mid-America, as well as information from the award-winning 2021 KC Black History publication created in partnership with BAMA, the Local Investment Commission (LINC), and the Kansas City Public Library. Wikipedia training will be provided. We recommend that participants create Wikipedia accounts before the event begins through this link.[[1]] There will be training provided for new editors, as well as space for questions. The event will be virtual with a hub for participation at The Black Archives of Mid-America for participants who need access to wifi and laptops.

No Wikipedia experience necessary.To participate you don’t need specialized knowledge of these topics or of Wikipedia.

Note: Editors must have accounts that "autoconfirmed" (four days old and have made more than ten edits) in order to create a page. During the edit-a-thon, editors brandnew to Wikipedia are encouraged to expand existing articles to develop Wikipedia know-how. Those interested in working on a new article for Wikipedia can prepare the article in a sandbox draft space.
